Sensitivity to khair zyada nahin hai.
Main jab se chota tha, kaafi musical mahaul mein pala-bada hoon. My tauji was a huge fan of Suraiyya, Gurdaas Maan, Reshma etc. Their songs used to be blaring out of our vafadaar tape-recorder day in and day out. And also the carnatic greats like U.Srinivas, Maharajapuram Santanam, MS, BMK etc. I am a bangalorean, actually. My chacha would go around the whole house singing only 3 songs - Dil Ke Armaan aansuon mein beh gaye, naam gum jayega (that too the antara only...waqt ke sitam), and mere mehboob qayamat hogi 😆 😆 . Dad, as I said, would keep singing Mukesh's and Rafi's songs. My granny would make us cousins sit and listen to her when she used to sing the Vishnu Sahasranama or the Suprabhatam. My dad and Chacha have the habit of reciting the vedas every morning during their bath and toilettle routine. It was pumped into me that today's music is noise, and one should learn to appreciate our Indian Music in all its majesty, beauty, complexity and grandeur. My parents are very strict. Maybe that's why I am drawn more towards the softer, lyrical and musically rich songs of yesteryears. 😊
