Kantara: Chapter 1 is racing towards the Rs 400 crores mark at the box office. Rishab Shetty’s movie has been hailed as a technical marvel with critics/fans loving the forest scenes and recreation of a lost era. Gulshan Devaiah and Rukmini Vasanth too are getting a lot of appreciation from the audience. Kantara: Chapter 1 is set in Tulu belt, which is the Mangalore region of Karnataka. We saw how some people came dressed as Daiva at the theatres, and even did the dance. Guliga and Panjurli are the daivas of Tululand holding immense sanctity for people of the region.
Hombale Films have issued a statement requesting people not to make reels on Daiva worship in theatres or other public spaces. We saw a few videos of people dressing up in the costume and doing the dance. It had reportedly upset elderly members of the Tulu community.

Fans said that makers made a full movie on the God and traditions of the land. They said this disclaimer should have come before the movie released. Some said it would be a good idea if Rishab Shetty put out a small video message on the same. They said Yakshagaana is an art form and can be performed. A clip of a dancer from a theatre had gone viral all over.
Kantara: Chapter 1 is getting huge love from celebs. KL Rahul praised the movie for showing the beauty of Tululand and highlighting folk culture. Anupam Kher posted a video after watching Kantara: Chapter 1 saying how his entire family loved it. Ram Gopal Varma’s post for Rishab Shetty on X went viral for his colourful language. Sandeep Reddy Vanga said that Kantara is a cinematic masterpiece and first of its kind for Indian cinema. He applauded the vision of Rishab Shetty and said it was a one-man show.
