I'm late of course but you hopefully know why so will forgive me? This is my comment on Jealousy.

👏👏 I loved how you once more sketched Ragini's inner psyche so wonderfully, delving in those depraved depths with your trademark punchy style. Firstly, the very beginning was fantastically described. The whole analogy of evil not being as sudden as a glass smashing but the gradual onset of darkness as it drains away the light I really found so effective. Then Ragini- this is the Ragini we so needed on the show and never got. This is the Ragini some of us try to grapple with in our fictions and you always do it very well indeed! The gradual hold evil has taken of her made so much sense (without still being justifiable of course) when seen through the childhood memories, the poisoning by other influences and of course the real driver behind it all- a deep and poisonous jealousy born of insecurity! I so see Ragini like this- I am trying to hard to depict this in Dark Knight too and serious kudos to you here for having managed it so adroitly. Also loved how you played the Lakshya angle- the obsession with him and then her actual unwilling realisation that he idol does have feet of clay but she is now too far on that path to just turn back. And voila we have the concealment here of a Calypso! Fantastic read Saku, will read and comment on the next one soon! Love you xoxo

My dearest Shru,
We are always late on each other's stuff and often waste our breath apologizing, you don't have to do that dear, you came, read and enjoyed, that's enough for me😳🤗
I adore that dark gray toned Ragini initially portrayed on the show and always appearing in our fics, she is so realistic and solid right? In her what I appreciate most is that gradual change from the brightest to the darkest and as I said in DK thread one from angle to demon, that was one hell of a ride right?
Oh, you have done a wonderful job there, in DK, that Ragini is just like Medusa, from lovely maiden to venomous she-devil. From that light, if you see this praise worthy then my dear I would consider that a huge honor.
I so wanted her to regret loving someone as weak and as unstable as Lakshya. Tried to show that a bit in the end. But she is too deep gone to turn around now. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one Shru, thanks a ton!
Loads of love,
Sakura

Saku, my comment on Honour:)

As you probably know from my various stories and my usual ramblings on the forum, I have a soft spot for Durga Prasad but in Icarus, you made me hate him and here too you made me loathe the Durga Prasad you so effectively painted in your work. I loved the darkness this piece brought out and the way it did it in such a compelling way. I think its nice to be able to write what I call "sunshine and roses" and like all nice, sweet things in life is very necessary too, but the real pieces that stay with you, linger endlessly and replay many times are often the ones with pain and pathos. This one fits there. I liked that you descried the background to Durga Prasad's gradual obsession with power, which he disguises even to himself as honour and his then surrender to that ego and well, form of evil. I also liked the way you showed the cruelty so deep rooted in the man now- the most striking example was when he made Annapurna betray Sanskaar- it was like a psychopath hurting someone's pet to punish them. Parts of it for some strange reason reminded me of Joffrey Baratheon, if you are familiar with Game of Thrones (I am obsessed with the books and show both!). Sanskaar of course even in the limited and overpowered form we saw him in inspired respect and admiration! The scenes describing his understanding of the betrayal and the whole of his meeting with Annapurna were amazing! Great work again Saku 🤗

Hi again Shru,
Oh, don't think I'm an enemy of our dear Durga Prasad, I do adore him as much as you do. In fact he is my favorite in the elder cast, such a lovely character he is...but I had to take this dark turn in Icarus. I can't imagine Ram Prasad turned dark or Sujata as strong as Annapurna was here. SO this was the sacrifice I made for Icarus' safe flight!
That is so true. Sunshine and roses just pile themselves on yet another story while the painful dark ones, with the impact they have on our hearts remain for a long time. I guess this is the end to a man shallow and unwilling to see it, his emptiness would be soon filled with evil darkness. Oh, I do know Joffrey and his deeds as for that matter and am familiar with GoT too😃 Yes, Durga is turned in to a twisted mind by then I guess, doing anything to hurt those who hurt him. Sanskar is made of much finer stuff and of cause is more after his soul mother than the vile father. I'm over the moon now, with your lovely words. Thanks a ton and some more again!
loads of love,

U have shown his true nature and his motivations behind his actions in Icarus and it makes him all the more petty and hateful...it's a wonder that Annapurna tolerated such a man all her life...and a pity tht when it had come to making a choice tht day...she chose her slimy snail of a husband over her son...tho he wasn't her blood I'm sure she loved him all the same

Simply superb and now looking forward to Love

Tas

Hey Tas,
Did it make you loathe him? I'm glad!
I did try to show that repulsive side to darkness, where one is only trying to hide their ugliness by being brutal. Annapurna was blindly in love I think, but she did realize the truth in the end and did some solid good for everyone.
Of cause she loved Sanskar as much as her own or perhaps a tad bit more!
Thank you so much dear. I would post as soon as I can.
Love,

Resss-ing 😈 😈

Un-Resss 😈 😉

Lovely end to the Calypso quartet, and to the Icarus Saga, my dear, dear Saku. First off, thanks so much for that lovely dedication at the beginning, it means a lot since you and your writing are so very dear to me. 🤗 🤗

I loved the way you did justice to the bevy of characters of covered in this one. Not just the leads, but the secondary/ supporting characters and even an entirely new one: Ashwin Sharma, whom you introduced here.

The first section: dealing with Durga Prasad and Annapurna, was lovely in a karmic sense. Finally, the man who betrayed so many, tried to crush so many at the altar of his greed, covetousness and sheer ruthless pursuit of power, gets his just desserts. And like all selfish, close minded people, he only truly realizes the value of somebody who has stood by him for so long, when he is about to lose her!! Typical of him, that he doesn't feel any true remorse for all his conniving, criminal actions; rather, he still muses on how and when the armor of invincibility he built came crashing down...perspective and introspection truly is a gift, something which the ilk of Durga Prasad in this story do not have...

What a contrast to him, is his far, far, better half---Annapurna, who, as you put so wonderfully, is now moving on to be a determined mother to the son of her heart, leaving behind the role of the emotionally drained, forever betrayed and taken for granted wife. Despite her multitude of sacrifices at the altar of Durga Prasad's selfish glory, over the years, he always took monstrous delight in the wounds he inflicted didn't he? It made me shudder, when Annapurna recalled the triumphant look in her husband's eyes, as he sundered (temporarily, thank God), the bond between Annapurna and Sanskaar. What kind of malicious human being would feel that...really, really despicable...

It speaks volumes of Annapurna's depth of character, the lovely way you've fleshed her out here, that she only feels relief, at being able to finally end this circle of lies and deceit, of suffering and torturing. And despite herself, the feeling of relief rushing through her veins also makes her feel a tad suffocated, does make her feel a pang of guilt at her supposed traitorous emotion. What a wonderful, self aware persona she is.

I must tell you Saku, next to Yashodara in SQ/FK, Annapurna in Icarus/ Calypso is my very favorite among what we term "secondary characters" that you have fleshed out so marvelously in your writing. You know I love devoting depth and layers to these characters, very crucial and fascinating in their own right. You & I have had numerous fascinating discussions on each others threads on Annapurna, Durga, Ram, Ragini, and even Lucky too. 😉 I just loved your take here, what a woman Annapurna is; truly a worthy Ma to Sanskaar!

I just loved the way she said that she is very, very sorry---not for leaving Durga now, for she sees no hope of redemption at all for him; but rather, sorry for what she could not do in the past; for not being able to guide him back firmly to the light, for being weak enough to bend before his bludgeoning will.

The second section had a lovely symmetry to the Annapurna--Sanskaar mother--son bond; by exploring Swara's brief interaction with Ashwin Sharma. A poignant exchange, that finally gives her a much needed closure and the strength to move on. I loved the parallels here, Saku---such a lovely touch. If Annapurna and Sanskaar are tied together by love, not by blood, and by a shared pain of what Durga Prasad wreaked on them; Ashwin and Swara are tied together by blood, not precisely by love, since fate, and Sharmishta's parents cheated them of that chance. Ashwin seems like a decent, honorable man, who would have loved Sharmishta far more sincerely and selflessly than Shekar ever did or ever could. It was just circumstance and destiny, which tore them apart; and that knowledge must have given Swara some closure. I loved the fact that she did not confront Ashwin with her knowledge; and she also desists from attending Myra's wedding, surmising the complications of any revelations on another half sister's happiness!! Not everyone is Ragini, but kudos to Swara here, for her very mature understanding and resolve.

And the last section---My Good Lord. Saku, why did you reduce me to tears? That was such a poignant moment, Sanskaar desperately trying to steel himself, deny himself Swara's love, for fear of what his own genetic inheritance could bring about in future. He feels that he is too dark and complicated a character, and Swara perhaps, is in love with his cool and collected "SK" persona, not the anguished and tortured Sanskaar within. And his worst fear of all---what if Durga Prasad's mindless selfishness, which enabled him to betray the loyal, loving Annapurna, as well as the innocent, naive Suhani; has been transmitted to Sanskaar through Durga Prasad's only contribution to his life---his genetic makeup? What if Swara's innocent adoration for him could turn him into a selfish monster, much as Annapurna's devotion could not turn back Durga Prasad's inherent evil?

I had tears rolling down my cheeks when I read that dear...Such a poignant moment. I remember having this discussion with you when I had portrayed a roughly analogous fear in Sanskaar's mind in Karna Parva (when he mistakenly assumes Ram cheated on Sujata, with Kaveri); and I so loved reading your take on the situation.

What a wonderful, selfless man Sanskaar is---with such a deep, unconditional love. And Swara proves herself worthy of it, too. The way she says, that he is too precious to abandon, that she always loved the Sanskaar behind the facade of SK, right from the very beginning! 👏 👏 And I loved too, the firm way she said that both of them were different from the examples set by the past generation. Genetics counts for only so much, after all. More crucial is nurture, one's own values, the emotions one holds dear in one's own heart and conscience. Swara does not have the unseeing, injudicious sacrificial tendencies which Annapurna earlier had, nor does Sanskaar have the monstrous weaknesses which Durga Prasad so gleefully indulged in.

The way they finally resolve these insecurities, and find solace in each others arms, their warm caresses, was so wonderful. Almost poetic in a sense.

Loved this so much, darling. I am going to miss this like crazy, and I do so hope the Spells of Spring will be out soon.

Loads & Loads of Love,

---Viji

Res 😃
Unres:

Saku dearest 🤗

Firstly that dedication in the beginning- made me whoop for joy and also gladdened my heart so thank you! Icarus is my favourite and because I am a greedy lawyer, I believe Calypso is the Supplemental Agreement to the Original Deed and thus both have to be read together, with which logic I lay claim to Calypso as an extension of my original favourite too 😆. You see now why clients accuse us of twisting things to our benefit! 😆

So this part: firstly, the lyric/ poetry choices were fab and such an unexpected surprise in that they were in Hindi which is a bit unusual for your work? But I am so happy you deviated that little as I found both very apt!

The first section really packed a punch! It was to satisfying to see the ravages of the once really high and mighty Durga Prasad who inspired such hate in Icarus. It was nice to know at the end of Icarus that he was broken but in a sadistic way that I won't apologise for (am a real Krishna from the Mahabharata bhakta after all!) it was very nice to see the circle squared there and see his actual pain when Annapurna finally walked out.

Annapurna Maheshwari - what can I say about this woman in Icarus and Calypso? She is truly spectacular- as we have discussed (and I fear this may be a tad repetitious), the layers to her are so fascinating and the dignity with which she deals with life- truly inspiring despite the mistakes she made. I so love that you really gave her her voice, party in Icarus but through this move here, you crowned her the queen she always was. Even more stunning when you read on the revelations Sanskaar makes.

Now the SwaSan section - wow! How do you do it each time? You manage to find twists and turns that are such hairpin curves on a road that is anyway at cliff edge, you could never know when the next bend is or whether you may actually go off the edge! Fantastic!

I have said before and repeat- I really like how you see Swara. It rather resembles (in the real way that matters I mean, i.e. deep down character wise), the Swara I see and try to often write about. She is so sensible despite the little girl that still lives and endearingly comes across. I like the fairly matter of fact approach and her ability to deal with things and also be firm in what she does want and doesn't. I love how she does recognise that she can't love like Sanskaar but still loves him overwhelmingly and is not scared to convince him of that.

Now saved the best till last! Sanskaar ❤️ How much I love this man!!! Just the whole thing of his journey in this (and by this I mean from Icarus to now) and how he has still managed to retain his intrinsic core of pure platinum 👏⭐️. His whole holing back as he thinks he is not worthy whereas anyone would be the luckiest to have him in any capacity- friend, son, lover!!! So his mother was Christian and a poor girl untapped by the sophisticated older man villain! The pain of it all! And then the master touch with the superb whammy! Annapurna knew and still loved him so much! What a mother and in turn what a son she made! Taking Yashodha to a different level! I loved how Sanskaar felt more hurt at the betrayal by his father of such a woman than anything else. And then Swara's acceptance healed those gaping wounds. So finally the just reward was obtained and each person got the fruit of their labour! Karma is a wonderful and terrible thing but always incredible to watch. There was something so beautiful about that kiss in the end and especially about the smiles moulding to each other! All felt happy and blissful and at peace!

Truly a superb epilogue Saku and once again, underscores the brilliance of its predecessor but truly enhances it too- no mean feat! Absolutely love it and love you too xoxo

PS: Eagerly awaiting your next one! xoxo
