This degradation is quite universal I think, not just confined to Hindi films or TV programmes. Hollywood has gone the same way.

Everything has got diluted. Look at language for instance. My mother recollects that people used to speak fairly good Hindi/Urdu in Delhi. It was a pleasure to listen to people from UP. Over the years, the Zee TV kind of Hindi became predominant. Sample this sentence, "I want to say ki main bahut sorry feel kar raha hoon".

The degradation of music is too obvious to be even stated. Earlier, one could debate endlessly on which MD was the best. Now the debate is about who is the worst. I hear NOISE everywhere. No music.

I would blame all the factors you have mentioned - public, directors, MDs etc. The whole system has been corrupted.

But everything goes through a cycle. There are peaks and troughs. So I hope that we will come out of this trough one day.

Ditto Punjini 👏

You know saregama/Saregamapa was one of the very few programs where the whole family could sit down together and watch without any problem. But nowa days can you imagine listening to a song like "I want to make love to you" while your grandpa is sitting right next to you!!I am not saying sexy songs did not exist before. But if this is a family medium, why not select songs that can be heard universally. And I wonder if there is a "sexy "round in Ek mein aur ek tu.. what the couples are expected to do.. 🤢

Commercialism and the influences of western media.

Quantity is more important than quality, so that's why we end up with meaningless tunes.

Again, the perception of what is western, and what is cool influences the young public, and MDs try to target this audience. With the new generation trying harder and harder to get away from our culture, their appreciation for quality music is also affected. I don't know if there is a solution, but we can only hope that , if we as parents intorduce our kids to good music while theey're young, and be in touch with our culture, they can appreciate it evn in their later years. Culture enriches our lives.

KBji, I have said in my earlier posts in this forum, from the time I've seen the walkout of the three contestants in Challenge '05, I don't get the same satisfaction as I used to get when watching SRGM when Sonu used to host the show. I had a little hope that after seeing all the mess that happened in Challenge '05, Gaj Singh will go back to the old format of SRGM, which was a 100% musical show. But alas! it got worse than before. I don't enjoy this show anymore. I just wish GS realizes his mistakes, stop all this dramas, performance, makeup/getup and makes this show again a truly musical show.

it all comes down to money! he doesn't care if talent and cultural values r being insulted. he has gotten the chance of selling his wares on national TV and like a politician he will exploit us the viewers and our feelings to work in his favour. but what he doesn't get is that his audience has been with him for long, ever since those days that didn't have glamour and they r all music lovers. this new perversion of music and culture will be rejected by his old audience.
