Another of my all-time greats....Rafi and Lata....Dev and Vaijayanti Mala...
Dil Pukarey...aa rey aa rey
Abhi na ja mere saaathi...

I vaguely remember the picturisation...but I remember the START of the song quite clearly: Dev and Vaiajayanti on some hill-top...The camera closes-up on the feet of the protagonists...Vaijayanti's feet are raised....then with the "Sitar" strings trumming that beautiful tune....the camera captures Vaijayanti Mala's putting her left wrist to her mouth...a classic Bollywood post-kiss gesture....and then the duet begins!

This song situation is quite similar to the song "Banke panchhi gaaye pyaar ka tarana mil jaaye agar aaj koi saathi mastana" in Anari where a bevy of beautiful girls are cycling along and having fun. Nutan looks gorgeous in a simple salwar kameez. Of course the song ends with the girls colliding with Raj Kapoor. 😊

Vaijanthimala also reminds me of 'Dil tadap tadap ke de raha hai yeh sadaa' from Madhumati... Lovely song, great music by Salil'da.. and ultimate romace between Dilip saab and Vaijanthimala..

ADji...haan yaar....that song is also very good...my only allergy is RK....kya karuun.....but still, the song IS a classic....(by the way..I like SOME of his numbers but don't prefer Mukesh as well....)...Log to mujey pagala hi karar dengey lekin....pasand apni apni right ?

That song's so....sweet, actually.

Another Vaijayanthi Mala classic is the Sangam song, Bol Radha Bol Sangam Hoga Ke Nahin. She looks slurrrrrrppp in that Bikini and RK as always looks like the lovable fool

All of Madhumati's songs were superby filmed courtesy my favourite Bimalda.

Remember Jungle me mor naacha kisine na dekha? Johny Walker is so CUTE! In "Dil tadap tadap" what I like is that both Dilip and Vyji convey romance without even holding hands or any body contact! Beautiful!

Yaar ek to yeh 'ji' lagana chodo please...i am only 19!!!

I personally adore Mukesh. He's the first singer I actually listened to seriously from the Golden Era. Dad sings his songs superbly...erm...dad can be called a fantastic mukesh clone, but with a better voice😃. Dad used to sing his songs day in and day out. He sang Aa Laut ke Aaja at his Lab's function last year...the people were mesmerised to say the least.

Mukesh was a singer, whose 901 songs were hits, out of his recorded 990 in Hindi. Speaks volumes about the composers and the songs they gave him...and his hand in making them hits.

Which was that song where Vaijayanthi's ankles are shown prancing around behind the trees and Dilip's singing a song? The movement of the barefooted legs was superbly filmed by Bimalda.

It's either dil tadap tadap or ghadi ghadi mera dil dhadke. Have to see Madhumati again to check. 😊

Ek aur chulbula gaana yaad aa raha hai....
Sharmila Tagore...Dharmendra (this guy looked hunksy handsome in his prime)..Om Prakash and who was Om Prakash's wife...the famous actress of 50's....haan yaad aya...Usha Kiron...

Ab key Sajan Sawan mein....aag lagegi chaman mein...

This song was beautifully filmed with Sharmila wanting to romance with her husband Dharmendra but cannot as Dharmji is parading as a "Driver" to Om Prakash.
Dharamji ney Om Prakash ki naaq mein dum kar diya tha iss movie mein...Visualise..Sharmila singing the song in one corner of a room...Dharmji squeeqing her hands...Om Prakash who cannot see Dharamji beyond the corner...gets suspicious...quietly walks in from behind sharmila...but Dharmji has already run up the stairs and Om Prakash feels satisifed...what subtle acting!
SB Burman churning out a fantastic score again and again and again!! The guy was a genious whaaaat!

Here's one more. "Bhor aayee gaya andhiyaara" from Bawarchi. Rajesh Khanna starts singing this while washing utensils (he is a bawarchi). I love the way in which the entire family collects in the central courtyard one by one to add their voices to the song. Even Harindranath Chattopadhyay the grand old man joins in his unique voice. Asrani sings in Kishore's voice (I think), "Happy days are coming". The whole song is very spontaneous!

Sensitivity to khair zyada nahin hai.

Main jab se chota tha, kaafi musical mahaul mein pala-bada hoon. My tauji was a huge fan of Suraiyya, Gurdaas Maan, Reshma etc. Their songs used to be blaring out of our vafadaar tape-recorder day in and day out. And also the carnatic greats like U.Srinivas, Maharajapuram Santanam, MS, BMK etc. I am a bangalorean, actually. My chacha would go around the whole house singing only 3 songs - Dil Ke Armaan aansuon mein beh gaye, naam gum jayega (that too the antara only...waqt ke sitam), and mere mehboob qayamat hogi 😆 😆 . Dad, as I said, would keep singing Mukesh's and Rafi's songs. My granny would make us cousins sit and listen to her when she used to sing the Vishnu Sahasranama or the Suprabhatam. My dad and Chacha have the habit of reciting the vedas every morning during their bath and toilettle routine. It was pumped into me that today's music is noise, and one should learn to appreciate our Indian Music in all its majesty, beauty, complexity and grandeur. My parents are very strict. Maybe that's why I am drawn more towards the softer, lyrical and musically rich songs of yesteryears. 😊
