Lol!
But having two wives is illegal. The children from the second "wife" won't be considered legal.
The second one's nothing more than a mistress and kids from her are bas*****.

In a legal sense. yes.
In a spiritual sense, no. Actually, I don't want to assume because I don't know much about Hinduism. Can a Hindu man have two wives? In a religious/spiritual sense, it must have been allowed at some point right? Otherwise Emperor Ashoka would've been illegitimate.

Emperor Ashoka was an emperor. Nobody allows him. He allows himself!
No, neither in Hinduism nor legally (in India) is it allowed for a man (or a woman) to have two partners.
That's why Mohini isn't a Bajwa. Remember?

Our religion does not support polygamy. But Kings used to have several wives. They were never wife and mistress. The one he married was his wife. The one who he slept with without proper marriage was his mistress. The distinction was quite simple. But in the religious sense it is not allowed.

In Mahabharata the men had many wives and no one had a problem with it. But most of the marriage alliances were of political nature.

Even the history states that many of the marriages were political alliances and were mostly performed to continue the lineage.

It is legal for Muslims.
But you're right. It's not for Hindus and that's why Mohini isn't a wife. Chi. Harjeet basically acknowledges her as a mistress by not divorcing Amrit.

So a religious ceremony does not count as marriage if the man is already legally married? I doubt any of the marriages in Gaguwal are legal to begin with. I've never seen them registering their marriages 🤣

I mean that his mother was his father's second wife amongst many but he was considered legitimate. But I'm not even sure if they were Hindus or Jains so I can't compare.

It doesn't really matter. What matters is that they belonged to a royal family. It was considered okay to have multiple wives for the royal families.
