OK, this movie was very good. Aamir, Madhavan, Sharman and the Silencer guy played their parts really well. Kareena gave a lack lustre performance as usual. Boman Irani was good too. But what is this Chetan Bhagat controversy? I know, that the movie was based on his book. But what did he do?

Aamir turned out to be a scientist with more than 500 patents on his name, do you really think that his college life did justice to his character?😆
Movie was so full of masala, nothing else.

Yes, certainly. If your really passionate about a particular subject, all you need to do is concentrate and learn what you can in class. Don't get pressurized by external factors and take it easy. Whenever you studying, concentrate and you will see you learnt everything in 2 hours or so. Besides, he was a prodigy, wasn't he?

I loved the movie. May be because I could relate to it in many different levels. The movie might be a "masala flick" for many but at least it gave out a good message. 😊 Some things are exaggerated but you need a bit of that in a movie for entertainment's sake. Imagine if action scenes in movies were as simple as the fights that happen real life. 🥱

The scene where the Professor asks " what is a machine" and then he yells at Aamir for not giving the definition that is in the book is a perfect example. 😕 Why do we rely so much on memorization? Why not actually learn things, figure things out on our own, let students look at thing through their own perspective?

The thing about career choice was also an important subject. I hate how the article said

The film establishes that unless you are a naturally gifted scientific genius like Ranchordas Chanchad, there's no point wasting time with your books. Then you're better off singing songs or becoming a wildlife photographer. As if becoming a 'wildlife photographer' is a sweet extracurricular hobby that doesn't require hard work and determination and an equal amount of sadhna.

😕 😕 😕 That was not the point. The point is by the time most of us enter college we have somewhat idea of what we want. Even when we are PASSIONATE about something else our parents force us to choose a path like Medicine or engineering . I am a med student and If I could have my own way I would like to study poli sci instead of Bio. Better yet I would rather go to an art school, or pick interior designing as my career. But my parents would never ever ever accept it. Decorating houses over saving lives?? 🤢 Till date I haven't even had the guts to tell my mom that I like interior designing.

My sister loves business and accounting. My parents told her if she doesn't go to med school she might not as well go to school. My sister has even begged them saying "I don't care about medicine, even if I go through med school I would be a horrible doctor" It didnt work. My brother loves computer. If he had the chance he would like to make computer/ video games etc. Again he has to become either a doctor or a lawyer.

This was mentioned for mere seconds in 3 Idiots. Our parents (at least mine) care way too much about the society. Half of the torture happens because the parents want to hear compliments and praises from people like "Mr. Kapoor". I get grilled about such stuff every single day. I got grilled just 3 days ago, my mom gave me the silent treatment for 2 days.

😕

awwww perfangel!!! 🤗

btw, do i know you? their was a user-name similar to yours on Rakhi ka swaymar forum, are you the same girl or someone different?!

But whatever you wrote, its so very sad. Why dont parents realize that this world cant run by only doctors and lawyers..you need all type of people, all types of profession in order for this world to run! You need nurses to assist the doctors, and they are just as important as them. But no, if you tell your parent you want to be a nurse they would turn around and say ''Why not a doctor''. Look down on low profession jobs, but these low profession jobs we rely more on then most of the high paid jobs!...i mean, a bus driver, or a driver of any sort is more important in your daily life than a lawyer or a doctor is. How often do you pay them a visit? God forbid, you never want to pay a doctor a visit coz nobody likes being sick, and same applies with lawyers...you want your life to run smoothly, not messed up by court visits and lawyers etc . Drivers on the other hand, are a very important part of your life since they take you to your destination, your kids to school, you to your work etc etc...but are they valued? nope.

I am glad that my parents have never pressurized me into anything...and the only thing they demand from me is to do whatever my job is/study is with full passion, its your chance to make a better standard of life for yourself and passion is what makes a person genius. Like what Einstein said, he is not a genius just passionate about science and sticks to his problems longer than us ordinary people to find the solution.

Make your parents watch three idiots, then talk to them after that 😆....tell them, it you they should care the most about. Your passion they should encourage, not what the neighbors are passionate about. If you enjoy what your doing, it no longer becomes a job, it becomes a hobby that you just want more and more of and when your job becomes your hobby - you excel at it.

I know this guy who was forced to study engineering coz his parents forced him to...he went on to do phD, but as soon as his studies was over and he got the doctorate title added to his name like his parents desired he left home and went to work abroad. His parents always thought he was working as some sorta engineer until he returned home one day and opened his own restaurant ( he was actually studying hospitality abroad)...his parents were frustrated and enraged ...and told him to rent a room somewhere else since they were too ashamed of having a doctorate son running a take-away...what would the society think? the guy just turned round and said..all my life ive been thinking about the society and not doing what i love doing. I am engineer for you not for myself...food is my passion and i would do what i want to do. He continued on his business, and it has been such a success that he has now opened 7 chains of take-aways....named chapati 1, all the way down to chapati 7. Anyone in Glasgow, would be well aware of his take-away...its such a success.,,Baz you heard of it? ....now looking at his son's success and his passion for food, his parents have accepted him now and at this moment of life, he cant be any happier.

That guy is my dad's best friend....so i guess thats why my parents have never pressurized me into anything, and only tellin us to follow our passion and excel at it!

Good luck!

I agree with PerfAngel and TNF. 3 Idiots in now way disrespects knowledge and education. In no way shape or form does the movie state that hardwork and dedication have no importance, or that slacking and goofing is the way to go.

There is a problem with our education system in India. It is a fact that parents have a myopic vision that doctor and engineer are the only two suitable careers. It is a fact that students are made to learn things by rote, to memorize, to parrot, to mimic but never really learn. It is a fact that students are forced to conform to narrow rules set up without realizing that every student is different.

The movie tries to make people aware of the problem in our education system and make it better. There are a lot more career choices and children should be encouraged to pursue what they will enjoy and succeed in. Success and happiness is not measured by paychecks or degrees, but how satisfied one is with life. It teaches that real learning means understanding and absorbing. As illustrated in Chatur's speech a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and knowing without understanding is quite worthless. Finally there are students like Joy Lobo or Rancho who may not be the conformists but they are no less brilliant. They have a hands on creative learning style and a good education system accommodates that creativity. There are students like Raju who cannot cope under the type of make or break pressure the system creates. We could do well with a system that accommodates for second chances and the little things in life.

In fact the message of 3 Idiots about education, success and life is no different from Randy Pausch's 'The Last Lecture: Really achieving your childhood dreams'. Perhaps some parents and teachers will find the message more palatable coming from an accomplished Carnegie Melon professor of Computer Science rather than a song and dance movie.

All those who contributed to Box office collection of over Rs.300 crores in just 16-19 days, have erred in liking the movie for its subtle messages and those few who have seen and criticize, have true acumen to refine/define the education system.😆

On similar lines...how can a 'jaadu ki jhappi' and 'Gandhigiri' really work😛. Loads of contradictions in all these hit movies😉

Aamir and Publicity stunts go hand in had...no doubts that he is a good actor....but since bechara does one film a year ....he is always Publicity ka bhoookaa......talking bout the film and Book similarities Raju Hirani has completely changed the characters...they not the exact copy as such just an inspiration .....It seems Raju's character is exactly the one as it appears in Chetans book rest all is Hirani's khayali pulav....

i wont say Chetan also is fully right ....3 Idiots Hit hui isliye bhaaga chala aaya....where was he hiding When HELLO was made....and it Flopped pathetically

so to conclude every body is publicity ke bhukhee....Chetan also Aamir....😃
