Legacy and Longing: Inspiring Leaders/Heroes You Want to See Back!

Today, the only thing that stood out for me was the Saras scene and most of all Kusum being the one who actually feels saras pain. That girl is secretly in love with him and If efforts are made on her part she would be a better pair for saras. She has always been the one to have more faith in Saras than Kumud. (Chappals away please, Samudians). After seeing Kumud thanking Sras today, I don't want her anywhere near Saras, How much egoistic can one get!

Ivy I felt Kumud pramaad scene was dismissed and was not Ak's mise-en-scene.There were a couple of quick scenes establishing his repentance, telling them about meeting kalika, wrist slash, kangan etc.But the scene of impact was the thank you scene.Santhi - so here I was looking at it from my newly acquired perspective of how the director used this scene and it's impact vis a vis Kumud pramaad scene. But from its emotional analysis - thanks for bringing that out, because I was too proud of myself for having been able to see a bit of film making perspective, and left out the emotional perspective. So, yes that was Saras feeling sorry for himself, witnessing his own shradh, and to top it this madam says shukriya to himHow obsessed in her desire to pramaad sudhar she is! And so hurt he was , for the first time, he taunted her.Navin ya Saras? Poor man poora identity is lost, when he decided to kill Saraswatichandra for her sake, he did not realize that it will come to this!I too did not like her shukriya and koi apshakun nahi hoga! She has not even thought of what he is going through, madam was too self absorbed today. And gauti - the first few moments bent over the ashes of the havan of his own shradh, so broken, and even in his convo with Mai - this man is too good! And that dialogue from her - about his getting mukti from his prayshchit , mukti is so death like, for some own who has just witnessed his shradh, aur kitna prayashchit?Today was a day which was very unfair to Saras, as if no one except Kusum ( ducking chappals) even acknowledges his pain anymore, sabko apni apni padi hai!
Arshi & Shrija, thanks for steering me towards the sequence, after all... Arshi ji, if I may, and to all, filmmaking is not 'clinical'... Techniques and emotions go hand-in-hand, I would urge people not to lose or disregard your natural empathy towards characters whilst you analyse from a director's chair. Because the directors and writers never lose their empathy, or they will be unable to create romance, pathos and magic, which they do š³
Liked the Saras-Dugba convo. Poignant use of word - Mukti.
Pramad ko muft mein credit uthha ke hi sukoon milta hai. Highlighted BD's hypocrisy, Pramad's incompetence, Kumud's opportunistic facet (Saras provided, she used) and Navins' intelligence (brains). The way AT smiled seemed like he was going through a forced root canal. SD standing to the side like the murti of stupidity... Grinning, content to believe everything at face-value, content with shifting credit, lying by omission or just plain, lying. Special mention to the word/name that heralded the sequence - 'Saras'... A name that still RESONATES, chahe lakh obliterate kar lo š
Saras-Kumud scene. Placement, opposite right through. She came, sat, she did not even register on him. She keeps on looking at him. He doesn't return her gaze. This has signalled their break'... Kumud's first lines (3:36), so ironic - I can understand. In the next few seconds (4:09), she will have proved her starting sentiments, hollow. Again, only Saras in Close up, Kumud is not internalized, so we are not meant to assume her POV here... At the 4-plus-mark, Kumud 'dismisses'... With a coquettish giggle no less... Then she goes on and on about Pramad like she and Saras are besties, gossiping about boys and fashion, and not that he is a man who has just been made to witness his own death ceremony... Saras is a traumatized person, from childhood, and trauma never goes away... It is kept repressed and then it gets triggered... Today would have impactly greatly upon Saras' psyche, today he kept it in except for that one line... 'Repression'... Wait for the 'trigger' now. She says 'Thank you' and still, he does not react. This has been about Kumud's 'fifth gaze' at Saras, which has been 'thwarted'... What Saras said: Shukriya kiska, Navin ka ya Saras ka? Kyunki Saraswatichandra ka shraadh ho chuka hai... That was the truth coming outta his mouth. Unchecked, uncensored. The thali falls, snaps him out of his reverie, that is when for the first time in the scene that he actually looks at her. And right away berates himself, why, did he put himself first, why did he put his extreme hurt before her chota sa happiness? How dare he word that truth out? That is where the scene cuts because the point has been made i.e. The 'take-away.'
The difference between Saras and Kumud is stark-clear. She is callous and will reduce him to coals, and he will rake himself over coals, if she feels even a pinprick because of him. The negative aspect of Kumud's personality was highlighted today, Arshi ji. Not their love. Kumud has regressed into a user'... A situation made even more poignant because Saras is so willing to be 'used' - his intelligence, his ideas, his support... Even that smiley... Her drawing it again, could be considered re-tracing, but it could also denote Kumud's independency from Saras now. And the havan logs still remain - another signifier for Kumud's awaiting fate, orchestrated by Pramad. In a nutshell, that scene and the take-away from it... Kumud is callous, she is selfish. In every equation, there is a taker and a giver... Who is what, in the Saras-Kumud equation - was made crystal today.
Then, as soon as both Saras-Kumud finally have an eyeline match, Pramad interrupts. Telling much? Their connect was not in evidence today, Arshi ji. Because the gaze was not returned and when it was fleetingly returned, it was interrupted. Today, also showed how much Saras' mahaanta is breaking him, his soul from within, and how he hides that, for Kumud's sake. Mukti, impossible. It also showed that Kumud has probably forgotten that Saras is a man who hurts, bleeds and cries. She is willing to walk over Saras' heart, emotions, his remains even in her journey to Pramad. Her love is the sort of love that will only display itself when Saras actually bleeds... She is the kind who will pull the trigger herself, then run to him as he falls to beat her arms on his chest. Brutal, but true. So let's ready ourselves for the 'break', all...
P.S. Arshi ji, thali fell and everything scattered. What does that connote, in terms of hindu ceremony rituals?
