OS/SS: Is it just 'Jealousy'? (Part 7 posted) - Page 4

Chores kept Ishita busy until late night. Everybody had already had their dinner and were off to their respective rooms to retire for the night. Even Raman. Now that Mummyji had brought it to her notice, she realized that he was avoiding her. Does my friendship with Mani offend him soo much. But we're just good friends. There is nothing wrong in that, is there?

Ishita was confused. She had decided that she would talk to him and once this wedding was done with she could start spending time with him again. But all said and done she had no idea how to start this conversation with him or even what to say. She decided to wing it once she is in their room, alone with him.

When she entered their room at around 12.30 a.m. she could see that Raman was still awake. He was working. His face seemed grim. She gathered all her courage to speak.

*cough* "uhm... Raman?"

He looked at her but did not say anything. He went back to his laptop. She kept staring at him.

*cough* "uhm..."

Still no response from Raman.

*cough*

"I know your no doctor just a silly dentist, but everybody knows what to do when they have cough. At least all grown ups and sensible people do..."

Ishita flared up at this. "Excuse me I don't have a cough, and even if I do I know the remedy. I wanted to talk to you."

"Why? The nagmani left the nagin alone?"

"What?! Sometimes you just don't make sense and then you say that I have episodes of madness."

"Is this what you want to talk about?"

"No..."

"Then what are you waiting for? The panditji to come and give you a muhurat? I don't have much time. I am busy."

"You are always busy."

"Yes, now the pot will call the kettle black." Raman mumbles.

"What?"

"Nothing that will go into your tiny brain. Sigh... what do you want, Ishita?"

"I..." Ishita fumbles.

"Are you going to speak or just stare at me like that?"

"That... I mean... you... I mean... are you upset with me?"

Raman stills at this question. "Why do you ask?"

"Nothing. Its just that you've been a little offbeat lately."

"Oh, so finally my mahaan patni noticed me." Raman thinks to himself. To Ishita he says "Why do you feel that I am offbeat and even if I am why would it have anything to do with you?"

"Oh yes, why do I forget. You are Ravan Kumar. You be upset at anything. I'm the fool here thinking about why you're upset..."

"Truly. You are a big fool."

Ishita thought that he was belittling her again. "Please Raman, I am not in the mood for your silly taunts now. I am tired and I need rest. There is no use speaking with you. Good night."

Raman could not let this go. This time it was not a taunt he was serious and even Ishita understood it from his tome. "No, Ishita. You are an idiot. I just hope you realize in time. You don't see things the way I do. You haven't been through what I've been through. You are just so nave sometimes I feel like I need to shock you so that your head comes back to its right place. But yeah, whatever... who am I to tell you all of this? Ravan kumar, right? Go to sleep. Dream of your Raj kumar. Just leave me alone. Good night."

With that Raman shut down his laptop, covered himself with the duet and went to sleep. "Oh and one more thing, Ishita, don't forget to turn off the lights."

Ishita didn't know what just happened. She was supposed to find out what was troubling him. How did they end up fighting? Its like they cannot have even one decent conversation with each other. They always fight. And why was he calling her an idiot now? She was clueless as to how to deal with him.
