i never said the kids r to blame. but i do understand the psychology that is at play behind their taste in music. wat u said abt the radio and all is ABSOLUTELY correct! there r a whole host of factors that r to blame in this issue, but just blaming the system is not doing much. we need to start rectifying the problem somewhere right?
Seema ji ,i'm not saying anything targetting u ,just in general .

When the music industry is drenched in item numbers at a club with girls wearing revealing clothing, devoid of melody, copying others, and nothing but SHOR (noise) being accepted as music, how can anyone use "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" as a platform to join in this field?
I might sound idealist but I still think that there is a market out there who appreciate quality music. If these singers truly 'wanted' to be singers, they should make a difference. I dont think that all of them are going to end up singing for the kind of music coming out today. I mean for every Tom Dick and Harry, Shaadi se Pehle, Shaadi No. 1, there is an Umar, a Rang De Basanti, a Banaras.. point being that, yes there are less oppurtunities for producing good music, but see the ones who carve a new and a successful path for themselves are who are going to remembered (hopefully)
As yourselves everyone: WHO IS AT FAULT?1. IS IT THE PUBLIC?
Public is too broad a term to define, and to say that you like one particular kind of music is also hard too. I mean leave aside teh purists, we like to hear ghazals when we are just sitting down and reading, we would like to listen to peppy dance numbers when we are dancing. I am against videos that are revealing, but what happens in a club is a different story altogether. As far as its not shown on the screen I think its fine. Its about choice then. See,what irritates me, Helen ji used to do cabaret dance and yes she is a great actress and apparently she used to use skin cloth and never really exposed the fact is, it was on celluloid. Recently I was watching one of her movies and she was pretty explicit too. Why is she being revered so much today?I mean if exposing is a sin, she commited a huge sin. R K films all had exposure, why wasnt the issue raised then? I mean its a side track, but exposure, s*x, has always been part of cinema, directly or indirectly. Unfortunately, today it has reached a stage when it has grown out of hands. Its like taht here in NA, Indians in the mad urge to ape the west in 'all' aspects forget that 'all' should be just 'good'..
Also commenting about the people buying the audios, I guess its to do with both. Videos can leave a drastic impact in your mind and since most of the youth buy the cassetes, they would prefer listening to music like this. Give them Kishore's songs, you are bound to get a reply like 'Yo man, heard this in Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar'! So sadly thats the state.. which has to be changed and again brings me back to, SOME1 has to take the first move.. why did Himesh work, because people were tired of the same ghisi phiti songs.. it became rountine.. again Classical music should make a comeback in such a way that it will take nation by the storm.2. IS THE MUSIC DIRECTORS?
Kishore ji, as i said above, you are a purist and so are a lot of people in India and indians abroad. But the point is, how many 22 year olds today appreciate such music. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and the topic came to Morning Raga, she was like movie was interesting, the music was just awful, what the hell were they singing?! I got so mad with her for saying 'hell' to songs likeThaaye Yashoda, Mahaganapathim. And she has learnt music! Even for such people, classical isn't appealing. So sorry to say you are one among the few.. fortunately, I belong there too but I am balancing between both music! As much as I enjoy a Jiya Dhadak Dhadak, I enjoy an Aadat remix 😆!
I think Music Directors aren't also to be blamed, they have to produce music for two things
a. movie story
b. audiences
Take RDB, the music wasn't taht great if just heard individually. But it made so much sense with the movie. Sometimes, music is just made for the audiences when there is no story! like ABA, Shaadi se Pehle, Shaadi No. 1, sometimes it works like Himesh charm and sometimes it doesnt!
Today unfortunately, music is a business.. its about earning .How many music directors make music because they want to make a difference? hardly a few.. its all about getting people to buy your album and your sales going high.
I just wish, sum1 would take the risk..its asking too mich but more music like Dil se, bombay, morning raaga, saathiya even..it will make a small difference..
have to dash now..to be continued..3. FILM DIRECTORS???
Do you think that a film story with cheap story lines or something vulgar will continue to survive? Will royalities come for them with they retire? Movies, for the most part, entertain audiences usually for something the viewer can relate to (cultural differences in Pardes), or wish to relate to (love from Mohabbatein), something informative (Bhagat Singh films), or just something to relax and have a good time (some Govinda film). I understand that the film "Kaliyug" (I haven't watched, btw) was to expose po*nography. However, from the previews, it appears to be a bit too extmeme. Will these things survive?
4. IS IT GAJENDRA SINGH VS. SONY??
Quite possibly. If GS really cared about the quality of his show, he'd cut those disputable things out like the walkout, mentors arguing over some petty matters, Vinit's love-story, too much dwelling in contestant's lives, Sharib's behavior, Vishwas's outburts, and Vishwanath's remarks. If he has no control to retain the quality of his show, then SRGMP will remain forgettable and true music lovers that I have had the fortune to meet in this forum, will hanker for good music or old tapes and recordings of old SRGM when Sonu Nigam was the host or maybe the early episodes when Shaan was the host!
Do you think Fame Gurukul's reality show format elicited this?
(sighs) I said what I have to say.
As Mahendra Kapoor sang in the film "Yaadgaar" (1970)
"mandir se log ghabarate hain, har raat club mein jaate hai
lo bhakti bhajan sab bhool gaye, aur filmi gaane gaate hai
jab dharm nahin, aur sharm nahin, koi acha karm nahin to phir uska baad.
(ektara noises)
ektara bole tun tun tun tun tun..."😆 (lighter side)

What I don't like about the kids nowadays is the dismissive attitude towards whatever is 'OLD'. They look at black & white songs and say "Oh it is so old" and change the channel. 😡 But remix is liked because it is 'new'.
Punjini ji plzz let us not generalize "kids nowadays" i happen to be one of them and prefer old songs ANY DAY over those obscene remixes. and partly we as a society have failed in instilling those values and liking for good music in our kids, right?
