Updates from the very beginning

The SGMP Challenge 2005 began with the auditions rounds where all the mentors were the mentors.

The show introduced the four mentors

1. Aadesh Shrivastava- Jai ho…..mangalmaya ho

2. Jatin- Lalit- Dum……hum mein hain dum, jamke rakhna kadam

3. Himesh Reshamaiya- Rock….. Let's rock, jai mata di

4. Ismail Darbaar- Yalgaar..yalgaar ho

The songs composed by the four mentors were sung by Shaan and some well known famous past participants from SGMP like Kunal ganjawala and Sneha Pant.

The initial episodes showed the Phase 1 where the auditions were held in 10 cities all over India and lakhs of hopefuls participated from all over India. Out of these 120 were short-listed and were called to mumbai for Phase 2. In the 2^nd phase the 120 were further reduced to 48 and then to 24. Now we have 24 short-listed participants + 8 wildcards holders from previous schedule of SGMP.

SRGMP CHALLENGE 2005 –1st elimination round –1st episode

8 singers (4 girls and 4 boys) out of 48 will compete today and 4 will be chosen to go to the next round. At the end of 6 days of singing (spread over three weeks), we should have 24 contestants who along with the wild card entrants will be divided in 4 gharanas.

Neeta- She sang -zindagi mein koi kabhi aaye na rabba, sang well, good control over sur but kind of suited for this kind of song.

Nakash- Bhanwre ki gunjan – not very good but ok

Manjeera -Khat likhde woh jaan jayenge-Sang well, do not like the voice quality.

Paresh (from the UK)- He chose- tumse acha kaun hai- sang very well with hardly any accent which was so evident in his speaking.

Joyeeta- Saanware – She faltered in the beginning but recovers to sing it really well. Good emotions.

Mukesh- kaal kaal mein – quite a mediocre singer and chose a song which was not for this kind of platform.

Shoumi (UAE)- Aajkal paon nahi…one of my fav songs and I was disappointed …..very inconsistent….good in certain portions only.

Rajeev (chamba- his rustic appeal seems to have bring him so far)-Vaada rahaa…….one of my fav contestant as I think he has got a unique voice but alas he falters too many times….forgets the lyrics…….stops midway….is really scolded for forgetting the lyrics.

The results –

Among the girls-

Manjeera (got three thums up from Aadesh, Himesh and JL) and Joyeeta (got yes from all four) got selected for the next round

Among the boys- Paresh was the clear winner as he got a nod from all four. Rajeev (JL, AS, ID) and Nakash (HR, JL, ID) had a tie after which there was voting by the fellow contestants and rajeev was voted out. (I think the selection method is outlandish)

So in the boys, the winners are Paresh and Nakash.

Today's performances

Sagar- Dil kya kare from Julie- one of my fav songs…….not very good.ok

Hemabindu- She chose aao na from kuch na kaho. She sang it well but lacked finishing.

Vishwaas – Nasha ye pyar from Mann- Good songs sung well, good control over sur, though did falter in some places but very good expressions. The voice quality is also good.

BonJyotsna -Sings Saanwariya saanwariya, some slip ups on sur.

Sharib- saathiya- has got a distinct, different voice- good control over sur

Prachi- Tu rootha toh from jawani – not very good singing

Hemachandra- Dil Chaahta hai- very good- perfect sur- powerful voice- a little accent though.

Jolly -Aa bhi jaaa from sur- nice voice, but some slip ups

The results – Among the girls hemabindu and banjyotsna got yes from all four and hence are through to finals. Among the boys hemachandra was the clear winner with yes from all four mentors. Vishwaas (HR, JL, ID) and Sharib (AS, HR, ID) got three thums up so had a tie. Even when the contestants voted, there was a tie so finally the musicians were asked and they voted for sharib. So Sharib and hemachandra are through.

Third Episode –

Shivani - Sang mai albeli from Zubieda – sang ok, some slip ups in one of the antaras- some pronounciation problem was pointed out by one of the mentors.

Niladri- Sang diwaana mai chalaa- good singing, powerful voice and nice feel.

Rimi – Sang-unse mili nazar from jhuk gaya aasmaan. She sang ok- nothing great but competent.

Nanu –sang Aaj mausam bada beimaan. The song was completely his style and he did well.

Nihira -Chhalka Chhalka re from Saathiya. Good singing which was expected from her- flawless in terms of sur. The mentors were all praise for her

Akhilesh-Sang woh kisna hai. – ok but not very good (amit sana's performance is still ringing in ear)

Swananda- Sang parde mein rehne do – good singing, wonderfully sweet voice.

Kaushik- tumse milke dil ka..good singing.

The results – Nihira and Swananda were clear winners with all four mentors saying yes to them. Among the boys again Niladri and nanu getting yes from all four

The first contestant-

Piyashi -Tujhe yaad na meri – ok but lacked energy and finishing.

Aishwarya - Gustaakh dil from Dil maange mor………...good singing with expression- a little breath problem but overy all ok

Sinchan-Chori chori solah singaar from Manoranjan……. voice quality is good but a little nasal, good control over sur, good throw of words.

Jaiprasad -Pyaar chahiye mujhe from Manokamana…….. – ok singing but problem with the pronunciation- tried to copy bappi lahiri a little too much.

Twinkle- Tumhe yaad karte karte from Amarpali ……Good singing but I think she did over expression- but good control over sur.

Bhumik - Bheege honth tere from Murder……..good singing, …good control over sur, nice expressions.

Supriya:-Betaab dil ki from Hanse zakhm – Good singing, little offkey in some places but good expressions.

Pramod- Wadiyan mera daaman from abhilasha-.. ok, but the voice quality not too great.

The results : Among boys Aishwarya and Bhumik were the winners and among girls Twinkle and Supriya were chosen.

The first singer

Abhijeet-Not too sure of the song- did not sing too well-not his kind of song.

Sanchali- Mere dil ka fom Armaan- good voice, good control over sur but a little lacking in expressions.

Chirag-Tu is tarhaan from aap to aise na the His voice quality is good but chose a song that did not highlight it much- also the expressions not too good.

Soma – Not sure of the song- but not a good performance

Sandip- Pehli Pehli baar baliye from Sangharsh- a beautiful song sung by Sonu but not sung well- the voice did not suit this kind of soft song.

Sayali – not sure of the song -good voice but no control

Vishwanath - Mohabbat ke suhane din-good singing with good expressions but the voice quality not very contemporary

Himani- Ishq ki kaisi majbooriyan from Popkorn khao…..Very powerful voice which suited this kind of song…..good clarity in the singing and perfect sur.

The results: Among the boys Abhijeet and vishwanath were the clear winners with a yes from each of the mentors. Among the girls Sanchali and Himani- clear winners…
