The stages in the story should be
First, Kunal and Mauli. (Presently being shown).

Second, Kunal and Mauli with Kunal as Nandini's prime support. Not supporting her with every little thing instead talking sense into her head by being head strong with her. Like what he did in Goa. (Probably from Monday).

Third, Nandini understanding that the support she always needed was the kind of support that Kunal gives. Feels indebtedness towards him and somewhere is in love but doesn't know. She should be independent and working at this point.

Fourth, Kunal understanding what he wants from Mauli and seeing that in Nandini but never giving a thought to EMA. At this point Kunal and Nandini should be friends and very comfortable with each other. Kunal should have started sharing everything with Nandini as a friend.

Fifth, Nandini realizing her love for Kunal. (Possibilities of them dragging here, but ideally it should be a short phase).

Sixth, Kunal confessing to Nandini that he has probably fallen out of love and Nandini confessing to Kunal that she loves him.

Seventh, Kunal denying Nandini's love and warning her about the consequences.

Eighth, Kunal eventually falling in love with Nandini.

Ninth, They are involved in an EMA. This is where Kunal feels guilty and thinks about his marriage as to what went wrong. Kunal decides to separate and mend his relationship with Mauli to later get a clearer understanding of why he fell in love with Nandini and finally making up his mind to end his relationship with Mauli. (This should be a long phase).

Tenth, Kunal confesses to Mauli and is sorry for what happened. Mauli is terribly disappointed and broken. For the sake of their families they stay together until they have the courage to bring out the separation. The situation is handled maturely without much of melodrama, they separate and move on.

Kunal and Nandini never come together because they feel guilty of whatever happened.
