Punjini, Mukesh wasn't classically untrained. He was definitely trained. Otherwise, how could he have pulled off Sangeet Samrat Tansen?

Yes, Salilda did miss out on KK.

I liked Mukesh voice too but I think he had a very short range.

If you listen to Jhoomti chali hawa, at the end of the song Mukesh's voice cracked when he tried his best to go on high pitch.

idiot Ganja, how dare he miss out on Talat?😡😡😡

Talat's my top favourite with Rafi. Shaam-E-Gham ki Qasam is a masterpiece. Khayyam's composition. Khayyam did a lot of Ghazal albums with Talat...each ghazal is a delight to listen to. Perfect diction, perfect throw, perfect emotion...perfect sur!

about 15-20 yrs ago, there was a program dedicated to Talat on Doordarshan, Sunday afternoon, Program was titled Shaam E gham ki kasam. From that day I was hooked onto Talat for about 5 yrs. (I used to be a fan of Samantha Fox and Madonna before that, so I can understand people's attraction to HR😆)

I have to thank Talat's Sham-E-gham-ki Kasam for this

just wanted to share

No, Mukesh didn't have much of classical training. One of the websites dedicated to him (www.singermukesh.com) also mentions that he was the least classically accomplished among master singers.

Frankly, Sangeet Samrat Tansen didn't require much classical training. Mostly Mukesh sang simple songs based on Yaman Kalyan such as "chandan ka badan" where he didn't have to do much of classical acrobatics. He excelled in simple, soulful singing.

punjini, i don't quite agree that the songs from Sangeet Samrat Tansen didn't require classical training. Come on, Jhoomti Chali Hawa is HECK TOUGH!

Abhi,

if SPb can pull off Shankarabharanam, why not Mukesh? Mukesh was not trained at all. I have read it in many places. That is why his songs do not see much harkatein...

I agree. I think Mukesh's voice cracked at the end of the song "Joohmti chali hawa" at high pitch. Hw was good for meduim scale songs and really suited sad songs of golden era.

Yes, Jhoomti Chali hawa was tough, but somehow it wasn't cast in a classical mould as the other Sohini that I adore "kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya".

Hmmm..I didn't know that Mere Apne was made by Salil Choudhury. There is always something new to learn about old songs!

One film Half ticket by the two is good enough for 10. One of the best KK songs filled with masti, fun and frolick.
