Part 4

Ishita and Raman, both spent a very restless night. Ishita worried over how to resolve this new issue that cropped up between her and Raman. Raman was worried about Mani. In the morning when Ishita woke up she saw Raman in a restless slumber. She decided that she has to talk to him again. This is just not done. How can he even be jealous of Mani. He was such a good friend. After preparing the breakfast when she entered her room and saw Raman dressing up she thought it was the time for another round of confrontation. She thought of taking a serious and confident tone. She closed the door to their room and went to stand behind him.

"Raman?"

"Hmm..." Raman replied while knotting his tie.

"Are you jealous of Mani?"

Raman stilled at this. He looked at her through the mirror where.

"What do you mean?"

"What do I mean? I mean do you feel jealous because of Mani?"

"Why should I?"

"Then why are you acting like this?"

"Like what?"

"So sadu. You have been snapping at people, shouting and all that... I just want to know whats wrong?"

"My shouting and being upset means that it has something to do with you? Don't you think that you give yourself an awful lot of importance? Who are you anyway? Why do you care so much about me so suddenly?" Raman asks her. Jhansi ki Rani thinks that I will just go out on a limb and tell her that I don't like Mani. And then she will again convince me about how good her Mani is etc. etc. I'd rather not listen to all that. She's never said anything good about me even once. I haven't either but I never praise another woman before her like she praises that nagmani.

"What do you mean who am I? Why will I not be worried? You being upset might hurt Ruhi..."

"If you're just worried about Ruhi getting hurt then don't worry. I won't let any stress I face affect my daughter. I know how to treat her."

"But..."

"But what? I don't know what you're trying to achieve here. Whatever it is, I have other things to do. I am getting late for the office."

Ishita holds his hand before he can leave. "Raman please. Just answer my question."

"Which question?"

"You don't like Mani?"

Raman closes his eyes in frustration. "No."

"But why? He is such a..."

"I don't need another lecture on how good a friend and human being that Mani is. I am tired of it. I know you two are catching up, but I just don't like the amount of time that you're catching up is taking. I don't like the way that he just pops up everywhere."

"I just don't get it. Why should our friendship bother you?"

"I can't believe that you're even asking me that question. Are you blind? Oh, why am I even asking you this? You are a certified idiot."

"I still don't get it. What do you even think is going on between us? He is a wellwisher. He means well. He's harmless..."

This made Raman give out a sarcastic laugh. "Harmless, is he?"

Ishita couldn't understand Raman's behaviour. "Why are you saying it like that?"

"I've seen such a harmless well wishing friend spend time with my wife before Ishita. And it didn't really end well for me. A 6 year marriage ended in a bitter divorce with an added consequence of me losing my son."

Ishita gasped at this. "How can you even say this? You think I am like Shagun? You think I will cheat on you? With Mani?"

"No, Ishita. The sad part is I know you are nothing like Shagun. She left me for a richer man, a luxurious life. But honestly, tell me... if you had the chance to have a more fulfilling life... where you had it all... you know, marriage, love and kids... would you take it? Would you leave your old life behind?"

Ishita was stunned. "I... Raman..."

"What Ishita? No answer?" Raman gave her a smirk at that. "See you in the evening... I am late for a meeting."

it beats me. seriously, raman is so jealous right now that he cant see beyond his past . i dont blame him but at least ishita is trying to clear his misconceptions no?
