Possible Solution to the MID PMs

A lot of members in the Bollywood section (including myself) have been receiving MID hate PMs in the past couple of weeks from newbie members. These members have been sending scathing, vile, crude, and downright explicit (sexual) PMs to others because they don't want to face regular members with their real IDs. As a result, regular members become upset and the lively discussions of a particular forum become wasted. Regular members then decide either to leave IF and not come back (a bunch of members have already left the forum) or to simply not be as active on the forum as they usually are...These newbie members also have zero posts, hence they cannot be traced by the moderators...Can something be done so that newbie members with zero posts do not have the chance to have Pm-ing privileges?

I got this from Sheldon_Bazinga and I think a rule similar to this would work out great for this forum😊

I think they need to make a rule here where to send a PM a person needs to have at least 10 posts under his/her username, this way atleast we will know who sends the hate pm.

All the forums of IF have been bombarded with MIDs and this would be an effective way to limit this problem for the future...Anyone who has ever received MID pms or are tired of the animosity that MID members bring, please make your voices heard! And if anyone has more solutions to this problem, please post them here as well!
There's power in numbers, and I know for a fact that there are a lot of people who would like this problem to be solved👍🏼

Actually that is a really great idea. I used to be on a different forum like 4 years ago. You had to be a member for 72 hours (3 WHOLE DAYS!!!!) before you could make a single post on the forum or contact other members. I think something like that would be very effective.

I don't understand or know the technicalities involved, but if they could do it 4 years ago, why can't IF? This whole MID business is a sickening one. The PMS are explicit and filled with filth. This place has lost its sanity.

Take all the pming, scrapping, posting privileges away until the member proves to be sane. There are lots of imbeciles around here. 🤢

Thats a lovely idea sheldon...it will also make it easier for the mods to track the person sending the hate PMs because i remember maddy saying that ppl with 0 posts cannot be tracked.
So if tht rule falls into place,it will make life much easier for everyone on IF.

Thank you KC for the suggestion, really appreciate it.

To Vijay,

Unfortunately I have been on receiving end also of vile pms spewed only with hatred and abuses; and it's about time something substantial is done about it. At first I chose to ignore the pms because I sincerely thought that the abuser was mentally sick and needed treatment right away but recently I have come know that all of the pms that are being spammed on the Bollywood forum are by regular members that are in disguise of MIDs. 🤢 These people very well have a regular ID on IF which they use and then they have several other IDs they make use of to harass and verbally abuse us. If you want, I could pm you the content of the pms I have received just so you know the heights of absurdity they have reached. I second Sheldon's idea, and no one on IF should be able to pm/scrap etc unless they have a certain amount of posts under their ID.

Do whatever you can, but please do it, because it is for the betterment of IF. Bollywood forum has gone to dogs because of such abusive and hostile nature...as a member of IF for a couple of yrs, I wish this could get solved.

Sheldon and KC...I'm definitely in favor of this idea.

I'm reposting this from the Bollywood section -

This may be a rant, but whatever. It's about time this whole issue is addressed.

I come on I-F to discuss movies/shows, share my views, read about others' views, have fun, etc...not to have my family and I cursed out by some psychotic stalker. I don't appreciate being harassed like this, and I'm sure nobody else does either.

All this time when members in the Bollywood forum were discussing about getting nasty PMs, all I could do was consider myself lucky not to get one...no, not because I don't want to argue back and fourth with the loser, but because I didn't want my family and I to be cursed out by some random faceless pathetic moron on the internet for no goddamn reason. That's the last thing I want to happen.

But seems like this website never ceases to surprise me. I got one PM last night and then one this afternoon (from two different senders). Even though the first one was not as half as bad as the one I got today (or the ones which other members have received before me...like bringing in family, etc), it was pretty downright nasty. Not to mention...the feeling that there's someone on an online forum that is threatenting you and is on your back possibly everytime you log on here and even out of I-F.

And the second PM...oh my god. Who the hell even talks like that? Oh wait...jhangli jaahil jhanwaars do. Maa, bhai, behen, baap...the psycho doesn't spare anyone. Someone direct these psychos to the nearest mental asylum, please!

The Bollywood forum and the psychotic silent reader, or readers (whoever the hell it may be) have hit an all time low. The amount of frustration, vile thoughts, and dirty language that reeks from the PM senders is mind-boggling, to say the least.

Where is VJ and the I-F team? How about instead of focusing on how to make I-F 'pretty' and more and more like Shaadi.com, you all try to solve this MID shit? Please and thank you.

I agree...its way more crucial to maintain peace and dignity within the forum than to get the chaska meter ratings right...what use is all those things anyway, when majority of the members leave for the sake of sanity?

I was told that such a thing was suggested a year ago by a few members but no action has been taken since...we cant keep reporting all our PMs to the mods all the time, they are trying their best, but therz little they can do if the problem is so regular...

If not completely end it, there has to be a way to atleast reduce it. And implementing this suggestion seems like a start.

If anything, I should get my lawyer involved because due to the weak privacy of this site, I feel threatened by random psychos on the loose. What if some of these psyshos are moderators and have access to my IP address, huh? I feel violated and I feel threatened due to the nature of such pms and it's about time IF does something substantial about it...Discussions on earth shattering matters such as the chaska meter, like button, dislike button, rigged rankings will not do.

^ Damn right it does.

But no...every time a legit and important issue is raised, it eventually gets brushed under the carpet.

I remember last year I had opened up a topic in this section, blasting VJ and his team because this website (and it's stupid ads) had ruined my laptop to the point that I lost everything from it. All my pictures, 4 years of work from high school, music (for which I pay, from i tunes)...you name it. So what happened then? VJ commented, found faults in my laptop's anti-virus system, and locked my topic. Luckily, I did retreive all my stuff from my old laptop, but for a very expensive price.

A member thinks the 9/11 tragedy is a joke and wishes that some members had died on that day. But what happens? I open up a topic on it to let others know about it and asking for some fair action to be taken, the member shamelessly defends (or should I say...justifies) herself, a moderator intervenes, closes the topic, and ends up giving me a 40% WL increase, along with the member who was unfairly targetted. Has the idiotic member who made the derogatory comment been banned yet? Nope! She, by the way, is still on this website instead of being banned and is ROLF'ing her way to insanity.

Back in 2008 or 2009, a moderator leaked a member's personal information her on I-F so everyone could see. Now, I don't know about anyone else...but someone who stoops that low definitely does not come off as being a normal person in my eyes. Yes, the issue was taken care of...but after SO long. Almost all of I-F had to be involved in it, a big showdown between two parties, and then the moderator faced consequences. That moderator is a regular member on I-F now (under a different username), so everyone please be careful! You sure as hell don't want to piss her off.

VJ...how about for once you stop trying to make I-F more and more like FB and Shaadi.com? Let's focus on things that...I don't know...matter?! Who cares what position Geet or IPKKND or any other random telly show is on? What is this chaskameter crap that shakes all of I-F? Certainly, if you have time for all that, then I'm sure you and your team can make an effort to do something about this.

Exactly...we all wouldn't be writing in this thread if our own section's mods could handle the problem, which obviously they can't

This problem seems simple enough but what is the reasoning behind allowing newbie members with no posts to pm? It shouldn't be that difficult to require them to post once wherever in the many forums of IF, whether it's the introduction section, a debate section, a romantic tv couple's thread, or simply the Bolly section itself
...Why are these people even being members if they're not going to participate in the most important part of IF: it's forums?

I've been on IF for a long time and have seen it grow from just a mere forum to a social networking media sphere with news, celebrity interviews, member and tv show rankings, contests, creative teams, etc...this forum is ingenious but there's no use if people aren't going to be a part of the forums...after all, if there's no traffic in the forums, then there's no use to the social networking plug-ins...We are not forced to come on IF, we come because we want to and we like this website, but there are other websites out there that can do the same job as well
