Dear Friends,

One singer who's songs I have sort of grown up on during myschool/college days (now please dont try guessing my age) has been Kumar Sanu. Initially when Sanu entered the industry he was seen as a Kishore Ape but made a good living out of it since he did many re-recorded versions of Kishor da. Then slowly he began carving his own identity and was like a Hit Machine (Comparable only to HR's success since his songs were hit one after the other). The movie that turned his life was 'Aashiqui' (which is the biggest album in India to date) and then he went on to become a great singer with 5 Filmfare's in a row, 28 songs recorded in a day and many accolades followed. Sanu & Udit ruled the music scene but Sanu always did better commercially & with the awards (like Martina Navratilova& Chris Evert).

Some of his great songs which I would like to hear on SRGMP or Idol or VOI or any damn show are -

1) Tere dar par sanam chale aaye// Badlon mein chup raha hai chand kyon(Phir teri kahani yaad aayi)

2) Dheere Dheere se meri zindagi main aana // Ab tere bin jeelenge hum // Zaane Jigar Jaane Man // Nazar Ke saamne jigar ke paas(Aashiqui)

3) Sochenge tumhe pyaar kare ke nahin // Payali (Deewana)

4) Sambhala Hai maine bahut apne dil ko (Naraaz)

5) Humko sirf tumse pyaar hai (Barsaat)

Also All songs from Saajan, Pardes (Meri Mehbooba, Do dil), Baazigar. Are there any others which you can think of ??

i am a fan of kumar sanu as well. i loved his songs from bekhudi, rang, sainik, mashooq, balma, baazigar, naaaz, deewana, sanam, pyar ka saaya, salaami, khuddar aashiqi, andolan, aao pyar kare, tadipaar, sapne sajan ke and so on. he has a great voice. i hope he becomes popular again like he was in 90's. for me 90's songs were the best songs of bollywood.

Kumar Sanu - I liked him best in Do Dil Mil Rahein Hai (Pardes) and Kuch Na kaho (1942 - a Love story)

He's a good singer, but I personally liked the joy in Udit Narayan's voice more.

Never liked Sanu much. I will associate him with what I consider the period of worst music in Hindi films - the late 80s and early 90s.

Reemji, you have sharp ears. I listened to Harpreet as you suggested and yes he does come close to Kumar Sanu. VS compared Harpreet with Mussarat and said that Mussarat has an explosive element, but unfortunately Muss was not so consistent overall because certain song types was not his cup of tea. 😆

harpreet sang one of his..jeelenge hum

Thaks Ripi, yes this was a very good performance. He has performed very well in several songs. He is a serious singer and was together with Raja, unfortunately he was also slightly overshadowed and overlooked in a way. Voice quality I think Harpreet is just as good or better, but Raja has a very high energy level and has a voice that is not so common.

After the 90s the music industry was revived by Himeshji in the 2000 period.

Chitraji,

Thanks for the info.

Yes I should listen to it. He has a lot of talent and a certain magic in the voice.😉
