In Hinduism marriage is for keeps. It's relationship for your next seven births. There's no room for divorce.
But obviously the government allows it for sanity sake. By getting a divorce at any court of law one can be irrevocably divorced. Legally. Not according to religion.
As far as RajPreet getting a divorce, it's impossible. Newly married couples (within one year of marriage) cannot even apply for divorce.

In case of extreme cases like abuse, impotency, mental/ physical disorders, extra marital affair etc. But not for divorce based on mutual consent.

Wow Harsha I didn't know that. But at what point is it that you are irreversibly married? Because even filling someone's mang is marriage according to Hindi soaps.

The Panchayat is obviously illiterate. But they all are Bade Bajurg who are supposed to be very very very smart and supposedly have all the required knowledge and experiences..

They are irreversibly married after the 7 pheras.

Hi guys,
I am sorry, I was wrong about certain things I mentioned. I did a mini research and I have come to the following conclusions:

Anything that can be proved in a court of law is legal. A Hindu wedding is considered complete and irreversible when the couple takes the 7 pheras. If this can be proved either by eyewitnesses or authentic photographs, then the marriage is legal. RajPreet's first wedding would have been legal if both of them had got their marriage registered.
Registration is a sure shot way of making marriages legal, although unregistered marriages aren't illegal.
My parents married with all the rituals and traditions, but back then, there was no need for them to register their marriage.
They got it done very recently, but even according to registration documents their date of marriage is when they actually got married. When they completed their 7 pheras.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. My theory is based on my mini research, logic and personal experience.
So any discrepancy is regretted.

Although I respect our culture and I am proud of being a Hindu I really don't subscribe to the school of thought that marriage becomes legal when the seven pheras are complete. For me a marriage is legal only when registered.
But I do believe that a marriage is for keeps. There is no room for divorce except in extreme cases. It is a relationship for this whole life. I don't know about seven births.
