Suhana, I agree that its not the absolute golden period but if you read my post carefully I have said its the golden period for me in my Life. I have grown up on the music in 80's 90's and now 2000's.
But if you say all time Golden era then for me it would be 60's and 70's for sure.

However in my life span, my fav period for music was late 80's and early 90's (1988 to 1995). Plus as I said there are 7 albums from this period in the all time category which speaks volumes.

The period of 1980's was an era of bad movies and bad music (maybe until 1988).

I understand what you're saying. There are many good songs from that period. However, I don't know if the fact that 7 albums from that period are in the all time best sellers really is a good indicator, because prior to this time, people weren't able to listen to music in their cars, and albums were probably more expensive (relatively). So I think there were other reasons for 60's-80's albums not selling as much.

Punjini, I also feel that Sanu was a decent singer but he had the best songs. However I totally disagree with you aboiut your opinion on that period. For me the best music of Hindi movies (in my life) has come in late 80's to about 1994-1995. At that time there was not much media or TV channels, not all the net and fancy stuff but the music was great. Each year in the late 80's and 90's you will see the filmfare award for MD & singers was the most closely fought.

The great hits like QSQT, MAine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke hain Kaun, Aashiqui, Phir teri kahani yaad aayi, Baazigar, Deewana, Saajan, Sadak, Tridev, Phool Aur Kante, Pardes, Dilwale, Rangeela, DDLJ, I can go on and on. That was the golden period.

Infact if you see the all time highest selling albums in movie history, 7 of the top 10 are movies between 1988 to 1995. Which speaks volumes of that era.

You are free to disagree but it is clear that you are not too familiar with music from what is often called the Golden Era of Hindi Film Music - the 50s and 60s and part of 70s. Such was the concentration of good music in those times that exemplary music directors like Madan Mohan and C Ramchandra got few awards and each award was so closely fought. As for comparing the quality of that music and lyrics with the '80s, sorry, I won't even try.

In those days, radio was the chief medium of listening to music, very few could buy albums, so there's no point arguing about best-selling albums.

Though I was not yet born during the first 2 decades of the Golden Era, I have managed to hear its songs like many others on this forum. After hearing the best, if I am asked to like the mediocre, it is just not possible.

Frankly good music is a matter of personal choice and preference. Some of the old songs are so horrible and terrible that I do not enjoy at all. But I prefer most of the songs they sang during the SRGMP 07 episodes. Maybe it is due mainly to better accoustics. But music can only get better I think.😆

Punjini and Suhana, I am an ardent fan of Rafi and Mukesh. I would not want to boast of my knowledge on the songs from the golden era and so would request you not to judge me on that.
I have time and again said that the period i refer to is the Golden period from my life span to date.

With regards to the point that the music of 50's to 70's was the best, I agree. However about the best selling albums, yes I agree that in 50-70's the medium was radio. However if you see in the last 10 years, the market has grown by 300% and the number of listeners are much more. You also have global markets which were not there upto about 10 years ago. So when you compare today's music scene with that of the early 90's, it should be today's music which should have the numbers. However thats not the case. So when you mention above that today's music scenario is much better and there is a revolution, I do not agree.
If you compare music now and the music from the period I mention, I will surely say that music from late 80's and early 90's was much better.
Please dont take my comments out of context and compare it with some other era, which I am not even refering to.

Listening to too much old songs you become a Grand Mother and will become depressed easily. Just to stick to your favourite Himeshji for the time being and get ready for your upcoming movie ' Himeshji and the Camel".😆

I am unable to follow. When did I say that today's music scenario is better and that there is a revolution? 😕

Also, what figures are you talking about when you say that today's music does not have the numbers?

Who decides what is in context? You said something about Kumar Sanu and I said I associate him with a certain era - so the context is clear enough.
