Very beautifully written, Shruti. The research you've put into the background and setting for the story is impressive.
I loved your portrayal of Swara's analysis/ realization of Lucky's character: ""she wasn't blinded by sympathy for him, especially when he still did not manage to complete the jigsaw she had pretty much laid out before him as one does for a small child who cannot cope with over complicated puzzles. ...In a move that was typically Lakshya, he wilfully chose to stay half blind, thinking he had progressed so much from when he was totally sightless."" 😊 😊 I loved the sarcastic wit in that last line!
And the setting of the kuldevi puja...spoke to me in so many ways. I come from a fairly traditional family (though quite liberal, thankfully we're not orthodox), so we always had a lot of pujas/ homas at home while I was growing up. There is something so incandescently beautiful about the functions...the deep spiritual meaning behind the rituals. It was so apt, Swara coming to her realization in that charged atmosphere, and Sanskaar, as always, putting her safety before his!
You know, I am beginning to think there is some kind of "internet--cosmic" connect between us 😊 I am, coincidentally, putting the finishing touches on my OS "Fire"-- the continuation to my last OS "Water". My setting is also a havan 😊 but luckily not the kuldevi puja, and the theme is totally different.
Thanks for the PM. I just realized that you've written some other works before this--somehow, had missed those. Shall read them and comment on those threads!
Vijjiii 🤗
Love your detailed comments- thank you so much for that and also for really just getting all that I wanted to get across! Re research- ah well, occupational hazard I guess, you can't take the lawyer out the girl! I just hate illogical plots, even if they are on the show. I'm not sure I'm totally accurate but as long as it can be believable, I can live with it!
Re Lucky- haha! I couldn't resist that, just as I couldn't retain from making Sanskaar tell Swara that she did a constant Ma-Baba jaap 😉
Your upbringing sounds almost identical to mine!! We were exactly the same, especially me as I'm very close to my mum and she is very spiritual- we both love that sort of function. Yes- that was it about the spiritual setting being needed to make one see things clearly.
As you know, I absolutely loved "Water" and said even then that I couldn't wait to read on the other elements so cannot wait to read Fire- I know it will be amazing. How funny-we clearly do have a connect but I already felt that in our interactions 😳.
Ahh- thanks for offering to read the other stuff- there's only 2 other OSs. Your too kind. Thank you again. As I'm a total fan of your work, your positive comments mean a lot! x
