Thank you for this long lovely comment... I would reply in detail...can't wait to do so but my computer is currently out of order and I hate typing from phone... So please do forgive my lateness.

Sakura dearie,
No need to ask for forgiveness, please take your time. Typing from phone is a pain - there are times when even having to send simple texts exasperates me😭

Wow what an amazing OS on Durga prasad...makes me hate him even more than i did in Icarus!!

U have shown his true nature and his motivations behind his actions in Icarus and it makes him all the more petty and hateful...it's a wonder that Annapurna tolerated such a man all her life...and a pity tht when it had come to making a choice tht day...she chose her slimy snail of a husband over her son...tho he wasn't her blood I'm sure she loved him all the same

Simply superb and now looking forward to Love

My Dearest Saku,

I gave a short revert yesterday night before turning in, about how much I loved the superb psychological insights in this OS. It was just amazing, dear, done with so much finesse. As you know, I love the layered, in depth detailing of characters, and this one was outstanding in that respect.

Durga Prasad was as vilely toady as Lakshya has been in the past 🤢---and you've described him very well, I must say. As a snail, crawly and slimy and slithering, but portraying a hard, shiny, occasionally even a glittering shell on the exterior.

So here we have a man who is all pomp and pageantry, highly regarded by many because of the impressive lineage he comes from, which aura he has somehow managed to wrap around himself. With bombast and a carefully, assiduously cultivated image, not with genuine substance. You described that so well---his innate nature as a shallow, bullying persona, who is in love with power, prestige and glory. But like all bullies, innately terrified of anyone with actual spirit, and genuine goodness---even though they may be his own flesh and blood, as Sanskaar was in this case.

His twisted rationale and thoughts showed the essential hollowness of this supposed "great" man. He feels that making Annapurna betray the son after her own heart, is a just revenge on her for bringing in Sanskaar to their home. It was so ironic--Annapurna genuinely loved Sanskaar with all her heart, considered him her own son, despite not being his mother by blood. He was, after all, born to her husband and another woman with whom he had had a brief, sordid liaison. But far from feeling any hatred for the baby, she lavished Sanskaar with loving care and maternal affection.

But Durga Prasad, despite being Sanskaar's father by blood, hated and reviled him. Felt that it was a punishment to be considered his father, felt that it was an insult to be praised about how Great his son was. Truly, a shallow, despicable man! And of all the foolish, insecure, evil thoughts a person could have---he feels Annapurna was like Gandhari in this action---wanting to claim a share in her husband's sins, punishing him for this infidelity, as well as supposedly punishing herself for being unable to bear him children! (I wonder why Durga Prasad never abandoned this crazy idea once they had Lakshya...but I suspect he would be shallow enough, to anyway blame Annapurna for doing the right thing by Sanskaar.) What a revolting man!

If Durga Prasad's essentially vile nature was explored with stunning detail; Annapurna's layered character, with all its mysterious edges and shades, came through beautifully as well. We've got this interest in common in exploring the secondary/ supporting characters in the serial. SwaSan being the main bond of interest of course, but Annapurna, Durga Prasad, Ragini and Ram Prasad all hold a special allure...even I dare say, Sujata. I love the way you've handled these characters in various tales of yours, as I've tried to do in my way in my Fics.

(As an aside, not relevant to this tale, I just want to say that Yashodhara, your creation of course, not borrowed from the serial canon, is one of my all time favorite characters. I LOVE her, such a fascinating, bewitching persona she is...holds me in thrall every time I read SQ/ FK). 👏 👏 🤗 🤗

Coming back to Annapurna in this piece. I didn't get the feeling she was trying to play Gandhari's role at all. She was motivated to do the right thing for the baby, who was possibly orphaned? You've not mentioned what happened to Sanskaar's birth mother, or did I miss that?

Another motivating factor, of course, was the fact that Annapurna genuinely wanted to safeguard Durga Prasad's honor and good name from being besmirched. That callous, arrogant man thinks his wife has done something for which she should feel ashamed, owes him an apology. Its the other way around---he owes her a debt of gratitude and a lifetime of redeeming himself---and of course to his son too---but who would explain that to such a brainless, ego filled man?

I liked how you put it, that Annapurna was so dedicated to the altar of her husband's honor and glory; that she became part of his shell protecting his essentially slippery, unadmirable innate nature. Durga Prasad took a lot of satisfaction breaking her, and Sanskaar; but insisting she betray the son after her own heart, didn't he?

In Durga's twisted logic, this was punishment to both mother and son!

And finally Sanskaar---what a lovely insight into his nature as well. Despite being son by blood to Durga, he is living proof that heredity only goes so far. One's choices, heart and conscience determine one's character and destiny, and where Durga Prasad epitomizes fool's gold; Sanskaar is made of the genuine metal!

I loved how Durga expected to see him defeated, disappointed and broken; but although Sanskaar was bound and physically hurt, his eyes held fury and a determination to strike back at this devil whom he had once considered his father. Durga was so sadistic, he wanted to wound Sanskaar in the worst manner possible, with a revelation calculated to bring him to his knees. He relished revealing Annapurna's role in switching the files, and in bringing his henchmen to Kavita's hideout didn't he. And worst of all, he painted Annapurna in his own colors---making it out as if she had intended to strike at Sanskaar all along---almost treating him as a fattened, sacrificial lamb on whom she could exact the ultimate revenge later!

Sanskaar of course felt tremendously wounded by this sordid allegation, at Durga's gleeful revelation that Annapurna was not his birth mother at all. But there was, still, that grain of faith hi his mind, that a person so warm and loving, could never contain so much poison within herself. Sanskaar could not forgive Annapurna then, for having betrayed him; for having chosen Durga's honor over his own feelings and values, in a foolishly vain attempt to keep their family together. But I don't think he ever really felt that Annapurna had faked all the love she lavished on him till then.

I loved that snippet of the mother--son bond at the end, Saku. It was so poignant, so moving. You know that I love exploring the facets of the Annapurna--Sanskaar equation; and this one was beautifully done. How Sanskaar feels warm and comforted in her embrace; he is almost fainting, and is too tired to feel betrayed or angry. He knows that once he wakes, he would not longer be able to consider her as his mother; the enormity of what she did will force him to abhor her, be furious with her. But till then, for a few wonderful moments of suspended animation, he was still her cherished son, and craved her warm, secure embrace. And so did Annapurna---holding her first son, dearer to her, in fact, that the one she bore.

👏 👏 Wonderful my dear. This equation was what brought tears to my eyes in Icarus, and you've just reiterated that in Calypso. Your spin offs, BTW, are made of as sterling stuff as the Fics themselves. 🤗

Lots of Love,

---Viji

Viji my dearest,

The computer rose from its ashes magnificently and now is in full working order. So here I am, replying to your lovely comment in the lengthy detailed way I would like😊

I'm so glad you liked the layered stuff I tried to portray in Calypso, as I see it, you're a master in presenting layered secondary characters with solid backstories (Take the elements series for example) So when you say this one's outstanding I just feel so humbly proud.
Now you see where Lakshya was coming from. Here I wanted to explore that

slightly repulsive side of evil, where one simply dons the robes of darkness to hide his own inner ugliness. Durga Prasad is that, a coward in a mask of a brave man, who fears anyone with more power than he himself commands. That kind of people do the most terrible deeds with less or no repentance at all.

Annapurna's course of action here I believe requires a great deal of strength, she was a great woman, someone a shallow character like Durga would not understand. Instead he saw her as his own twisted female version. I agree when you say she was not being Gandaari at all, instead her own wise and just self, but Durga a man blinded by his own emptiness would not see that now, would he? Instead he would soothe himself thinking she is no different from him and is involved in a lowly game of blame and revenge, trying to show his how she is the one with power..etc.

As for Sanskar's both parents, Biological one and the mother of his heart, I guess that part comes from our shared belief on blood can do a little in forming a man's character. There're things that matter more, love I think the most important of all.

Coming to Sanskar I guess this is the only place where Durga was right about Annapurna. She did leave her impact on Sanskar making him far greater man than his blood would have suggested. Instead of owing that to her, Durga felt angered by the fact though. I agree there, I don't think Sanskar ever thought of Annapurna in the colors Durga tried to paint her in, but he was rather hurt by the fact that the woman who made him the strong man he is, choose to stand by the side of a repulsively weak man like Durga.

I do have a very soft corner for parents and their bond with children, I tried to give that warmth for Annapurna and Sanskar here, it made me tremendously happy to know you loved that moment at the end. Isn't it so for everyone, that when we are too tired to fight we simply retreat to our home right?

Oh, you feel the spin offs are as good as the fics? That's some great burden you put on my shoulders dear, I will try to live up to that reputation in the last of calypso and through the spells.
Thanks again and a lot of 🤗
loads of love,
Saku

The desire to win is born in most of us. The will to win is a matter of training. The manner of winning is a matter of honour - Margaret Thacher.

And it is in the matter of honour that DP failed - spectacularly.

Your description of him as a "crawling, squashy, weak snail hidden within its shell" - was so apt. (though it initially evokes a creepy slimy feeling - if that was your intention - well you have succeeded ).
What surprised me was how could a snail hide so much venom (till I googled - there is group of predatory sea snails which are quite venomous )

He is truly venomous - hates Sanskaar because he reminds him of his infidelity, harbours a grudge against Annapurna for bringing Sanskaar into his life, their family and society, the viciousness with which he uses her to break both Sanskaar and Annapurna. (especially when he twists Annapurna's reasons for why she switched the files - portraying her as a woman who was only biding her time to extract revenge - he did hope that it would destroy Sanskaar!)
But Sanskaar did not break, did he - he could be Durga Prasad's son, but somewhere Annapurna's nurturing rendered him different - the ending was poignant - Sanskaar aware of her betrayal yet wanting to hold on to his memory of her being his mother.

All in all, a wonderful backstory - this lends all the more credence to Durga Prasad's actions - after all a man who could disown his blood, use his wife to betray his son, could easily send a 'stranger' to the gallows to save his son - effortlessly.👏

Nyna dear🤗🤗🤗
Ah yeah, you caught it right, that is why the shot was named Honor, that is where DP fails, but Annapurna and her soul son succeeds magnificently.
I did intend to capture a repulsive side to the brutal evilness which I would portray later in the shot, so thanks for finding the snails disgusting. On a different note however I don't find snails much disgusting, it is the slugs that I loathe. Oh dear, you Googled on snails? I hope it was no trouble, but yes I saw it on National Geographic once, there are poisonous snails. Forgive me and my obsession with wild😳
Cowards usually runs from their mistakes and any reminders of failures, he is doing the same and hates Annapurna for not letting him run free. His hatred his misplaced, and his revenge is twisted. As you can see he was not much successful there either.
Oh no, he did not break. Annapurna had made him of much harder stuff. He would never have imagined her to betray him and would want to deny that truth and its bitterness as long as possible.
True. Now it makes more sense I guess. That was the whole purpose of Calypso. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks a lot.

Glad you enjoyed honor dear and saw Durga as a snail. The purpose of this shot was to show how Annapurna was more a mother than Durga was ever a father to Sanskar and what made them do what they did in Icarus.
I did try to give a just insight in to everyone and hope you felt the emotions I tried to convey here. Ah yes, love is indeed on Casper and SK, but not just about them, there are some others involved too. I will post as soon as I can.

Hey Sanya,
I'm glad you think the portrayal on their thoughts are superb my dear it is nice to know you felt for them.
Yes, Durga is indeed hate worthy here. Oh, you want to know how he dealt with the betrayal he had to face at the end of Icarus? Well honestly when I wrote Icarus I thought the knowledge of what awaits Lakshya whom he tried to desperately to defend is enough punishment for the man. But if you do want to read more about him, I will try to do something on him after the trial. Let's see...
love,
Sakura
