Agnipariksha Final 8- 16/12/05


The show began with all the participants singing the title song from "Neil n Nikki"- ok performance (can't say much about the singing as it is pre recorded).

The specials guests tonite are Diya Mirza and Kunal Ganjawala.

Theme for the day- songs from superhit films.

The first gharana which is asked to perform is Yalgaar gharana and the first singer of the day is Twinkle. We are shown a clipping on her and she becomes emotional. Twinkle sings Dhoom Macha de…from Dhoom. Her kind of song but I don't think she does justice to it. The energy required for the song is missing. Sur, tal is good but the punch is missing.

The mentometer reads 7 (AS) & 6(HR). ID asks HR why he gave 6. HR says that he did not like it, just that- a small argument. AS says that this song has been heard so much that probably the original composition is still in the mind. But she sang very well. ID says that according to him, she sang very well. HR says that he thinks ID's judgement is always better than him as he is a gunni musician and has more knowledge and if he says that she sang better he is ready to change his 6 to 10 (the scores are not changed-ofcourse). Diya says that she was so emotional just before she started singing and still sang really well, kunal also praised her performance.
Next singer to perform is Nihira and the song chosen for her (a clipping on her as well showning her college and friends) Rangeela re…from Rangeela………..sings really well. No point on commenting on her sur or tal because they are as always faultless, but she is good with the emotions, expressions…handles the western parts of the songs also really well.

The mentors give her 9 (AS) and 10 (HR). ID again questions AS and AS says that he saved it to so that ID asks the question and he can explain. He says that all of them know that Asha tai has sung this song wonderfully and Nihira sang the overlapping effect (which was created in studios) live and was very good…..he gave the last point he had saved. So she gets perfect 10. Dia and Kunal also say that she sang really well.

Debojit is the last performer from ID gharana and after the clipping of his hometown is shown, he starts singing the title song from Salaam Namaste. Not a very good rendetion, he missed the sur couple of times. The voice did sound good but singing far from good.

The mentometer gives him 6,6. ID does not ask the reason (I think he was also not too happy with his singing). Kunal is the orginal singer and says that Debojit sang it in his own style and did well.
Next gharana is Jai ho which has now only two contestants in the fray- Hema and Himani.

Hemachandra is the one who performs first (av on him as well showing people from his town rooting for him) and chooses a wonderful song- title track from Saathiya. Good singing, added a lot of harkats, very good flow- I did miss Sonu smooth singing but hema did a wonderful attempt. He sang it with lot of expressions.

The mentometer is also almost perfect. He gets 10 (HR) and 9 (ID). AS, instead of saying something, gets up and blesses him. He said that when somebody sings a song really well, rongte khade ho jatein hain. Kunal and Diya both agreed. Diya spoke to him a bit in telegu…said that his singing was so soulful and it evoked some emotions which have not been evoked since long. Kunal says that even his rongte khade ho gaye the- he really sang well (I somehow did not find it that great- yes it was very good but I think he is capable of better.)
Himani is the next performer ( the av shows her school cheering her and wishing her luck). She also chooses a wonderful song- balma…tere bin nahin jeen from Kachche dhaage. Good performance, I thought she had lot of tharaav…sang with a lot of control. Did feel that she picked up the song on a little lower note….but sang with lot of depth…..strong emotions. Very good performance….but somehow felt it a little lacking- I think the energy or the openness in the song was not there.

The mentometer gave her perfect ten. ID said that she really sang it beautifully and he hopes that she wins the final. Diya and Kunal also praise and diya said that the song had a lot of emotion.

Now the last gharana- Rock gharana.

The first contestant is Paresh and he sings the title song from Hum Tum (the Rishi Rich version)- Very mediocre performance- he has got the western pronunciation and the feel completely correct but he did lose sur in couple of places. The voice also did not sound very nice- I think he chose a wrong song- this did not highlight his strong points which is good expressions and sofy singing.

The mentors are not very happy with his performance and he gets 5 (AS) and 6 (ID).
Ujjaini from HR's gharana is the next performer and sings I wanna make love to you from Aitraaz. The song is not very good – lyrics wise but has got a catchy tune- Ujjaini sings it well (I think Himani had also sung this song in one of the earlier rounds)- this song is her kind…some western bits which suit her voice. Good expressions, I thing she was very good.

The mentors do not agree with me and she gets 7 (AS) and 6 (ID). Before HR can tell her something or defend her, she starts crying and says that she did not sing well and did not meet her mentor's expectations. Kunal and dia jump to her rescue and dia says that she made her blush in the song which is a good thing. Kunal, who has sung the song, said that it is a difficult song and he had taken two hours to record it and she sang it really well (I am glad somebody agreed with me) and should not feel bad.

The last singer for the day is Vinit and picks up the title song from Fiza. He picked up the song very well, did falter inbetween but picked up again to finish very well. He did choose a song which highlighted his voice control. I think the song has female as well as male portions and I thought he faltered wherever there were female portions but he was superb in the male portions. Overall a power packed performance by him. The end was actually superb.

The mentometer is perfect for him and he gets 10 from both the mentors. HR says Aashiq banaya apne (when will he stop repeating this line and pusing vinit so hard). ID adds hum dil de chuke sanam. (btw, throughout the show we heard Shaan as well as all the contestants using medleys of movie names to convey the message- SGMP makers please grow up- sounded ridiculous). HR said that he knows why he sang so well and from heart- and he wants to share the secret- Vinit had fallen in love, vinit is all shy and embarrassed- HR says he is not going to take the name but he loves the girl very much (I don't know why they kept on showing Himani!) ID said that he had earlier also fallen in love….(indicating Twinkle)……AS says that vinit's fav actress is also here……vinit is ofcourse blushing all this while and trying to stop HR…Diya says 'I love you' and when he does not stay anything – she says that maine to kah diya par aapne to kuch nahin kaha… Vinit says, sheepishly, 'I love you too'. He added that she looked gorgeous but not as good as his love! Some fun at the end!

The show ends with all of them singing the remix version of kajra mohabbat wala.

Theme for the day- Comedy

Guest for the day- Tushar Kapoor

The show started with all the contestants singing Munnabhai mbbs- some of them wearing the trademark white coat…..good performance- paresh and hema'voice sounded nice…girls did not have much singing to do.

(we are shown the recap of agnipariksha till date….who's gone out till now….somewhere in between)

Shaan came in with funny attire and a cap (the cap bug seem to have bitten everybody. Today the whole language is going to be bhai kind of language….bole to tapori wala (these silly things really irritate me – zee should come with some good ideas). The mentors also spoke in fulltoo style…tapkane ka bhi baat kar raila th! They were asked about their gharana's chances today. All of them of course think that their contestants were the best and should not go out. The number of votes this time are 57 lakhs and Hema's father was very very excited.



Some natak about Ujjaini not wanting to come on stage. HR goes to get her along with Vinit and Paresh. She says that she has not performed well and can't face it now. HR tells her that she has to face the results of what she has done.



The first gharana to come forward is Jai ho gharana which lost Rajiv in the last episode.

Hema and himani…himani is confident that both of them will go through to the next level. AS says that dono par Dubai wale baba ka haath hai !

Hema……yellow light and is one of the bottom three. Everybody is surprised…his father asks Shaan to check the voting again as he thinks south is voting for hema. Hema seems confident.

Himani again gets green card and her vote percentage is 14.6444. The song chosen by her is Tension kayko lene ka…sahi bolta…..she sings in her style…does well..but nothing great or very good. Her singing is flawless and the bindaas ness is there…but the comedy touch is missing. Hema joins her in the end….is very relaxed inspite of being in the yellow zone.

The next gharana is Yalgaar gharana and we have Debojit, Twinkle and Nihira.

Nihira and Debojit sail through and their percentage of votes are 15.686% and 13.323 %

Twinkle is again shown the yellow card…ID says that he is surprised as she had performed well.

Nihira chooses the song paanch rupaiya baara aana from Chalti ka naam gadi. Very good performance. She is certainly trying hard to shed her mechanical singing image….trying the kishore Yoodle bit- I really liked her performance.

Debojit sings the classic comedy song from Padosan- Ek chatur naar- again I am not impressed with his singing…tries hard but is not very good….needs to pick otherwise vinit will race ahead.

The last gharana is the Rock gharana and the contestants are Ujjaini, paresh and vinit. One of them will be in bottom three and ujjaini is very nervous.

Paresh is given the Yellow card meaning the other two are safe.

Vinit, once again gets the highest number of votes with 15.993%. Ujjaini gets 10.872.

Vinit picks up yet another kishore comedy number- aake aisi lagi….the song in which kishore sings the boy and the girl portions….vinit does really very well in the girl wala part but I thought he sang the man's potion very flat…just about singing it- no touch of comedy….very inconsistent singing I would say.

Ujjiani sings RAT rat mane chuha…. I am repeating myself but no touch of comedy here as well…just mechanical singing….very boring performance by her.

Now the bottom three….all of them perform.

Twinkle sings Mungda ..main gud ki dali…does well…good singing….but the comic touch missing hai.

Hema chooses the song..ande ka funda….i think he chose the wrong song- this did not suit his voice….surwise he is perfect…as usual adds some harkats as well …but not impressive singing.

The last singer is Paresh and he picks up a classic…sur jo tera chakraye…very good singing and performance. No problems with the singing….he included hema also in the act of champi….i think his performance was the most entertaining.

Now the results…announced by tushar -the one who has got max votes among these three is Hema – 10.548…he and his family are relieved and he says sorry to his mother to keep her in tension.

The next one is Paresh with 10.546% vote…so the one who goes out this week is Twinkle who gets 8.368% vote. She is obviously crying… HR says that paresh should think that he is lucky because he did not perform well last time but now he should be prepared to win the finals. ID says that he is shocked and ye public judgement ki haar hai…baki shows mein to besure log jeet jatein hain….and if it remains like this here as well then the judgement needs to be taken away from public because at the end they want a good singer. ID comes and hugs twinkle who is crying.

AV about twinkle is shown… emotional parents…..father singing a song. Twinkle is consoled by everybody and sings her final song.

(I have deliberately missed tushar bhai's comments because bilkul bore comment maar raha tha)

Tomorrow we have the team of Holiday in the show…pooja bhatt, dino and onjalee as special guests.


Agnipariksha Final 7-23/12/05

Now we are down to seven contestants from the three gharanas.

Today the theme is First love and the singers will sing songs based on this.

The guests for the show are Pooja Bhatt, Dina Morea and Onjalee.

All the contestant start with the classic first love song- Pehla nasha…from Jo jeeta…

All of them are wearing red and white dresses and perform well.

The first contestant for the day is Paresh from the Rock gharana and we are shown an av based on him where his wife speaks about how they met and he proposed. There is a surprise for him as his wife is here in the show. He chooses the song Na tum jaano na hum from Kaho na pyaar hai. Very good rendetion- sur taal perfect and perfect feel – he sang it much better than the original singer Lucky ali. Perfect is the word- he sounded great.

The mentometer also reflected the same and he gets a perfect 10. AS agrees with my view and says that paresh has sung it 1000 times better than the original singer. ID says it seems the kamaal is of the ladies sitting in front (his wife, mother in law and mother.) Pooja also feels that it sounded better than the original and said that he did really well knowing the fact that his hindi is not that good. He has set a real high standard with his first song of the evening. Same thoughts from Dino and onjalee.

The next singer is Ujjaini whose av shows that she is searching for a partner. She begins with tadap tadap ke and moves on to Jaane ja dhoondti…Her song for the evening is a beautiful song from Refugee- aisa lagta hai……ok singing but I thought she missed the sweetness, feel of the song. She was just going through the motion- ok singing but not to win this competetion.

The mentometer gave her a mixed reaction with AS giving 6 but ID giving her 9. ID said that she sounds confused in the av…she said that she only spoke lines given to her.

Next is the Rock gharana star- Vinit and in his av we are shown people trying to find out who is vinit's love… Vinit's song for the evening is the title track from Tera jadoo chal gaya – ID composition. Vinit has been certainly the surprise package in this show and he lives up to his highest voted tag…….very good rendetion- very good in the higher notes- the mentors infact started clapping in between. I think he needs to work a little more on the lower notes but he was great otherwise.

The mentometer cannot read anything but perfect ten for him today. ID gets up from his seat and comes to vinit and tells him that he is going to give him something- 50 rupees note which is worth 50 crores…his father had given him 50 rupees from his first earning and he had saved it to give it his child but vinit has forced him to part with it today! HR also comes and he praises vinit some more. Pooja says that great things come in small packages and he is a dynamite.

The next performer is Debojit from Yalgaar gharana and in the av based on him, his wife talks about him and their love. He chooses a classic rd love song- Ek ladki ko dekha from 1942-a love story. This is a classic Sanu number and the softness of this wonderful song is missing in debojit's version. He sings well but does not come even close to the original. I think he could have done better.

The mentors too feel the same way and he gets a 8, 8. ID says that he tried well and often koshish kamyaab hoti hai. Pooja felt that he has got a great voice.

The next performer is from yalgaar gharana- Nihira and the av on her shows her love towards god and that is the greatest and purest love. Her song on the first love theme is Pyar hua chupke se from 1942- a love story….a little shaky in the beginning- she picks up and she is probably the only one who could sing this perfectly sung by Kavita k song. Very good feel….great voice…great control- fantastic.

The mentometer is perfect for her and she gets a perfect ten. ID says that one who loves god is on the right way and he does not have words to say how well she has sung. Pooja says ki uske rongte khade ho gaye..dino also says that she has sung really very very very …well.

The last gharana is Jai ho and the first contestant from this gharana is Hema- av on him shows his friends talking about some girl on the show he likes- no names. He chooses Chori chori from vidhu vinod's movie- the name has slipped my mind- good singing- good feel- he sings in his original style- good harkats- great control over voice but somehow I have a feel that his voice may not suit most of the heroes of hindi film industry. Great singing- but some accent problem still there.

The mentometer gives him 9, 9. AS is all praise for him and says that the best thing about hema is that he does not copy anybody- he is original. Pooja also praises hema's singing.

The last singer for the evening is Himani and her song is the current fav from Kalyug- jiya dhadak …very good rendetion- I thought she could have sung the song with a little more open voice- but great harkats- very good on the higher notes, very powerful singing. Perfect song for her voice and she does justice to it.

The mentometer gives her also a perfect ten…..the mentors are very impressed with her rendetion. AS says that he always tells his wife that he has two sons and one daughter- himani. Pooja says that it takes a haryanvi to try and sing and rahat ali khan song and beat him at that. She is very impressed with her singing and says that she should never change her style and if somebody tell her to- there is something wrong with their ears not with her singing.

The show has a surpise ans we are shown Avs on the mentors. AS's wife talks about him and ID's wife talks about their love story. HR refuses to fall in the trap and says that he will reveal along with Vinit. Shaan's wife also talks about the time they met and he proposed. In the end, the stars of the film Holiday- Dino and Onjalee do a fantastic dance number.

Agnipariksha results- 29/12/05

Theme for the day- Punjabi numbers

Guest for the day- Prasoon Joshi, Lyricist (Hum tum, Parineeta, Rang de Basanti)

All the contestant started with the punjabi number Jin mera dil lutiya

Good performance by the boys…dance with chair.

Shaan welcomed everybody in Punjabi..so today he is going to try and speak in Punjabi! The number of votes this time is 60 Lakhs.

The first gharana to come forward for the results is Jai ho gharana and the two contestants from this gharana are Himani and Hemachandra.

The first result is for Hema, his sister hemabindu is also there and has confidence in hema and a surprise – he gets a green card…his father is relieved and is almost in tears. His percentage of vote is 13.9.

Himani is the next one and her mother is here for the first time……as expected with her good singing last time- she gets green card again and her vote share is 18.71%. AS says that he was confident that both of them will go to next round.

Hemachandra sings Kudiyan nu bach ke …..i was thinking that hema will be uncomfortable but he was quite good….may be there was some accent problem which I did not understand (I do not understand Punjabi) but overall the song sounded nice and full of energy.

Next was Himani who sings Hulle hulla – Rajeshwari number. Good number and sings well. Prasoon like Hemachandra's efforts but feels Himani sounded a little overconfident probably because she is comfortable with the language.

Yalgaar gharana is the next one and there is some conversation with Nihira's mom and Debo's wife. Both say that they are ready to accept any verdict.

Debojit says that people from his hometown have been calling to say that VSNL lines have been jammed throughout the week. ID joins him and says that line to nahi kaat diya.

Debojit gets a yellow this time- first for him. Nihira gets green and is through to the next round with 16.42% vote.
Nihira's Punjabi number is Kala shah kaala….pretty ordinary performance- did not have the energy which a punjabi number requires…she says later that since she was concentrating on getting the diction right. ID says that this should never be the excuse. Most of the singers do not know the language…one should put in the right feel and energy no matter what the language is. Prasoon also agrees with ID.

The Yalgaar gharana is the next one with three contestants- Paresh, Vinit and Ujjaini. Vinit's brother is there and ID says that ab to family bhi aa gayi rishte ki baat karne. Ther is some more conversation with Paresh's wife and Ujjaini's mother.

Vinit is once again safe and gets 16.43% vote – which means Paresh and Ujjaini both get yellow.

Vinit sings a Punjabi number Diwani meri jaan lagdi…he is very good in the higher notes, even his transition from higher to lower note is very good. Prasoon praises Vinit's singing that inspite of his gala baitha hua ..he has sung well.

Now the bottom three perform. Debojit is the first one with sukbir number….hoho…ishq tera ….not very good singing…concentrating on performance..dances…but singing has gone downhill.

Ujjaini picks up a beautiful number…aaja soniya and sings it quite well with lot of feeling..her voice also sounds very nice.

Paresh sings Dil le gayi kudi…. And does well…sings with the right amount of expression and energy.

Prasoon joshi tries to cheer the participants with a poetry and then announces the results. Now the results. Paresh goes to the next round with 13.87% vote and debojit is safe with 13.77% vote. Ujjaini is out and gets around 3.18 lakh votes. Ujjaini said that as part of her new year resolution, she will not cry as people think that she is doing natak. It is hard for her to control tears. She thanks all the mentors and says that today she is missing Jatin- lalit. Asks people to clap for them. AS tells her that it is not the end and only beginning of the journey…she says that wish she had got this support some weeks back.
Ujjaini bids goodbye with a song.


AgniPariksha final 6- 30/12/2005


The episode began with all the contestants singing some hit 2005 numbers…..solo singing but recorded… Vinit sang Aashiq banaya…debojit sang aadat from Kalyug, nihira - chalta jaye ishq musafir...paresh...no entry number, hema -ek mai aur ek tu from bluffmaster and himani..jave jave ..mere dholna.

Shaan joined and all of them sang a hit shaan number- Dus bahane karke.

All the mentors came in – triying to speak like other mentor. AS came in with Yalgaar ho ID style..spoke like him. HR copied AS and said that his singers have original voice…ID did HR's nakkal and did some topibaazi…

Theme for the day- Party numbers

Guests for the day- Emrani hashmi and Udita goswami promoting aksar.

The first gharana to perform is Jai ho gharana and the first contestant is Himani who got the highest number of votes yesterday. An av on her showed her new year resolution….behave and dress like girls…some funny thinks…she chose the song kaisi paheli zindagani from Parineeta….as usual almost flawless performance….great style…good singing…very smooth singing. She did add her touch which was very good.

The mentors decided to do away with mentometer today and commented with shayari…all good thinks only. Udita said that himani looks so well that she can act and sing for herself.

Next singer is Hemachandra, av him shows two hema- one nerd and another normal. The new year resolutions ….get up early…not fight with Mother, sister….and so on…a funny take….he chose a Hashmi number…Wo lamhe wo baate …good singing….as usual singing in his voice and style. Added some harkats of his own which were very good. He performed well as well….but I felt the voice needs a little more stability.

Emran said that he thought only Atif (the original singer could sing this well but Hema had done wonderful.) The mentors were praising everyone so nothing to write about.

Next gharana was Yalgaar and the first contestant Debojit. The av on him showed him an old age home \…spending time with some old people..singing with them. He was shown saying that how could people leave their parents like this…he would like to do something for these people in the new year. He chose the song Salame…I think from Dhoom. Good lively number and performed well by Debojit with his dance and all but his singing is not good. The voice lacks consistency.

An av on Nihira shows how everybody is fed up of her habit of chewing nails and she has decided to get rid of this habit. Nihira is the next one and she chooses this year's chartbuster..Kajrare from Bunti & babli….and she is fantastic…good expressions, very good harkats…she added her own touch and did wonderfully well. She is a singer to watch…she has arrived! Did falter on the beat in couple of places but overall very good singing.

Next gharana is Rock gharana and Paresh is the first singer form HR's gharana….an av on him shows how he wants to work for anti- smoking. His song for the evening …the hit HR number Just chill…..does good job…but his not learned music shows in his singing. He was very good the other day but today he is just ok…..somehow the energy of the song is lost….his voice quality is very good.

Emran applauds for his good hindi inspite of the fact that he is not from here.

The last contestant is Vinit and av on him shows vinit speaking to street children who are not able to study…vinit wants to do something to help these children enjoy their childhood. His song for the evening is Jeene ke hai chaar din….and after a long time I do not enjoy Vinit's performance. His voice sounds tired, the energy forced- not good singing I can say. There is again talk about who the girl is…he requests HR to not tell…he promises to tell when and if wins.

The show ends with Emran and Udita coming on stage with everyone else…and perform on the song Ek baar aja..aja..from Aksar.

Agnipariksha Results- 5/1/06


There was a recap of last week's elimination- Ujjaini journey…how she had impressed everybody by her black song….how she got eliminated…..selected again….

Today is the black and white round. All the participants were given the era look and started with the song Shola jo badke…..nice performance…all of them looking nice

Shaan joined them…came in a bicycle.

This time again they had about 60 lakhs votes. AD and ID both spoke about the good contestants should be voted in. HR, as usual talking about Vinit.
Shaan told us that in the new year, they do not have the light system but a new process in which photographs of all the contestants will be scrolled ..and on whichever face it stops….that person is though to the final 5.

The scroll begins and the first face on that is Debojit who gets 19% vote. Out of the votes he has received, 73% has come from Assam, 6% from West Bengal and 2% from Delhi. So essentially he has won because of the votes from his hometown. His choice in the black and white song is the evergreen Kishore kumar song Main hoon jhum jhum jhumroo…..good singing….got the right feel….some problem in the beginning, also I felt that since the first line is repeated so many times…he should have got some variations but overall much better performance from what he has been giving lately. Good yoodle…voice and singing is very kishore style…so no originality in that sense. A small anecdote about him was shared… in the old age home which debojit visits regularly, tv is switched off at 10pm but on special requests, they were allowed to see SGMP…but last week when debojit became the trishanku….some of them became too anxious.
ID obviously started with some adjectives in English which he knows- outstanding, mindblowing. He tells the people of gujurat to also vote for debojit as ID is from that state.
Next picture on the scroll is of Himani. Her vote percentage is 17.83 and the break up is
14% from Delhi, 14% Maharashtra, 8 % from Kolkata- her votes are more evenly distributed. Her song for the evening is Huzoore waala – ok performance but I think she needs to become a little more open…she is singing at superfacial level…needs to sing from heart….full mouthed …little more power in her singing which is actually her trademark.

AS says that himani has once again proved that she is a versatile singer. (I somehow do not agree with his observation…no today)
Next safe contestant is Nihira who gets 14.08% of votes…her votes are 33 % from Maharashtra, 8% from Delhi and rest evenly distributed. Shaan mentiones that nihira seemed a little worried when she heard that himani had got 14% vote from maharashtra. Nihira chooses a wonderful song- Aayye meherbaan- She is as usual very perfect on her sur and voice quality- I just felt that on the higher notes it seemed like she was making a little effort- otherwise good feel…..good singing…but I think she needs to take her singing to next perfect level.

ID said that she is as usual very good and public should vote for her as she is a good singer.

Now the last three..and the tension is mounting and this time the scroll stops at Vinit. He gets 15.65% votes and his vote shares are 17%- UP (home state), 8%- Delhi and Mumbai-6% - so for him also the votes are evenly balanced. The song he selects is Baar baar dekho..hazaar baar….good song selection…but he was a letdown today…I thought this was his kind of song…but the energy was lacking…voice sounded tired, he did pick up the energy in the antara a little bit but overall very thanda performance.
HR as usual has only good words to say about vinit but he told him to be beware of Debojit- though he admitted that he does not so much believe in Debu's singing but if he has got so many votes and come so far…public likes him and he could be vinit's tough competetion- so he can't relax.

Now the final two- Hema and Paresh…. Both are tense and so are their mother..thank god hema's father is not here! ID says that I want all the six to be here and AS (I am not sure if it was AS or ID )mentions that aaj hi khatam kar do- ye 6 jeet gaye…
Both of them are asked to perform and prove to people that they should have voted for them.

Paresh is the first one and he picks up the bhagwan number bholi surat dil..very good singing- he completely sang it in the black and white era style- good feel ..also put in the dance steps…he has certainly improved a lot…..

Hema chooses a strange number-Aao twist kare..a mehmood number – he was good though a little bit of accent was visible….good harkats at some places….i will not say it was great but it was quite good.

Shaan reveals that debojit has got second highest vote followed by himani, vinit and nihira in that order. That means that out of these two one has got the highest amount of vote and one the lowest. The scroll begins and the face on which it stops is Hema…so hema is in final 5 and paresh is out. Hema gets 19.50 % and paresh gets 13.97%. Hema starts crying- holding paresh…paresh is trying to console him- hema adds that paresh has always treated him like a younger brother. Nihira and himani are also crying. Paresh is very controlled and thanks everybody. HR asks everybody to stand and pray for paresh so that he become bigger performer than Michael Jackson (god know who wants that!)
Some fans of his want to come up and wish him…some take his autograph, shake hands……

Hema is in better control and thanks everyone for voting for him.

Paresh ends the show with Bheege hont tere……the other contestant join him. Himani is hugging paresh and crying a lot. Nihira also tries hard to control her tears.

Agnipariksha Final 5

The show began with all the participants singing the title song from Rang de basanti. The boys wearing turbans….dance movements not co ordinated…each doing their own thing…but good overall.

The SGMP team shows us the city and relatives of the five contestants. Today the guest is Kapil dev and hence all the conversation is in the cricket language….full toss, overs….pitch report, weather report…

The mentors are shown speaking to the contestant, ID tells nihira and debu that if they get out at this stage, it will be bad…himani is performing well so nihira cannot relax. HR tells vinit and paresh (mainly to paresh) that they should concentrate, moreover because hema is playing on the home ground. AS also encouraging the participants.

The first gharana to perform today is the Yalgaar gharana and the first performer for the evening is Debojit. A small AV on him shows his journey from tension kumar to Chumma kumar…all the other male contestants (old clipping…paresh, vinit, hema, sharib) teasing him and asking him for chumma. Pulling his leg that he gave chumma to ID but is not giving it to them. The song selected for the evening is Aye zindagi gale laga le….very good song and a good beginning by debojit…soothing voice and sounds different from his kishore kumar style of singing. Good feel but he falters in one place in antara…his voice cracks….but he recovers well. I remember vishal singing the same song in Indian idol piano round and he was superb. Debojit lacked a little power but overall not a bad performance.

The two mentors give him 4 (AS), 7(HR). I think AS rating was a little too low, debojit atleast deserved 6.

ID said that according to him debojit has done very well. He did one mistake but overall sang well. Kapil dev said that he is not that knowledgeable but he found it good.

Nihira is the next one and the AV on her shows people saying that though she sings very well…nihira and dance do not go together…shows her attempt at dancing and disaster…

ID says that the song he has selected a very difficult asha bhonsle- ravinder jain number and the song is Saathi re, bhool na jaana mere pyaar- as usual she is very good…difficult song indeed, lot of expression needed and she does really well and important thing that she does not try to copy Asha in any place- sings it completely in her own style. She did falter….sounded a little shrill on some high notes but overall superb.

Both the mentors give her 9. ID gets up from her stage and blesses her and says that from his side she deserves not 10 but 100. Kapil sounds a little sentimental and says that in cricket they say that when a bowler is on his runup, he should not make noise and that is best and similarly in singing if they can't hear the breath in singing that is great…patta hi nahi chala kab saans le rahe the. Very good.

The next gharana is rock gharana and the sole contestant is vinit. Vinit's AV shows the story of topiwala ..focusing on his penchant for topi….vinit dressed as gabbar and following somebody with a topi…..silly av, bad acting. HR obviously praises vinit. The song he has chosen for vinit is Sandese aate hain from Border- good singing but voice projection not that good…specially when you compare it with the original singers sonu and roop kumar rathod- the power of the song is missing, though the feel is good…puts in lot of emotion and is good as usual in the higher notes.

The mentors give him 10 (AS) and 9(ID)- I think it is little overrating – they went with the lyrics of the song. HR comes up and gives vinit a hug…emotional – thanks and congratulates all the people involved with the song. Kapil Dev says that when he had heard about vinit being compared to sachin and says that even sachin was this small and …once you leave home to make it big – you can never go back…gets sentimental. Vinit says that he is missing his mom, HR says that his mother is here and he will take vinit to his mother who is here for blessing.

The next gharana is Jai ho and the first one is Hema. AS mentions that the song selected for him is the one which only a trained singer can attempt. His song is Hay rama from rangeela- very good singing, very good harkats….he sings the female and the male portion both effortlessly. Very good

The mentors give him 9 each (unfair atleast deserved one 10) AS said that unke rongte khade ho gaye…blesses him. Kapil says that he does not have words- very good.

Himani is the next one and AV on him shows how cool she is and it is because she sits in the refrigerator! The song selected for her Chithiye from Heena. Beautiful song…..sang very well with lot of expressions……good harkats….very good control over voice.

The mentors give her perfect 10. ID gets up to bless her (seeks permission from AS) says that one should sing like her or not sing. Kapil says that I cannot even hum and she sings so beautifull, encourages her in haryanvi..says that she is on the right track..himani mentions some incident where he had come to her school and planted trees which have grown now.

Kapil and everyone else wishes the Indian team all the best.
