One solution can be that newbies cannot PM anyone. They can PM only those members who are in their friend's list. So that way spammers won't be able to harass anyone and genuine newbies can PM members in their friend's list ! :)

Hey,

it seems like a good suggestion but however, we should not generalize and consider all of the newbies to be MIDs. Some are genuine new ones while many often creates new IDs to misuse it.

I hope we can implement restricted access for newbies like no access to PM anyone or view members profile or making more than 1-3 posts per day until they reach 25 posts will definitively prevent them from spamming around and harassing members and Dev team members.

Also a small request, can we please stick to the main problem about finding a solution to the MIDs.

Or how about being on the "buddy list" before being able to pm anyone? That leaves the judgement as well as consequence in the member's hands and not in the DT's . I think that should be easy enough to enforce.

Newbies are being mentioned here in the context of just MIDs, this thread is not for just any general newbies, but those who deliberately misuse their PM-ing privileges. Aahaana, those are great ideas, especially that second one with the 1-3 posts per day idea! That would actually be highly beneficial but I think the limit should be shortened to maybe 6-9 posts instead, because with 25 posts, legitimate newbies would have to be patient for a week before they can freely post, and I don't think most new members are like that

I don't think pm-ing only those in your buddy list is a good idea for active members...I think the admin overall prefers the open communication between members. And actually, I've needed to pm members that I'm not friends with from time to time on certain topics...If that has to be implemented, then there should be an accept or reject option for incoming pms from members that are not on the buddy list (sort of like the Facebook friend request option)

Thank you all for your inputs😊

^^ No coolchick , I was talking only about the newbies. The rule for PMing should be applied only to newbies, not for other ladder group members ! :)
And as for making posts , I have seen newbies making random posts in inactive sections, that way they can make posts in these inactive sections without getting noticed and still can send PMs(after spamming in forums) !

Just call me KC😊

That makes much more sense Ishan because the other ladder group members have a multitude of reasons to pm each other, limiting the access of just newbies would be really useful

I've seen that happen too with the newbies in the inactive sections...perhaps those sections could be archived? But even if they do spam, mods can at least track them and have the ability to ban them because these members won't have zero posts

Yeah that is possible KC ! But since many of members are complaining about harassment over PMs , so I think both the PM rule as well as posting rule should be applied on newbies. Though that will inconvenient for genuine newbies but then some steps do need to be taken against the spammers !

KC excellent post and suggestion, something does need to be done because the majority of time the nasty PMs do come from members who have not posted on the forum nor do they intend to. They just join to attack and that needs to stop.

Ishan, I think you have an excellent idea on limiting newbie rules...so I'll alter my first post soon to add that in

I just wanted to mention that we don't need to change newbie rules either if overall there was a way to just track members with no posts...I've visited sites, like people's blogs and whatnot, where my exact location was traced even though I was a "Guest".

This widget called RevolverMaps easily pinpoints the incoming traffic on a specific webpage, so tracking people who don't post anything should be feasible here as well...This basically is a spinning globe that shows the city, state/province and country of all the users visiting a site at a specific time

Here's a link to the widget:

Something needs to be done about this Vijay...and soon! Given the growing popularity of pages & groups on FB, such issues that make it painful for members to be on IF only make the move much easier. I wish this and the numerous other "IF experience" issues get addressed speedily!
