Oh yes, Half Ticket! How could one forget that Salilda was the composer and worked with Kishore? That, in my opinion is the most hilarious movie I have seen in my life. Kishore has gone simply berserk in that! And I simply can't believe it was not a hit in its time. It's even funnier that Chalti ka naam gaadi. Just the movie to watch when one is down in the dumps.

Long back, in the earlier version of Saregama when Sonu Nigam was the host, pictures of all singers were pasted on the wall in the background. When Anil Biswas was invited to be a judge, he pointed out that Talat Mehmood's potrait was missing, and this had hurt his sensibilities a lot. Then from the next episode onwards, Talat's portrait was included. I can understand how Anil Biswas felt about a man who sang "Shaam-e-gham ki kasam".

👏👏thanx for that info. its very heart warming to see that some music directors have so much respect for the singers.

If you start listing Rafi's unforgettable songs, you will need pages and pages! And it's impossible to actually put one song above the other.

The pity for this generation of singers is that such high standards have already been set in the golden era. They will always be compared to Rafi, Kishore, Lata, Asha etc.

In the forum on restructuring SRGMP for 2006, some people have suggested that there should be a round in which original songs composed by mentors should be sung by contestants. This would enable judges to hear a song without a bias (otherwise judges would unavoidably compare the contestant with the original song by Rafi or whoever).

Ok Vipul.. take a moment picture this.. Kishore wasnt there at all. Now think about Aradhana, Mere jeevan saathi, Gambler, Hum kisise kam nahin, Safar, Yaadon ki baraat and try to fit in Rafi in any of the kishore songs!!!

Its never about one being better than other.. its always everybody has their moments when they touch us. They dont have to be felt equally like Kishore never had as soulful numbers but he did sing those in Safar and mere jeevan saathi.. If you notice carefully Kishore+RD combination infact was responsible for Rafi getting the back seat..in 70's All said everybody has their preferences. as far as I am concerned I hold both of them in high esteem..they are both my favorites...

yes, I believe the no. of songs that rafi has sung is much much more than kk. and he has sung songs of all genres and all the mds of his time. no. of kk's memorable songs are not as many as rafi's but he definitely also had a very good range.

Among the songs sung by both Rafi and Lata, the Rafi version has gained more popularity, probably because Rafi endows the song with that something "extra" which Lata could not.

The songs are:
Teri aankhon ke siva duniya mein rakha kya hai
O mere shaahekhubaan
Mere mehboob
Waadiya mera daman

Lata used to sing in a very high pitch to match Rafi. I am sure it must have been more tiring for her to sing with Rafi!

Punjini I agree with you there are many more songs where Rafi has excelled over Lata. You said 'Rafi endowed that something 'extra' I am realy curious and eager to know from other readers as well as to what exactly the little 'EXTRA' is. Knowing that Lata is the singer of highest calibre among females, She too could deliver that little extra what did she lack or what did Rafi added that Lata could not.

There are 2 more song that comes to mind
Awaaz deke mujhe tum bulaao
&nbs p;
Kabhi raat din hum door thhe, din raat ka ab saath hai

Infact it was upto the MD to decide who the song is focussed on... In every OPN song Asha outplayed Rafi.. in a duet.

Rafi's songs in bin maa ke bacche, laila majnu, were pathetic.. somebody said he was 54 then.. Lata sang Dil to pagal hai - she was around 70..

Now this discussion is getting too much of personal preferences and just to prove my point for KK and Lata I dont want to recount bad songs of rafi... since I like all 3 of them...each of them had their moments..I found them equally good...unless I am comparing apples to oranges...Rafi couldnt do "Roop tera mastana" and kk couldnt do a "o duniya ke rakhwale...!!!!

It is too much to say that in every song of OPN ,asha outplayed Rafi. I do not agree.

Lata sang at 70 in Dil to pagal hai.. agree,.. but do not you think her voice sweetness is gone too! Listen to Bholi si surat.. and you will know what I am talking about.
