Not too sure, but i do remember reading something like this 😳

Very true. Many of Salilda's compositions have been used by him in Bengali/Malayalam/Hindi films.
Offhand I remember 'Jeyte Jeyte..(Bengali/Hemant Kumar)/ Koi hota jisko apna(Hindi-KK)" and "Ejbon..(Bengali-Hemantkumar)/Haal chaal thika thak hai(Hindi-Manna Dey & others)"

yaar yeh topic to ab diwana kar dega....kya ek ek aces nikal rehay hain patli gali sey...!!
Punjini ji...I like your insight..."kya hum parawanon ki ek hi shama to nahi" observation and also the Joy mukherjee one! ADji...main yaat woh Chashme Buddoor key ganon key barey mein likhney hi wala tha...you beat me to it....I liked that movie too..

But would also like to mention some of my favourite chulbula numbers....
1. Aaaj rrapat jaye to hamey na uthaiyo!! Remember ? Amitabh and Smitie Baby completely drenched to the bone! A very sensuous score from Bappi Lahiri....

2. Kehna....Kehna....kya ? Kehna....meri pyari Bindu....meri binduri bindu....meri matheri bindu....meri sinduri bindu....
You know, I always maintained that Kishore Kumar thoroughly ENJOYED himself on screen....not just in this movie mind you...in totality...THAT joy came out and grabbed the viewers...This art, according to me...was achieved by Govinda....that is the reason the acting of both these stars appeared genuine...
But what songs yaar!!! aye hai.!

"Baag mein kali khili" is one of my favourites. Beautiful composition. Great music.

Someone had doubts about the singer of "Dheere dheere machal.." It's definitely Lata. Confirmed.

I COMPLETELY AGREE Punjini ji and AparnaVittalji....

But zara ek AUR ganey pey ghaur karein....how can we forget "Tu kahaaan....yeh bataaaa....iss nashili....raat mein....maney na...mera dil diwana haye rey......"

Do you remember the picturisation of this song! Lam road in Simla...The cute Dev Anand doing "house-to-house" search for his beloved!...then some angry residents....toss a coin which Dev glibly catches in his "Golf cap"....looks at the residents...amused....then tosses it back...! what direction! Then to "show" how the raat is "nashili" in black and white....the director uses the smoke-generating-machine....as if there is a dense fog in the background...."aye jab thandi hawa...mainey jo pucha jo pata...woh bhi takra key gayi aur be-chain kiya...." and Dev Anand Jumps over a small railing!....finally Nutan appears and her happy-surprise and here eloquent gesture as if it clearly said..."Arrrrey....tum....yanaaaan!" This is direction! where is all this senstivity gone yaar !!!

All the songs in that movie are well-made. What about "yeh tanhaai haai re haai, jaane phir aaye na aaye"?

Punjini ji....missed this post .... sorry for the duplication....still....the number deserves kudos....the more the merrier whaat!

There is this song "tu kahan yeh bata is nashili raat mein, maane na yeh mera dil deewana" sung by Dev Anand in "Tere ghar ke saamne".

Dev doesn't know where Nutan lives in Shimla so he goes about the whole town singing this song and peering in every window, sometimes getting shooed off, sometimes treated as a beggar or a madman by the residents. Finally he locates Nutan in her balcony and she is as thrilled as he is to see her. Beautiful picturization!

Fantastic creativity, in the 50s and 60s. Why is there a lack of it now? They say films have gotten better now. Don't agree, sorry. Except a Black here and a Parineeta there, where are movies like Pyaasa, Kagaz Ke Phool, Half Ticket, Padosan, Bandini, Tere Ghar ke Saamne, Abhimaan etc? Those were timeless classics.

And how can we ever in our lives forget Mughal-E-Azam?

That's the reason we are discussing them even now. Had today's movies been as good, we wouldn't be re-living those moments with this enthusiasm.

Haaye re woh din kyun na aaye...

Yeah....Guru Dutt was something else....and Goldie Anand....When Dev Anand took the baag-dor of direction...he messed it up royally....

But even other makers of yore were greats....but somehow..in this forum all of us seem to like the same chappies....You see.....I do not like Raj Kapoor myself (in Anil Kapoor's lingo....he was like..."yeda bankey peda khana" type of a person...in the movie his character always used to be seedha saadha/bhola bhala and he used to parade the women any which way he wanted in his movies.....according to me this was nothing but hypocracy at it's best.....i.e. be a hypocrite and be praised for it!!!

So it is quite pleasing to see that most of us here are Dev/Vijay Anand/Guru Dutt and Madhubala fans.....

THose days, they used to do all that without much technical advancement. There was a passion, a vision. Guru Dutt is my all time favourite. Next is Vijar Anand.

Talking about music, those days they didn't even have digital rectifiers. And yet such perfection in singing. Look at HR now. Uses heavy rectification in his songs.

Kya Mausam change ho gaya Dilli Ka, zabardast barish hui ek ghante tak, with strong winds and lightening. Mazaa aagaya, fortunately I reached just 5 min before it started pouring. 😊

Yeh gaana yaad aa raha hai,

"Yeh Raatein Yeh Mausam Nadi Ka Kinara Yeh Chanchal Hawa"

😊
