Hello friends. I'm back with a One Shot again, after the past few Three Shots. This is inspired by the precap from the last episode and also from the emerging storyline we know from the spoilers. It offers a slight variation to what we can guess will happen, but effectively takes place at the Farmhouse SwaSan are at, waiting for Lakshya. I hope you all like it. Please let me know what you think! Thank you!

MAELSTROM

Sanskaar and Swara sat in awkward silence in the main section of the Maheshwari Farmhouse. The large and luxurious accommodation, totally unsuited to being classed as a farmhouse, was currently decked out in flowers, flowing draperies and soft mood lighting, making even more of a mockery of their current situation. Both of them kept stealing glances at each other when they assumed the other was not looking but both were so conscious of each other, that it was an exercise in futility. Each was aware of the other's slightest movement, despite the physical distance Sanskaar had deliberately put between them by going to sit at the dining table to the side, leaving Swara sitting on the stairs, both shunning the deep and comfortable sofas in the palatial living section through mutual unspoken agreement.

"What a wonderful start to married life," Sanskaar was thinking bitterly. On the face of it, he should be the happiest man on earth. He was married to the woman he had come to love with a passion so fierce, it was almost frightening in its intensity. This time there was no getting away from the rituals that had taken place. They were married. The only problem was that neither of them wanted this farce of a marriage they had been forced into, both for very different reasons. Sanskaar looked over again at her- she was sitting with her head bowed now, her fingers nervously playing with the edge of her dupatta, as if wanting to shred it to pieces. She had that slightly glazed look she had worn since the start of this already long day. At the same moment, as if again sensing his gaze, she looked up and their eyes met. The pain in hers intensified that in his, her confusion was tangible.

How he wished he could walk over to her and secure her in his arms, gently smooth those creases away from that smooth forehead and kiss that beautiful face until it was flushed from pleasure, rather than from unwonted embarrassment that had only came into play between them in force since recent events and consolidated by their marriage today. He wanted to absorb her pain and grant her solace and peace- just as she had done for him not long ago. If only they were a "normal" married couple, he thought wistfully. Trying to firmly trample down on these dangerous thoughts, he instead looked away, uncomfortable lest she see the longing in his eyes, which she claimed to be able to read. Best to focus on what awaits us, Sanskaar told himself tiredly, wiping a hand across his eyes.

Swara was still looking at him and at that gesture, the slight frown that had so worried him seconds ago, now deepened. "He looks so tired and worn out," she thought, with a spurt of worry. "Little wonder though! After all that's happened recently, and today, and it's still not ended- we still have so much to face." She tried to squash her growing panic at this thought and looked once more at the door, wondering when their visitor would arrive. She wanted all of this to be over, she wanted to be the "old Swara" Sanskaar had referred to, but knowing that that was no longer a possibility. That threshold had been crossed to a point of no return. No, now they all had to try and make sense of the madness they had all been plunged into, but not yet. Before then, yet more confrontations had to be faced and attempts made to bring out the truth they had so far tried unsuccessfully to reveal.

Just then there was a loud knocking on the ornate doors. Despite having expected this, Swara jumped slightly and noticed Sanskaar look up sharply at the door, an odd expression in his eyes. She jumped up, glad to be able to do something, anything, but before she could take more than a step, his voice stopped her,

"Swara.." making her immediately freeze. Her senses were so heightened when it came to him now, especially since earlier today. That was when the monumental impact of all he had done for her, culminating in actually taking a sacred oath in vain to protect her and what he had said to her afterwards, when the only solace she could find was once again in his gentle embrace, had cut through her conscience like a searing knife. It was as if a blindfold had suddenly dropped away from her eyes, forcing her to face what she had long tried to willfully ignore- his feelings and his pain. But this was not the time to get distracted with that now, that could come later.

"Main dekhta hoon," Sanskaar was saying, having also already got up. His jaw had set determinedly and he had dropped that inscrutable mask over his face again, which she had noticed he liked to do when he was trying to do something unpleasant. He strode past her to the door, which after a momentarily hesitation that was so slight that she almost thought she imagined, he opened wide.

Despite them both knowing who it would be standing on the other side, seeing Lakshya there, today of all days, seemed almost grotesque.

Sanskaar looked at his cousin, valiantly fighting to control his instinctive reaction to seeing him standing there, despite having knowing he was coming, following their earlier curt exchange on the phone. He wished he could slam the door on his once loved face and banish him from both his thoughts and their lives. "Of course you can't though," a voice within him taunted. "You will never be free of him. Your Swara loves him, and after today, you may be instrumental in handing him gift wrapped to her. They can be happy and you can go sink back into that pit of despair you crawled out from but only this time, you never will, as she won't be there to haul you out. She will be living the life she wanted, with him. You will be banished to the category of bad dreams."

With an effort of will, he stopped his derailing thoughts and simply stood aside to allow Lucky to enter, which he did, equally silently. He was feeling just as uncomfortable, a thought that gave Sanskaar some uncharacteristically childish satisfaction. However, that was short lived as he then saw how intently Swara and Lucky were looking at each other. Swara had the same slightly accusing but tortured expression she seemed to unconsciously reserve for Lucky. Lucky for his part, was looking at her with an expression of extreme regret and frustrated longing. The latter made Sanskaar clench his fist in helpless anger. He knew he had no right to resent this wordless communication between them. They had a history and unfinished business. Sanskaar had been trying to steel himself for weeks and months against the feelings any interaction between them aroused in him, but it was of no use.

He was powerless against the molten rage that spilled over within him when he thought of how Lucky didn't deserve her. He recalled with bitter clarity the harsh words Lucky had dared utter about Swara and the harshness with which he had treated her. He remembered every tear she had shed over him, forcing him to watch helplessly as she battled his wrongful anger and recriminations. No matter how much Sanskaar told himself that it was understandable, as all that was born of misunderstanding and that Lucky was just a victim of Ragini's incredibly clever machinations, all he could think of in such moments, was Swara's tear streaked face and the anguish in her eyes.

Then there was the jealousy, acknowledged Sanskaar wryly. He could pretend all he liked. He knew that the feeling that ate at him like acid, seeping into his very soul, plunging him into the depths of despair and making him want to rain his fists down on his beloved brother as he had done not long ago, was the green eyed monster. How ironic, he thought- he, who had prided himself on his analytical thinking and ability to defeat emotion with reason, should constantly swirl around in this whirlpool of helpless frustration and endless struggle to control his wayward emotions. It was best he accept what was inevitable. Swara may be bound to him by ties forged of pain and suffering and a mission gone horribly wrong, and now by a forced relationship sanctioned by all except themselves, but her heart still belonged to his brother.

He noticed now that Swara and Lucky were both actually looking at him, slightly nervously. He had let Lucky in, standing slightly to the side, but clearly things had to be progressed between them to enable this seemingly interminable day to be brought to its next juncture. Lucky had called him earlier and they had agreed that he should come over to talk. Much to his shock, it seemed as if finally, vestiges of the old Lucky- the one not possessed by a demon spirit sent by his evil wife that robbed his ability to see or reason, were breaking through. Oh, he would never be the most discerning of characters. Understanding life's finer subtleties and machinations would always be beyond his naive grasp, but he had previously never been as mindlessly slavish to someone as he had become with Ragini. However, it seemed that Swara's last attempt to tell him her truth again, followed by whatever had transpired, had at least made him reluctantly see that there was a distinct possibility that they were telling the truth and thus he was here, so they could work out what to do next, to hopefully end this melee once and for all.

Suddenly, Sanskaar felt overcome. He knew yet more plotting and planning awaited. Those were certainly his forte, neither Swara nor Lucky were equipped for that. If left to them, the results would be laughable, he thought ironically. No, those tasks were best left to those who had walked the path of hell, even if they had then been pulled to the light, not souls who were blissfully untainted with any darkness. He had to leave this room, he thought, his frustration and suppressed illogical anger spilling over. He couldn't watch them making eyes at each other in front of him. He was not, did not want to be, strong enough.

"Tum dono ko kaafi kuch baatein karni hongi. Tum karlo. Main thodi deir mein waapis ajavunga aur phir joh bhi plan banana he, woh hum final karlenge", he broke out.

Both Swara and Lakshya looked at him incredulously at that. He immediately noticed that Lucky was unable to hide the sudden flare of hope at his words once the realisation of what he said about leaving them alone sunk in. He looked at Swara, not wanting to, but compelled to gauge her reaction too. "Why do you want to torture yourself with seeing the same relief from her", he asked himself angrily, but like a moth to a flame, his gaze locked on hers. Her eyes had gone wide and she was flushed. She looked entirely lost and confused for a few seconds and then, rather than mirroring Lucky's expression, hers reflected flaring panic.

Swara couldn't understand what on earth Sanskaar was playing at. How dare he suggest leaving her alone with Lakshya? Had he gone mad? When his words sank in, she felt like she had been punched in the stomach. She couldn't understand why the thought of being left alone with Lakshya seemed so distasteful to her but every instinct in her cried out that Sanskaar should not leave. She had no time to analyse. She just knew that he was the anchor that ground her here and the only way she was able to prevent herself getting swept up in this frightening vortex around her, was by staying rooted to him. She stared at him imploringly and somehow, the earlier shutter he had drawn over his expressive eyes, slipped momentarily, revealing a naked agony that made her heart clench so painfully, she felt as if a giant fist had squeezed it.

Sanskaar had looked away now and was abruptly walking away towards the door, clearly intent on making good his threat to leave her with Lakshya.

"Sanskaar..." Swara called out in a voice that sounded way too shrill to her. She noticed Lakshya slightly jump and frown at them puzzled. Sanskaar was by now at the door but stopped, his back to her. Without further thought, Swara quickly walked over, past the somewhat bemused Lakshya, and reached him. He still didn't turn to face her so she stood to his side, her gaze boring into his face.

"Sanskaar, tumhe kahin jaane ki zaroorat nahi hai. Tum mujhe yahan akela chodd ke nahi jaa sakte. Humme plan banana hai, aur yeh tum bhi jaante ho ke yeh tumhare bina nahi hosakta."

He seemed like he was about to say something to her, probably to explain that he would be back soon, but she couldn't allow that and did not give him the chance, interjecting frantically,

"Please Sanskaar, yeh bahut important hai. Shayad yeh hamara akhri chance he. Challo.", saying which she then shocked them all, even herself, by taking his hand and gently trying to tug him back to the room.

Sanskaar's eyes snapped in shock to her slim fingers splayed around his much larger hand, and then swiveled to meet hers. She met his scorching look squarely, wordlessly pleading with him. He felt his breath catch, not quite able to believe what this signified. Almost as if in a dream, he moved his fingers so that they were now linked with hers, a gesture that had become so familiar to them in the battles they had fought against the world since teaming up. Lakshya was looking at them, with a suddenly disturbed but perceptively speculative look, his eyes drawn to their now entwined fingers. Sanskaar and Swara eventually looked up, almost wrenching their gazes from each other and faced him, ready to jointly undertake what they would need to do, in which Lakshya too would play a key role.

Oh Wow! Awesome! I can totally picture this happening in the show, but don't know if the CVs will have the sensitivity to show this kind of thing the proper way.
