Res 😊

Un-Res

Yay yay!! When I commented on the Finale & Epilogue of the Frost Knight yesterday, feeling all bittersweet and full of saudade at the end of the Winter series 😛, little did I know that you were going to be back with a bang, with a spin off series to the SS I hold as my second favorite among all your works. 😊 (Of course, I have a hard time deciding between Icarus and Elixir...but maybe, just maybe a teeny, tiny edge to Icarus. Though some chapters in Elixir literally made me cry...).

I am so very happy now 😉 Still waiting for the Spells of Spring, though for now Calypso will keep me very intrigued indeed.

I loved how you focused on the Annapurna--Sanskaar bond here, a relationship which both of us find so fascinating, and have explored in different ways. A mother--son bond forged in the heart, fraught sometimes with misunderstanding, pain and bias---but ultimately proving that sometimes, the ties of the soul go deeper than both blood and water...

Your portrayal of Annapurna was something I really loved in Icarus. A mother who had chosen to sacrifice her son's values, his love, his very sense of identity and honor; in order to protect the facade of the perfect, united family she thought she had. And the ceaseless, all consuming guilt that was eating away at her ever since.

I loved how in the spin off, you gave such a beautiful description of the scene when Sanskaar walks out of the home in betrayed disgust, in weary, bitter bewilderment. Those lines "I am not taking your guilt with me" were so full of the pain he had felt, at being betrayed by someone whom he adored.

I liked the 3 quotes on the nature of guilt you had mentioned. Very apt! The Anna Godbersen one beautifully depicted Annapurna's frame of mind in the beginning, as did the Saba Taahir one for the last section. And in between----that amazing, wonderful quote from one of my favorite novels and favorite authors of all time, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini! Such an accurate quote to describe Lakshya's frame of mind after having committed that murder in the heat of the moment; and then being gutless and cowardly enough to do anything his father says, to divert suspicion from himself. To the extent of framing the woman he "loved" and to marrying her own half sister! There was, though, that small moment earlier, when as so powerfully conveyed in that quote, he almost wanted to be discovered in his wrongdoing, so that he would not have to carry this huge, crippling burden of guilt alone. But in his case, the feeling seems to have passed, or least, suppressed very well indeed...

So this is exactly how Annapurna came to know about Lakshya's involvement, and how she knew about his mehndi stained dress. You'd mentioned it in Icarus of course, but reading it in detail here made it all seem so hard hitting, almost as if it was happening right in front of me.

The last section was beautiful. The dichotomy between fear and power that Annapurna faces. Fear of getting caught in what she was doing, of turning against the husband she had meekly obeyed all her life. But a sense of power of doing the right thing, power of preventing a further ghastly sin.

And above all, her extremely hopeful desire, of seeing the son of her heart again. As a mother, I found that so very moving.

Dozens of 🤗 🤗 for Calypso, Saku. So does Calypso refer to Annapurna? She is trying to, well, not detain, but to bring Sanskaar back after all. Or are you referring to Casper 😛 as Calypso? The person to save whom SK actually returns initially---before of course, falling deeply in love with her, and subsequently reconciling with his mother?

Lots of Love,

----Viji

firstly lots and lots and lots of 🤗 for writing this. i know i pestered you a bit there. but this first OS itself has been so worth it. thanks SO much for the dedication. love you Saku!

You know i always tell you that you have a way with the words and you always deliver on it. That first part between Sanskar and AP was really emotional and yet understated. In the sense that it said so much more without the uttering the words. The betrayal cutting through him so much that he cannot bear being there anymore. and he understands the guilt she had, but is angry and hurt so much that he makes it clear that she can live with her guilt he isn't going to stay back and maintain the relation to alleviate it in anyway. the harsh blow for the mother who chose wrongly and lost the one who probably cared the most for her even vs her own blood.

then the actual incident. i had imagined that laksh who be scared and he was. but you had show a selfish and sinister side to him. which was always there in your fic but he was always trying to hide and here it is out in the open. the way he chose himself without swara ...his supposed love coming into picture...and then the way he was going off to sleep as if nothing happened. he was he tried to fight the case and then the car surveillance should have made it clear, but this one took it to another level.

finally the mother wants to do the right thing and hardens herself to do it her way without allowing anyone to dissuade her. that might have probably been the first time she did something like that and the dilemma and her choice is beautifully shown and finally the mothers heart which yearns to see her son and hopefully help heal the one who deserved it.

waiting for the rest of your OS

🤗

Lovely OS Sakura...indeed it clears so many unsaid parts of Icarus, beautiful and complete tho it was!!

Annapurna's love for her elder son tho not by blood is so evident in the 1st part of the OS and it is reinforced at the end ... She is a just woman even if her husband is not and she has followed him all her life...strangely tho she opposes this husband not to save her son but another's child and tht is greatness in itself...

This OS is like a prologue of sorts to Icarus and yet if it were a prologue the mystery wouldn't hv remained!!

How Durga prasad trusts tht Annapurna wouldn't oppose him ever tht he doesn't even bother to acknowledge her listening outside the door and assumes she will keep quiet but will he ever know she was the one to have summoned Sanskaar indirectly and even later to have handed over proofs of laksh's guilt??

Looking forward to the remaining OS's

Sakura... 😊

I am so happy to see you again with another gift for us Calypso
😊 Girl you have so much to give us(kaala tikka for u)
After that stormy winter and beautiful spring..aha time for icarus..yee 😊
Icarus is very close to my heart.I have told my little sis about this story...and she is more than happy..
Calypso another greek mythology character..well i had to go through it in wiki before reading this short Guilt..
Well the title is just perfect.
Annapurna's guilt is well defined..guilt for betraying the right one,her son
Laksh was selfish always like durgaprashad was cunning..
Finally that guilt forces her to go in the right path...
Waiting for more updates...

Love,
Simi 😊

p.s.-well i am madly in love with SK and his Casper 😆

Icarus Spinoff!
RES

EDITED

Saku! 🤗 So good to see you back and so soon!
And AHH Icarus Spin off! Icarus is my second favorite after the Winter series and I'm so happy you came up with this! ❤️
The quotes you've added are so lovely and perfect 👏. So the first one is mainly about Annapurna. I'm so glad you started with her as she's my favorite in Icarus, after SK of course ⭐️. I just loved her there! I liked the FBs you gave us of SK leaving her...and how you described her inner turmoil. And I even liked the Laksh part, surprisingly I could see where he is coming from, after all what else can we expect from him? 😊
And god I hate this DP so much, such a terribly selfish man.🥱 I'm glad Annapurna finally realized what he is and acted in time.
You did a great job in bringing out her emotions and perspective here Saku, I love this Annapurna!👏 I love her bond with Sanskaar ❤️👏
And oh oh you included the part where she calls Singh and asks him to get SK to Kolkata, To Swara, to his Peace! I'll never forget that conversation between Sanskaar and Annapurna at the end of Icarus as I was so in Awe with it! And I love how you started Calypso from where you ended Icarus, it makes it more perfect and poignant even ❤️

Great start Saku, looking forward to more!

And oh in answer to your reply to my comment in Frost Knight thread, I'm so happy you considered my little request regarding The Spring and the little prince Maheshwari! I hope we get it in the future, can't wait 😳

Lots of Love,
Yukthi.
