On Indian television, few roles come with as much reverence and pressure as portraying a goddess. These characters don’t just test an actor’s craft, they often leave a lasting imprint on how the audience remembers them. Over the years, several actresses have stepped into these divine avatars, earning admiration that sometimes shaped their careers forever. But what paths did they choose once the glittering aura of mythological shows faded?
Mouni Roy- Devi Sati

Mouni Roy first captured national attention as Sati/Parvati in Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev. Her serene performance established her as a household name. Rather than staying confined to mythological roles, she transitioned into mainstream cinema and OTT. Today, she juggles films like The Bhootnii and more. Mouni’s journey shows how a mythological breakthrough can serve as a launchpad into diverse arenas.
Sonarika Bhadoria – Maa Parvati

Sonarika also donned the mantle of Goddess Parvati in the same show and became instantly beloved. After the applause and recognition, her trajectory turned more personal. She tied the knot with businessman Vikas Parashar and recently announced her pregnancy. Though she steps away from television projects for now, she continues to be remembered fondly for her divine portrayal.
Pooja Sharma-Mahakali:

Pooja Sharma became iconic as Draupadi in Mahabharat and later as Mahakali. Known for her expressive performances, she balanced poise with intensity. The actress has been away from television screens for a while now and her fans have been eagerly awaiting her comeback.
Shivya Pathania as Maha Lakshmi:

Shivya Pathania has steadily built her career around mythological dramas. She has played Sita in Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush, Radha in Radha Krishna and continues to be cast in devotional shows including her last show Laxmi Narayan. Shivya has openly spoken about her attraction to these roles, citing their grandeur and moral depth.
Mallika Singh as Radha Rani

Mallika Singh rose to fame as Radha in RadhaKrishn. Over the course of the show, she portrayed several other divine forms too, including Lakshmi, Sita, and Ashtalakshmi. The role defined her early career and made her instantly recognisable. After the show she returned with Colors TV's Pracchand Ashok. However, the show failed to meet audience expecatations. The actress since then has been away from Television.
Debina Bonnerjee as Devi Sita:

Debina Bonnerjee became a household name with her portrayal of Sita in Ramayan. The role won her a loyal fan following, but it also came with a challenge—audiences began expecting her only in virtuous or divine roles. To push against this, she later took up darker and fantasy characters, including in Vish. These days, Debina is focused on motherhood, raising two young daughters with actor husband Gurmeet Choudhary. She has also been constant with her youtube and Instagram content and is currently seen in Colors TV's Pati Patni Aur Panga.
Devoleena Bhattacharjee as Chhathi Maiyya:

Devoleena Bhattacharjee, widely recognized from her role in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, took on the role of Chhathi Maiyya in the show Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya. Her portrayal emphasized the nurturing and protective aspects of the goddess, who plays a key role in the life of an orphaned girl. Owing to her pregnancy, the actress took a break from the show and is currently busy raising her son Joy.
Gracy Singh as Santoshi Maa:

Gracy Singh made a graceful return to television by portraying the divine role of Santoshi Maa in the devotional series Santoshi Maa Sunayein Vrat Kathayein. Known for her calm presence and expressive acting, she brought warmth and serenity to the character, who guides her devotees through spiritual challenges and rituals. Gracy has been away from television for a while now.
The actresses who once played goddesses have taken varied routes, some transitioned into films, some explored reality shows, while others continue to be the strong anchors of devotional storytelling on TV. What binds them together is the lasting impact of their goddess portrayals. These characters are not just roles but legacies, ones that audiences continue to cherish long after the shows have ended.
