It was revived by Jatin Lalit to some extent, AR Rahman and of course Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. With "Kuch kuch hota hain" and others, Jatin Lalit brought melody back. Shankar-E-L brought back lovely beats and orchestration which complemented Shankar's extraordinary voice.

Agreed 100%...there is absolutely no way the revival should be credited to Himesh. I like his music but he's just a part of the upward trend, not it's cause.

Himeshji concentrates a lot in his singing and is completely absorbed. He and Adnan seem to have something in common, a lot of showmanship to sweep young ladies off their feet.😉

Thanks for the update and info. But I read somewhere that Himeshji revived the dying Bollywood industry with his songs which were like the sacred Mantras bring back the dead to life.😉

Maybe he was one of the sages who kicked the industry back to life. But Mika claimed that Himeshji copied his singing. But Mika sang so badly, wonder how he became a singer? Hope none of you are related to him.😊

Punjini, I also feel that Sanu was a decent singer but he had the best songs. However I totally disagree with you aboiut your opinion on that period. For me the best music of Hindi movies (in my life) has come in late 80's to about 1994-1995. At that time there was not much media or TV channels, not all the net and fancy stuff but the music was great. Each year in the late 80's and 90's you will see the filmfare award for MD & singers was the most closely fought.

The great hits like QSQT, MAine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke hain Kaun, Aashiqui, Phir teri kahani yaad aayi, Baazigar, Deewana, Saajan, Sadak, Tridev, Phool Aur Kante, Pardes, Dilwale, Rangeela, DDLJ, I can go on and on. That was the golden period.

Infact if you see the all time highest selling albums in movie history, 7 of the top 10 are movies between 1988 to 1995. Which speaks volumes of that era.

I like some songs from some the albums listed here, but I don't think they were classics...btw, Pardes shouldn't be on this list. I believe it released in 1997. I disagree that this was a golden period. That was about 30 years prior to the era we are discussing.

Anyway, I personally feel that the early 90's were not as bad as the entire 80's decade was. I can't believe the awful movies and music that were being churned out during that time. However, Umrao Jaan, Bazaar, Nikaah and QSQT are some exceptions.
