Today's episode is the last in this leg and will give us the last two contestant to get entry in the final 8 agnipariksha round.
The first gharana to perform today was Dum gharana. Abhijeet is one singer with whom JL had a lot of expectations but he has been pretty inconsistent. He has been able to perform well only when given songs of his type. Sanchali, though consistent, has been hardly impressive. She has got green cards on her earlier appearances but her voice is not very remarkable.
Sanchali- The asha bhonsle number chosen for her – paan khaiye sayyan hamar from teesri kasam. I think it was a bad song selection- she does not have the flow, which this song requires. She sang it ok but sounded very mediocre, couple of sur falls as well. With tough competitors like twinkle and himani, this might not be good enough.
Abhijeet- We were shown in the training clip, abhijeet practicing a song but Lalit was not satisfied with his rendetion and changed the song. The song finally sung by abhijeet- Meri bheegi bheegi si from Anamika- a song more of his genre but a disappointing performance. The singing very flat, no soul in the song- completely unexpected mediocre performance- sur is never a problem with abhijeet and that remained so even today but the singing left me dissatisfied.
Mentors-The mentors were not very happy with both the performances.
Twinkle- Twinkle was also singing a different song- aaye mehrabaan, but ismail was not satisfied with her performance and decided to change the song. The song is an unusual one with music by illayaraja- o babuaa ye mahua from Sadma. Very good beginning, good mukhda with lot of expressions, which she is very good at. She faltered in the antara, the voice did not sound as nice as in the mukhda- in the mukhda she copied asha very well but in antara she faltered and was exposed a litlle. But ok performance.
Debojit- Debojit, who is a favorite with lot of our friend, has a good voice and singing style is like Kishore. He sang one of my fav songs- Rhimjhim gire sawan from Manzil. A good romantic song sung well by debojit, though I felt that he lacked that romantic feel of the song. But perfect in sur, good voice quality.
Mentors- Himesh said that they all have lot of expectations from Twinkle and today she exceeded that. JL or AS did mention that twinkle was good in the mukhda and faultered in the antara (lalit sang and showed) and ID said he though twinkle sang like Lalit only.
JL pointed out that debojit sounded like hemant kumar at some places.
Rajiv- Aadesh said that though rajiv is not trained, his singing has got honesty which appeals. Rajiv sang………..i am sorry but it has slipped my mind completely....i think it was Dil ne tadap ke...from anurodh. Off key in lot of places and his voice also did not sound as well as in the earlier rounds. A very mediocre singing but sang with feelings….but not impressive.
Himani- Himani again chose an unusual song and was trained by Vijeyta pandit (AS's wife). The song was aaj ki raat from Anamika, sang it really well and was almost perfect- good expressions, good voice quality and perfect sur.
Mentors- Himesh said that himani also exceeded his expectations. JL mentioned that there was some error in some word but good performance. About rajiv, they said that his voice had a soul and ID mentioned that if he got proper guidance and training this voice can really be great.
The judgement- Among the boys, debojit was told that he did not have the lachak which kishore had and should work on that (yellow card). Among abhijeet and rajiv, sanu said that rajiv's singing had more soul and hence he was the winner today. Surprising result as I thought, debojit was the best today.
Some talk by the mentors that when no body is perfect on sur then the feel should be the criteria and a right decision by the judges. (I am sure ID would have differed)
Among girs, again a surprise- Sanchali was expectedly shown yellow card. Among himani and twinkle they said that it was very close but twinkle was marginally ahead and so the green card goes to her. AD showed his dissent and JL supported him saying that when the career of the contestants are at stake, it should be a more careful decision. Khayyam shut them up saying that since they have been made the judges, the mentors should rely on them and not make their own thing. AS told Himani that she sang well and should not feel bad, sanu replied saying that when parents praise their children too much, the children get spoiled. Himani replied saying that she is not that kind of student. A small tussle.
Tomorrow we will have Himani, Sanchali, Abhijeet and debojit vying for the blue cards. My prediction- Himani and debojit will get it.

The second day of the last group

Recap- Yesterday's tough competetion saw some upsets – Two time green card Himani lost to Twinkle. And the biggest upset was Rajiv winning against the trained, experienced singers Abhijeet and Debojit.

The first singer for the day

Debojit- Debojit was shown yellow card yesterday inspite of good performance. Sanu thought that he lacked the lachak of kishore. Today in AD's round, Debojit chose- tumne na jaana from Chalte- Chalte. A beautiful, soft number by AD, sung very well, good control as usual on sur, good emotions.

Mentors- Since last few weeks, the mentors are in a mood to praise each other and that continued today as well. ID, HR and JL all were praising this composition by aadesh. Himesh as usual continued his spell of non-stop adjectives. Aadesh said that debojit added some harkat of his own and they were very good.

Himani- Himani has been a powerful singer all through and her pakkad over sur is very good. Also she sings with very open voice, and her throw is really very good. Good choice of song today as her singing style is very much like Richa Sharma- Title song from Baghbaan. Very good singing, very controlled in lower notes which is something not all singers are good at. Good clarity of singing, good emotions- she was very good.

Mentors- The mentors were very pleased with her singing and thought she had done great justice to the song. The song was again praised by all the mentors.

Abhijeet- He is JL's one of the fav contestant but has been very inconsistent. Will he be consistent today and get the blue card? His choice of song was very unexpected as this style is not his strong point- marhaba from deewar. Good pakkad over sur, slipped a couple of times though. Tried to throw his voice well, but I have heard Amit Sana's version in Indian Idol and that had much more punch which was required in the song. But definitely better than what I was expecting.

Sanchali- Again a strong contender from JL's gharana- she is strong on sur, trained singer. Unusual song chosen – Gustakhian from Aankhen- very different from the soft numbers that she chooses. She showed good control, good range….good singing.

Mentors- Himesh wanted to speak first and said that he does not understand why sanchali has not been singing songs of this genre- she has done such a superb job and has shown a new facet of her singing today. About Abhijeet he said that he sang well considering this was not his kind of song. He said that both these singers were under tremendous pressure as the earlier singer had performed very well and they matched them. Aadesh said that he added his bit and that was good. They all found Sanchali and abhijeet very good and said that it would be very difficult to decide among these. Himesh (I think he was the one) who said that ujjaini's was one of the best performances here and sanchali even topped that today.

Second Round

Girls- the song chosen- shava shave from K3G. Himani started the song and picked it up well- she has amazing throw and confidence in her singing. I did feel that she did not sing it like girl- meaning the softness was missing. Sanchali sang it well and did bring the feel of the song.

Boys- Chali- chali from baghbaan- Abhijeet started the song- lacked the punch required in the song and I thought was trying to copy Sudesh Bhonsle. Debjit sang it well and his original voice and style was evident.

Judgement- Among the girls, the judges pointed out that in the first round both of them were equal and if the results had to be based on that it would have been very difficult for them. But in the duet round- one of them surged ahead and that was Himani who gets the blue card. Sanchali very graceful in defeat and said that it is a big achievement to come this far and her friend himani should promise her to do well in chakraviuh round and reach the finals. Kumar Sanu said that there are so many music directors here and they should give sanchali a break in this genre of song as she was superb. Aadesh promised that he will give her a song very soon.

Among the boys- again a tough decision according to both the judges. Both at par in the first round and the second round made the difference. Debojit was given the blue card and went to the next round. Kumar Sanu said that abhijeet was superb and if any of the music directors had any song for sanu, they should give it to abhijeet.

Jatin Lalit were very upset with the results and thought it was wrong judgement and said so. A big discussion- himesh jumped in saying that even his singers and infact everybody's singers have had this kind of judgement. A small fight and discussion happened and all the mentors were at judges's desk (I think gajendra ji also had to come to calm down JL)…….and after the judges told them the basis of their decision, the mentors went back to their seats.

Update for 27/10/05

There was no competition today- they showed the stage performances ' Live Mahayudh'- i think it was the same one as shown for dusshera/navratri.

There was a promo - Salman will be there- i think it is for the Brahmashtra round which will be aired next week.

Update for 28/10/05
There was no real contest today but the performances of the participants shortlisted for the Brahmashtra round was shown.

The live Mahayudh- which was also shown yesterday- today only the performances of the selected few-- the contestants were not singing live- ony lip-sync- In front of live crowd

Aishwarya- Tadap tadap from HDDCS- Mediocre singing- at times lost control of the sur. Bad performance and was looking strange.

Joyeeta- Chal hatt from shadi ka ladoo.........ok singing with good expressions but i think she is trying hard to be a performer and that is too obvious

Vishwaas- Aisa zakhm diya from akele hum akele tum- good singing but was looking very jaded.

Ujjaini- Salame from Dhoom- Powerful voice - sounded good but performance very mediocre

Niladri- Woh lamhe..did not like his singing........performance was even worse

Vineeta- Deedar de from Dum.......she has got a very strong and clear voice and was ok-nothing special......and the performance again bad - looks even worse.

Nanu- Mar jawan mit jawan from ashiq banaya apne- strange song for him can't say much- unimpressive

Sanchali- Gustakhiyan (from the earlier rounds- she was not there during the mahayudh probably)

Dilshaad- Kismet se hum from pukar- again from the earlier round

Paresh- Gulabi aankhen......again an old round song.


A very boring episode with no live singing, the contestants asking for votes for their gharanas and pulling each others legs.

Brahmashtra round- 3/11/05

The mentors along with their final contestants sang some songs
AS- doston se pyar kiya-shaan
ID- Hai agar dushman
JL- Aa dekhein zara
HR- yudh kar
The brahmashtra round begins- Himesh has got the maximum votes so he got the chance to call back six contestant- three boys and three girls of his choice.
No judges for the day as the two winners will be decided through public voting. Theme was the recent numbers and the dress code Black.
Everybody said that HR had got all these votes because of Aishwarya and so he would be called.
Himesh decided to call Dilshaad and said that he was unlucky to have lost.
Dilshaad sang Ye hawaein gungunaye from Parineeta. Bad song selection- this is not the genre he is good at- he should have selected a sad song…….sang ok….as usual a little bit of breath problem.
Next to be called was Sanchali. JL were delighted at HR's choice.
Sanchali sang Jave jave jave mere dholna- good singing, perfect sur and pitching- good energy in the performance. I do find her a little nasal but she was quite good.
Shaan asked her if she had learned dancing as well and she said that for some time. All the mentors praised her and said that she turned out to be a performer. JL said that she was a simple girl with specs when she came in but now she has been transformed and has had positive improvements.
ID went to coaxing HR to call his Vineeta and joked that though HR is suppose to be his friends, he has called JL's contestant.
So the next contestant to be recalled by HR was Paresh.
Paresh sang- Ada from Garam Masala (I am not sure of the movie). Good energy, good performance, a little weak on the sur but he makes it up in other ways.
The mentors started their old Wah ji wah with Paresh and ID said that he had run away with his fees for the English coaching.
Next in line Ujjaini- Jatin was overwhelmed and said that he wanted to take a pappi of HR. ID said that if he knew that the paapi could get his contestant in, he would have also tried as HR sits next to him.
Ujjaini- Naam Ada likna from Yahaan- a very soft song sung very softly but I think her throw of words were not very good- a little too much of a whisper……and the sur also not perfect- not one of her best performances.
The next and final boy to be called was ofcourse Aishwarya.
Aishwarya sang Paone baarah baje…what's going on. Good energy and performance. His voice also sounded very good……..not very polished but quite good.
The last one to be called was Vineeta. ID said that he was only taking HR's test and in actual Vineeta is not well and was not able to make it here and so he is going to call the girl about whom he had said that she has come from far and will go very far- no point for guessing- Joyeeta.
Joyeeta was wearing a black sari and was looking nice. She chose the song Laga laga re…...laga prem rog from maine pyar kyon kiya. Surprisingly sang very well though I thought there was not much in the song to perform- if one got the laga laga line properly- most of songs comprised of that. But she sang well, good control over sur, no nasal tone evident….
JL said joyeeta had sung very well today, AS said that she should always wear sari as she looks nice in that.
Now the audience is suppose to vote for the contestants and not the gharana- All the contestants asked for vote in their own way- some people using their mother tongue.
The voting can be done through sms as well as land line.

Brahmashtra round- 4/11/05

Today is the Salman Khan day!

This special episode is obviously the Kyon Ki promotion as well. The contestants who are in the agnipariksha round sang songs from Salman Khan movies.

Hemachandra and Raktima- Aate jate from Maine pyar kiya- raktima did sound a lot nasal- her sur as usual quite pakka. Hemachandra good in the SPB song but has got some problems with the diction.

Nihira and Debojit- Aankhon ki gustakhiyan from HDDCS- Nihira, as usual perfect- except I feel that she needs to work on her expressions..debojit did not seem too good (I think the effect of singing with Nihira)

Vineet- O O Jaane jana from Pyar kiya to darna kya

Sharib and Swananda- chori chori chupke se from Lucky .Swananda was very good, sharib not that good- lost sur at some places.

Rajiv and Himani- completely slipped my mind….but rajiv was not very good- the voice throw not good- Himani did not have too many lines but performed well.

Twinkle- No entry………..good performance, her voice did sound a little husky but she had lot of energy and her style did add a lot to the song.

Salman came after and danced with these finalists on Just chill.

Now after the mentors praised Salman and talked about what a beautiful and kind person he is- some jokes went around about calling Salman Bhai…bhai being not a very good title now a days…..the competetion started.

Theme for the day- Salman's songs for the boys and Kareena songs for the girls

Before that Shaan sang the title song of the movie Kyon ki with Radha (she was in the wheel chair) who is the original singer of this song. Very good rendetion.

Aishwarya- Dil kah raha hai from Kyon kii- good singing- good on energy, nice expressions, performed as well…..i think he was really good today.

The mentors also felt that this was his best performance and he justified his being recalled.

Salman did ask him as to why he did not sing the alaap which was there in the song ….praised his performance and said that he sang as well as he looked.

Sanchali- Raat ka nasha abhi from Asoka- good control over sur- a little nasal but I think it was much less today. Her singing is always good- offbeat song from Rahman and sang very competently by her.

The mentors liked her performance and she asked Salman to give her his vote. He liked her performance but said he has to listen to others before he decided his vote.

Next was Dilshaad who sang Kyon ki title track- today he chose a song, which is more, suited to his voice. But as usual a little breath problem. Ok singing, but nothing great- reminds me of Mohd. Rafi clones…

Salman said that dilshaad has a very sweet voice but he was trying to hard to make it more sweet and it was evident- it sound saccharine. Also said that there was some problem with the pronunciation- word FIKAR and original fikr…..good observation which was praised by Shaan.

Ujjaini- Said before the performance that everybody tells her that she is not a good performer and today she is going to prove them wrong. Gila gila dil …from Aitraaz. She performed well but did let the sur go once too often, in the antara specially. But a good, lively song and she created the mood. Salman, infact, danced to the song.

The mentors were proud that the contestants are not only good singers but have started performing as well. ID did point out that she missed some surs in the antara but said that overall everybody enjoyed her performance. Salman was very happy with the performance and infact shouted once more.

The last male singer- Paresh chose the song Jeene ke hain char din from Mujse shaadi karogi..it is amazing that as soon as he starts singing his accent is perfect! Good singing, though his voice throw is not very good and the sur also not very pukka but he brings in his own style and energy in the song. Salman started dancing with Himani…….Salman asked him where he was from and how long he has been in India- paresh told him and salman was amazed that his pronunciation was so good. The mentors liked his performance, though lalit said that he was watching salman dance and could not pay too much attention to his singing.

The last performer for the day- Joyeeta who sang Meri zindagi mein..from Ajnabee. …frankly I don't quite like her singing- but today her nasal was very less, did slip on sur in couple of places…..good energy and expressions. The mentors were happy with her performance and so was Salman. She decided to tell him how she was a great fan of his (she is very irritating at times).

Anyway, so these were the performances for the day. Salman wished them all the best and his choice will be revealed later…..the public is suppose to vote for these contestants.

Brahmashtra round results- 10/11/05

This episode was mainly meant for the result of the brahmashtra round.

The show started with all the brahmashtra participants singing the song Tanha dil with Shaan. (all contestants dressed in white with candles- looking nice).

Then each gharana came forward and sang a song together.

The first gharana was Jai ho (AS)- Rajeev, Hemachandra, Himani and Raktima. They sang "chote chote shaharon se.....dhadak dhadak". Rajeev started it a little off........hemachandra was very good. Among the girls- i would say not very impressive- Raktima was nasal and hence i thought did not suit the mood of the song- Himani was ok but i expected her to be better.
After the song, AS came - The singers introduced themselves in different clippings......and then all the other candidates said something about them...one word kind.....then AS commented on the strength of his singers. He said that the public will vote for them if they are good singers.

Next Gharana was ID's- Twinkle, Debojit and Nihira- Rok sako to rok lo.....i was quited amazed at their song selection- but anyway- Nihira was very good as usual- you can never find any faults in her singing- Debojit was also quite good- Twinkle was, in my opinion, not very good- but she made it up by her performance.
ID came and praised their performance after the introductions - about nihira he said that she is from Lata M's land and is very good. Debojit "tension" kumar- will keep his laaj and twinkle is not just good looking but also good singer.

JL' gharana was the next in line- Sharib and Swananda- Chand tare...from yes boss- Swananda was very good- sharib...i don't think this was his kind of song but he was ok.
Introductions were followed by JL saying that you only need two to win and they have them- swananda was compared to asha b....

Last was Vineet from HR's gharana-not sure of the song- i thought he did not sing very well- voice did not sound as smooth as other days. Himesh said that he has full faith in vineet who has started copying his clothes as well. Himesh said that he was excited to find out which two contestants will join his gharana today.

Some drama on the results...........Finally Munjal from Hero honda and Zee tv incharge came and announced. First, Salman's choice- in that among girls ujjaini was the choice..among boys - there was a tie between Aishwarya and paresh.

Now the audience results..the percentage of votes were announced

Sanchali- 6%
Aishwarya- 11%
Joyeeta- 13%
Dilshad- 18%
Ujjaini- 19%
Paresh- 30%

(I am not sure about the percentages....anybody sure let me know.....will make the changes...but sure of paresh's percentage).

So, Paresh and ujjaini are the winners and we have two more contestants added to the Rock gharana.

Agnipariksha final 12 –11/11/05

Today is the first day of Agnipariksha round. The twelve singers competing in this round are
AS- Hemachandra, Rajeev, Himani and Raktima
ID- Nihira, Twinkle and Debojit
JL- Swananda and Sharib
HR- Paresh,Ujjaini and Vineet.

No judges today (audience is the judge) and a new thing (most irritating) has been introduced- Mentometer by which the singers is judged by the mentors (except his own mentor). Green is the highest colour in which there are four levels, yellow and red come next with levels each. The mentors will press that to show their satisfaction.

The first performer for the day is Twinkle and the rahman song selected by her is Shakalaka baby……good performance as usual- she looks nice- she needs to work a little harder on her singing – some flaws but good energy.
ID said that she had sung and performed very well.

JL said that they are leaving one for some scope for improvement.

Next Debojit- Ek ho gaye hum aur tum from Bombay- very good performance- sang very well- also performed- I think one of his better performances- did not expect it as this is not his kind of song…but he surprised me. Very good.
ID said that Debojit did very good and he wants to him chuma (matching with huma of the song). JL said that he should also give chuma on behalf of the other mentors. So Debojit ended up getting kissed by ID 5 times…! And debojit also had to kiss Ismail!

Nihira chose Ek bagiya mein from Sapne- good song selection- her kind of song- but thought she did not perform as well as she does usually- some singing flaws- no performance either. But on positive side, her voice sounded as nice as ever.
ID said that she did a mistake but sang very well.

Sharib was the next one to perform- the song- Nach le…I am not sure of the song- heard it for the first time…some Punjabi kind of number…sukwinder style. Good singing….he performed as well………thought he was not very clear in the lower notes but very good on the higher ones. But I did not enjoy his performance much.
JL were as usual very impressed with Sharib's performance and called him to bless him.

Swananda from JL's gharana was the next singer and she chose a lovely rahman number- Chupke se from Sathiya. Not very nice singing…her voice was not ok and she had some problem in singing…..her sweetness and good expressions were still there but was not finishing the songs properly.
JL said that all knew her potential and her voice was baitha hua today and hopefully all will understand and vote accordingly.

Next is Rajeev, the famed singer from Chamba. He chose Shabba shabba hai rabba…..not a good performance, did not sing in the open voice that he is famous for. The feeling and expression there but bad singing.
AS was upset and said that he wants to make it clear that Rajeev was not given the scale which he is good at…ID did try to say in between that it was wrong song selection but AS said that all of them have heard him since beginning and know that he sings in a different scale – he said that let him perform without the track…..and rightly enough Rajeev picked up the song and sang it in a much higher scale and very good (just the first two lines). The mentors agreed and said that they will not rate him on the mentometer today.

The next Jai ho singer is Raktima- Ye haseen vadiyan…….from Roja- beautiful sogn- rendered in her clear soft voice (still nasal though)- sur is pukka and her performance also good (moved in the stage nicely).
AS said that she had a cinematic voice and she has a very clear voice.

Jatin said that he would request Gajji to give him her performance ka tape- he wants to hear singing as well as see the twirl she took. She was blushing.

Hemachandra was the next performer. The song chosen by him was Ae ajnabi from Dil se. Very good performance, clear voice, pukka sur- he is certainly a delight to listen to- this time no diction problem- almost perfect performance.
AS was obviously glad by his performance and said that he was as good as it could get.

HR said that hemachandra was bound to get all the SPB fan's vote and he was one of them.

Himani was the last performer from AS's gharana and sang Que sera sera- good song selection- and equally good performance- she got into the mood of the song and her singing is usually without any hitches- very pleasant on the ear.
AS was delighted and said that she had performed very well.

The next performer is the public favorite Paresh from UK, now in rock gharana. His song selection was very unlike his songs usually-kya karein from Rangeela- tapori song and I was apprehensive that he may not be able to carry the feel…but he was too good- perfect feel, very good singing….his best performance till date.
HR said that all of them have to agree that paresh has sung his best after coming to his gharana…ID said that whatever he had taught paresh- he was using now (some fun).

Ujjaini chose the song main albeli from Zubeida- a difficult melodious song- she sang well, though I think she could have done better- she is more capable- some singing flaws but overall good energy.
HR was happy with her performance and said that she has done well.

Vineet, the star of the HR gharana was the last performer for the evening. His choice of song- Tu hi tu….satrangi re from dil se- very good performance-sang really well- he surprises me every time.
HR said that he was proud of his performance and he should be humble…

The mentors said that rahman should be listening to all of them sing and he will certainly make all these sing for him.

Now next week the one who gets lowest vote, will be eliminated. Who will be eliminated- Rajeev because of the scale problem or Swananda for the voice problem- or is it going to someone else- keep guessing till next week and vote for your favorite singer.

Second round of Agnipariksha –17/11/05

Today is the day when one of the contestants will be eliminated. The one with the lowest number of vote will be out of this competition.
The show started with the Rock gharana participants' performing- Vineet, Ujjaini and Paresh. (The contestants did not sing complete songs.)
Vineet sang yeh dil from Pardes- He sang well but somehow the feel of the song was missing- it is a very good song by Sonu and the emotional high of the song was not there completely in vineet's singing. But sur tal wise good performance.
The next performer was Ujjaini – not very sure of the song. But she did not sing very well. I think she peaked too early with the Black song- after that she has not been very impressive- concentrating too much on performance (read dancing).
Paresh was the next one – missed the song (watching nach baliye)
After this, the results of the public voting for these three were declared. Some nonsense again….green light…. red light……..yellow light……Vineet and paresh get green light but ujjaini gets yellow which means that she is in the bottom group.
The next gharana is the Dum gharana- Sharib and Swananda
Sharib sang kambakht ishq.- good singing- his voice is different and he adds harkats which are nice but somehow the feel lacking again. I think he should concentrate on singing based song as that is forte.
Swananda sang Aisa jaduu dala re -ok singing but I think her voice is still not perfect…sounded a little husky…but as usual ok singing…sur and emotion quite nice but she seemed a little shaky today….may be because she is scared of getting eliminated.
Sharib and swananda both get green and are safe…
Next is the yalgaar gharana- tension kumar Debojit, star Twinkle and sur perfect Nihira.
Debojit - ding dong dil bole- sings nicely and performs along side…..he has improved a lot and will go far.
Nihira sings hawa hawai from mr india ………nicely but the lack of performance is still there.
Twinkle makes up for that and has too much of performance, sings Dekh le from Munnabhai… her harsh…voice is now a little irritating. I think the fame is going to her head- she is concentrating on her performance and not singing.
All the three contestants get green from the public voting. Debojit gets the highest vote..around 23%
Jai ho gharana is the last one- Himani, Raktima, Rajeev and Hemchandra.
Himani- i am not sure of the song but she is ok
Rajeev's song was not impressive……he needs to work a little hard.
Raktima
Hemachandra was good as usual and has started performing as well (I must add that he was looking better with moustache).
Raktima sing rang de mujhe rang- crystal clear voice....a little shrill though.
Rajeev and raktima got yellow and hem and himani got green. Hem is the second highest with around 17% vote.
Among the bottom three- ujjaini, Rajeev and raktima- Rajeev is safe ….ujjaini is safe..so raktima is out.
(sorry as I do not remember the songs sung by the contestants….if anybody remembers or sees the repeats…pls note it down and pm to me so that I can add those)

Second round of Agnipariksha –2nd day- 18/11/05

Raktima is out and now we have 11 contestants. Raktima was shown as saying that she will prove herself and will be back.
Today the theme is song of your favorite star and the special guests tonite are Gulshan grover and koena mitra.
The first singer for the day is Paresh from HR's gharana- his fav hero is Shahid kappor and he chooses a song….makhnawe…maine jaana…..not as good as expected. His last performance was very good …this one was a let down….his voice did not sound very good…
The mentors seemed to have liked his performance. The mentometer (now only green with 1-10 range) for him is 6, 6, 6.
Next is Ujjaini whose fav heroine is Preety zinta and she sings it's time to disco- again a not very good performance- she is capable of much more (zee is spoiling these for performance- they do not sing properly – lay too much of importance to performing)- I think she was below average today- shaky voice- some sur problems as well.
The mentometer gives her 6, 8 6. (the eight is obviously from her old mentors- JL).
HR's prodigee Vinit (that is how the sms needs to be sent) is the next singer. His fav hero is Emraan hasmi and the song- aapki kashish from ashiq banaya apne….good singing but somehow the feel was lacking …..i think he can do much better.
HR said that if he had sung this song live (he is the original singer), he could not have sang better than this (somehow I don't think this is a compliment!). The mentometer reads 8, 6 9. (the mentometer getting a little confusing as they are not showing the whole thing now).
Hemachandra is the first singer from jaiho gharana and his fav hero- saif ali and the song My dil goes mmmm from salame namaste- beautiful singing- not a spb-yesudas song but he does very well- original singing- perfect sur- perfect feel- he is one of the best bets.
AS is obviously very happy. The mentometer shows that the other mentors are also very happy with his performance- 8, 9, 10 (jl, id, hr).
Himani's fav actress is kareena kappor and she chooses bhaage re man..from chameli. Ok singing- I thought she was a little shaky on the lower note…her voice was not very clear….a litlle more feeling is required…not much clarity.
AS is all praise for her and the mentometer gets her 9, 7, 8…..
Akshay is Rajiv's fav actor (we are told about the similarities- both cooks , akshay's real name rajiv….) and he sings vaada raha ….good feel…..ok singing….much better than the last one…..but not comparable to hem..
AS says that he is probably the most popular contestant (does not talk about his singing). The mentometer says 9, 8 , 8. I am surprised by his score.
Swananda from JL's gharana is the next singer and her fav actress is rani mukherjee and the song chosen is Gore gore se chore from hum tum. Good singing, clean singing, good emotions (the naughty song is all there without her trying to dance)…very good comeback- her voice is certainly very good.
Jatin mentions that her singing had no error and she sounds like asha in her youth. The mentometer – 8, 7,7.
Sharib is the next one and I can't believe this but his fav star is Emraan. The song- kaho na kaho- not his kind of song but does well. The Arabic lyrics are sung very clearly- he did slip on sur in few places but overall ok performance.
JL are happy with his performance. The other mentors are also…..scores are confusing but I think it is 8, 7, 9.
Nihira is the next singer and her fav Rani and the song Chup chup ke- perfect singing- can't comment – it was just too good- no error, perfect pitching, perfect feel….very very good.
Ismail comes and gives her a flower….says that she is the first singer to touch his heart today and he is not saying this because she is from his gharana but is proud that she is from his gharana. She gets a perfect ten from all the mentors.
Debojot's fav actor is shahrukh khan and the song- tumhe jo maine from Main hoon na. Good singing again from debojit- nothing much to comment – quite good (after nihira- it did not seem that good but was very good).
ID said that this small town guy has really improved and is now a good performer as well. The mentor score…a little confusing but I think it was 8, 8 , 9.
Twinkle is the last performer- pyar to hona hi tha – a kajol song. Bad singing- trying too much attitude- voice sounded bad, nothing in the song.
ID said that she should concentrate on her singing- all this is going to her head and before it is too late – she should realise it as he knows she can sing well. He does not want to praise her wrongly as it will spoil her life. Jatin praises ID and says that he respects ID now even more. Her ratings are not too good.
So who will be eliminated next week. I think it might be between Ujjaini and Twinkle (they were the worst singers)….will it be one of the boys…it can be Rajeev????

Update for 24th November 2005


Today is the elimination day and the one with the lowest percentage of vote will have to leave.
The theme for the day is Pop songs.
All the participants started with Disco Deewane- good performance by all- can't say about the singing because I think this part is recorded stuff and not live.

The first gharana to be called on stage – Jai ho- Hema, Himani and Rajeev.
Hema was the second highest vote receiver last week and Rajiv was in the bottom three…will their fortunes change today…..Hema was the first one whose results were declared. After much suspense….he is safe and gets green light and his percentage of vote is 7.5%. Next is Rajeev and he is also safe and his percentage-8% Himani is smiling (I think she is confident) and gets5.8% vote to get green light.
Now the performance- Hema sings- Channa ve ghar aja (kunal ganjawala)….sings well but I think he did have some accent problem. Next is Rajiv and he picks a song which suits his style- Piya re, a nusrat song. Sings well and has got the feel right. Himani sings Rangeela mora dholna (shubha mudgal)- good throw of voice- well sung.

The next gharana is Dum- Sharib and Swananda- both get yellow card and sharib breaks down…controls himself after much effort.

Rock gharana is on fire.- vinit, Paresh and Ujjaini….vinit seems confident…the results…all are safe- the percentages- Vinit- 27.9% (the hightest), Paresh- 8.4% and Ujjaini – 8.6%.
Vinit sings Bulla ki jaani….and sings very well – I think he is got a bright future because he is learning at every stop- Himesh promises a song in the movie where Mithun's son Mimoh is being launched. Ujjaini sings Pari hoon mai (Sunita Rao)- I think she is coming back to her elemens and sang this song quite well…better than the original singer. Paresh sings Door se koi aaye (Strings- I think)- sings quite well but I did think some pronounciation problem came in.

Yalgaar gharana is the last one- Nihira, Debojit and Twinkle. Twinkle accepts that she thinks she will get yellow as her performance was not good last week. She gets yellow and is in bottom three. Nihira gets 8% vote and Debojit gets 13.4% vote.
Nihira sings Aika dajiba (vaishali)- not a very good performance- but ok by her standards. Debojit sings Tu…(sonu nigam)- bad singing- voice not consistent- I think he missed the beat also in couple of places- concentration too much on performance.

Now the contestants who are in bottom three perform.

Swananda sings Raat Shabnami (asha)- perfect singing- her voice is really quite like asha- I think it was one of the best performance of the evening.
Sharib sings Saiyon ni (junoon)- good singing- his kind of songs and he does very well.
Felt bad on seeing these two in bottom three.
Twinkle sings Made in India (alisha)- bad singing…trying too hard to sing like Alisha- BAD.

Before the results are announced, Jatin says that he is sure that swananda is out but she should not be as she is a very good singer. But he is right and Swananda is eliminated. Sharib get 5.5% vote and twinkle gets 4.7%. Swananda only gets 2%. She is quite graceful in defeat and says that she is not so sad about losing but sad about the fact that she will be no longer in this mahaul and will have to leave all of them…thanks everybody. Jatin says that they will also miss her a lot and she should send him a rakhi as she is like her sister.

I am not happy with the results – I think twinkle should have been out…but …..

Today's performance round was called RDX--RAHUL DEV BURMAN's EXPLOSIVE SONGS!!!!!

The show opened with a nice performance of MEHBOOBA MEHBOOBA by all the contestants.

Then JAI HO gharana was the first to perform...

HEMACHANDRA was disappointing in his performance of BACHNA AE HASEENO....in the "MENTOR-METER" ID gave him 7, HR & JL gave 3 each. HEMA said his voice was not ok....n AS defended him, but when JL n HR tried to xplain their low votes AS was very fiery n went to the extent of saying "HEMA bohat bura gaata hain, koi bhi usse vote mat dena plz!!!" I had a feeling this was just the beginning of the war of words.

HIMANI performed next and did well with the song JAANEJA(DHIN TINAK DHIN NISHA one)....her votes were ID-8, HR-6, JL-8...n AS praised her performance.

RAJEEV was not up to the mark with DEKHA NA HAI RE...his vote ID-6, HR-4, JL-3....n AS again raised the issue that the track for RAJEEV was not suitable for his high range voice..the other mentors also agreed.

Then came the sole survivor from DUM gharana...SHARIB....he was his usual best with his performance of YAMMA YAMMA...his votes were ID-9, HR-8, AS-7..n JL urged the public to vote for him so that he could fulfill his dreams.

Next came the YALGAAR gharana......

TWINKLE was first up...n her performance was far better than last week n she seemed to b concentrating more on her singing as she performed HATOOBA....her votes were HR-6, JL-5, AS-5....ID said "Aajke performance ke bare mein mera koi gila shikwa nahin hain..main khush hoon!"

DEBOJIT was up next and he disappointed with DIL LENA KHEL HAIN DILDAR KA.....his votes were HR-5, JL-5, AS-2.....n ID criticised him saying "Itne chumme milne ke baad to tum bigadte jaa rahe ho....age bado nahi to chumma wapas de do"...DEBU tried to say "Gala kharab hay" but ID was having none of it.."Har koi yehi kehta hain...gala kharab hain to gaana mat gao..hamare sar mat khao!!"

And then came the best performance of the evening ...NIHIRA just blew everybody away with her performance of HARE RAMA HARE KRISHNA...if I remember correctly the song was originally sung by USHA UTHUP n ASHA-ji...n NIHIRA showed why she's considered the best, by singing the song which is in two different octaves(base for USHA UTHUP n higher notes by ASHA-ji)...n no wonder all the mentors were showering praises on her...perfect 10 from all three mentors second week in a row...ID just said "Aapna consistency aise hi rakhna...pura 10 pane ki chakkar mein pagal mat hona!"

Remaining gharana was JAI HO.....

VINEET performed well in AAJA AAJA....but AS raised the issue that the track created for VINEET was custom made so as to help him..n without that help (a click sound that helped VINEET keep his notes correct) he wouldn't have sung so well....HR reacted angrily n the war of words continued...finally the mentors voted..ID-9, JL-7, AS-10..n he said " Main isse 10 de raha hoon iss ka koi importance nahi hain...main 3 bhi de sakta tha....ya 1....ya kuch bhi nahi..."

UJJAINI was good with her performance of DUNIYA MEIN LOGON KO..her votes were ID-9, JL-8, AS-6...HR said she was getting back to the level when she performed HAAN MAINE CHUKAR DEKHA HAINin an earlier episode.

Finally PARESH performed JAHAN TERI YEH NAZAR HAIN...but this was not his best performance..his votes ID-9, JL-5, AS-10.....n HS said he was happy n that PARESH should ask for votes in Gujrati...but PARESH stammered n couldn't get the words out n said he's forgetting Gujrati while learning Hindi.

The show ended with the appearance of surprise guest n SA RE GA MA's own KUNAL GANJAWALA..he reminsced bout his beginning n performed DEKHA NA HAI RE...which was also his first song in SA RE GA MA way back when...we got to c the clip of very young looking KUNAL with the then host SONU n surprise surprise the judge in the background was young looking AADESH!!!

"Afsos to public se hua hai. Music ki quality deteriorate ho rahi hai. Muje sharm aa rahi hai, kehte hua ki public ek achchhe singer ko jaan na saki. Really, public is only responsible for bad and good. Ye public ki haar hai."

JL had nothing to offer him. (Very sad for them and us also.)

ID was like CRIED. His emotions were rightly on. ID promised him a DUET WITH LATA MANGESHKAR, (well, battle won for Sharib). ID said, as LM is out of country, he will be recording next month with Sharib and LM. Films name is "Pyar kiya to Nibhana".

That's the spirit!
(I loved ID, there is a soft heart suppressed in ths personality).

JL (as they had nothing to offer), said, "they wont let Sharib leave mumbai, even if they need to sell their houses.".
(Emotions, feelings were so easily there……)

Agnipariksha- Final 9 -2/12/05

Today is the Laxmikan-pyarelal round and the celebrity judge is Sanjay Leela Bhanshli, who has got a old connection with SGMP (He selected shreya ghoshal from the show).
All the contestant together sing Dhol baje…..from HDDCS. (Only performing- rajiv with the dhol and others dancing in pairs). Bhanshali enters to say that he loves the show and wishes that it will go on. LP is his favorite music director and he is pleased to be here today. All the contestants (including Sharib) went to invite SLB.
The theme has been chosen by SLB himself.
The first gharana chosen SLB is Jai ho gharana and the first contestant to perform in from of SLB- folksy Rajiv. Rajiv chooses Parbat ke is paar….We are shown a clipping where rajiv sang in front of SLB…he said that he was singing it like a bhajan. Rajiv starts well, but I think his lack of training is very evident in his singing- his voice quality is very good but his singing needs to be better. His high notes were well sung.
The mentometer (the format changed- no more lights- now it is numbers) gave him 8 (JL), 7(HR) and 8 (ID). Aadesh said that he was happy with his performance. SLB said that though he had told him earlier about the bhajan bit, today he sang very well. He should go to chamba and sing this song….rajiv said that he does not want to go back…SLB said that you must go once and then come back.
After this, AS said that he has to leave since he is going out of station- but he knows that a knowledgeable person like SLB is here- and he requested Jatin to sit in his place.
Next is Surila Hemachandra from Jaiho gharana and the song chosen- Tere mere bich from Ek duje ke liye. A SPB song- a song which suits his style completely- good control over sur as usual- good voice quality but I thought he was a little restrained today- not singing with open voice- but overall good performance.
The mentometer gave him 9/8/8. Jatin (sitting in place of AS) said that Hema sings very well and has got a very strong male voice which is very cinematic and will sound very good on screen.
Next is the gutsy Himani who was singing a different song in the clipping with SLB but sang Ni mai yaar manani….a good natkhat song and she sang very well. She got into the mood of the song- and good expressions- her sur is always pakka- good singing, some good harkats as well but I thought this song could have a little more energy. She is capable of better.
The mentometer for her reads-10/9/10- so the mentors really liked her performance- Jatin said that she sang very well specially the harkats she took on the lower note. SLB was very happy with her performance and said that he wanted to come and hug her. He walked upto the stage and hugged her- ID said that if a director like SLB does that then you know about the performance. SLB said that she was very good and her expressions were perfect- very good voice.
Next the is the Yalgaar gharana and the first contestant from ID's gharana is Chulbuli Twinkle. Her last few performances have been bad and also she has been in bottom three. Today the song which SLB chose for her (I think he chose songs for everybody or atleast some of them) – Hungama ho gaya- uncommon song (I have not heard it)- difficult one which has got lot of dialogues…lot of expression bit (something twinkle is good at). She had, as expected, very good expression- but I still feel her singing is not that good- her breath is also not controlled- very less singing in the song- too much talking bits- but she did those well. Overall ok performance- I did not like it much though (I do not like her over expression bit).
The mentometer showed 8/9/8. Ismail said that he was very happy with her performance- he was very tense since SLB was here and he would have said that ye kya sikhaya but she has done him proud. Twinkle said that she had decided today that if she did not sing well, she would leave the competition. ID praised SLB (I think the other mentors were feeling a little left out) and called him to stage and hugged him.
The next contestant, also from Yalgaar gharana- Strange Debojit and the song is Kaate nahin..from Mr India. Shaky beginning- he was attempting to sing both the female as well as the male part. I thought he was sounding strange in the female bits- did not like his performance- he is again capable of much better. His performances are certainly coming down- this time it was probably a little better than last time.
The mentometer read- 8/7/6. Ismail said that he was happy with his performance. SLB said that he had a good voice and he said words very softly.
Next is the miss perfect Nihira and the song chosen for her- (her clipping song seemed different) Dafliwale from Sargam. Good singing- very good on higher notes- very controlled- very surily as usual. She has got amazing breath control. I thought that the great energy and expression that she was showing in last couple of performance was a little lacking today- but overall a very good performance.
The mentometer was in her favour and gave her 9/9/7. ID said that he was very happy with her performance. SLB paid an ultimate comment- said that she is going to be one of the greatest singer in future and her future is sure- her singing is very good.
Now the last gharana (since JL's gharana's challenge is over) is Rock gharana and the first contestant is Pardesi Paresh and the song for him- ye reshmi julfein. I thought he had a faulty beginning- but he picks up fast- he is very confident- sang the song very consistently- not brilliant but not bad either- his voice sounded good. But somehow I felt that Sharib, swananda and may be Raktima too were better than him.
The mentors gave him 7/7/8. Himesh said that though he praises vinit- Paresh has been very consistent and might be the one. SLB said that he liked the way he said some words like reshmi..sharbati, he liked his confidence.
Ujjaini from HR's gharana was the next one and her song- koi shahri babu- a little dull beginning- but picked up- her voice is good and she needs to become little more open- she is still not giving it her all- needs to sing as openly as when she sang the black song.
The mentometer for her read 10/10/10. I was surprised- did not like her performance that much. Himesh said that she was improving and one more performance of the Black song level and she will be on top. SLB was very impressed with her singing and said that the chamak in her song was missing in others.
The last singer, who has been topping the voting chars for last two weeks- versatile Vinit (HR came and gave him the topi and said that he should always wear it) and the song- Patta patta buta buta- very good beginning- and the quality maintained throughout the song- very well sung- the voice sounded very mature- very controlled singing- did think he could be better in the lower notes but overall very good performance.
The mentors gave him what he deserved-10/10/10. Himesh was very proud of him. SLB said that this is one his fav song and a very LP song which vinit did full justice to.
Shreya ghoshal came towards the end and spoke about her association with SGMP (some flash back of her performances in SGMP)…met all the contestants and sang her award winning – first recorded Bairi piya from devdaas.
Who will be out next week- Rajiv, Twinkle, Paresh or somebody else..keep guessing and watching SGMP.

Agnipariksha- Results episode 8/12/05

Today's theme- Shaadi.
All the participants started with the song- Mehndi laga ke rakhna from
DDLJ. All of them looking nice dressed in shaadi kind of clothes.
Rajiv was given the dafli this time.

Aadesh is back today but Jatin Lalit are missing.

Now the results- The first gharana to be called is Yalgaar gharana and
the participants from this gharana are Nihira, Debojit and Twinkle.
All of them nervous. Shaan asks Twinkle whether she thinks she will do
a hat trick of yellow lights. She hopes that this time she will not be
part of trishanku.
Debojit is the first one and gets green with 12.544% vote and is
delighted (after some bad performances, in my opinion, he should have
been in the bottom three). Thanks the viewers.
Twinkle is the next one and she also gets green card and her vote
share is 11.075 (not sure of the last digit). She is obviously very happy.
Nihira is the next one and the most unexpected think happens- she gets
a yellow! Nobody can believe it. Ismail is most disappointed that a
singer like nihira is not getting votes from audience.
Twinkle sings Taare hain barati from Viraasat. Very good beginning, a
Jaspinder Narula song which suits twinkle's voice. But falters……….the
rest of the song huge disappointment- sur, tal….everything
haywire…….very bad at lower notes- shaky voice. I think she deserved
to be in bottom three.
Debojit's shaadi song is tere ghar aaya, mein aaya tujhko lene……not
very good but ok- better than some of his last performance. But he has
slipped and may not survive for too long.

Now the next gharana is Rock gharana and the singers are Vinit,
Ujjaini and Paresh. All of them tense, specially Ujjaini.
Paresh gets 10.297% of votes and is through to the next round. Thanks
the viewers.
Next is Ujjaini and she gets 10.228% votes and cannot believe her luck.
Vinit from Rock gharana is also clear with 14.168% of the votes and
goes to the final 8. Himesh is obviously very happy with all his
contestants going to the next round- comes and gives vinit something
to cover his head (topi does not suit the Indian shadi dresses that
they are wearing.
Paresh is the first one to perform with the song Chal pyar karegi with
ujjani joining him. Very well sung- he knows his limitations and stays
within those to perform really well.
Ujjaini is the next one who sings Le ja le ja………seems a little nervous
but performs ok- good energy and softness combined in her singing.
Vinit, the orginal rock gharana singer, sings Mahi ve and in the end
is joined by paresh and Ujjaini. Ok, but I think it was not as good as
it could have been. The voice was not very soothing…something not right.

Now the gharana left is Jai ho gharana and it has three contestants
out of which two will be in yellow gharana-so who is the safe
participant from this gharana? Rajiv is as usual very nervous and I
think knows that he will be in bottom three which is correct. He gets
yellow card and is part of the trishanku. Now between Himani and Hema-
Himani goes through to the next round with 15.489% of vote and is the
top singer this week. She is delighted and is very happy to know that
she is the first female singer to top the voting. Aadesh is pre
occupied and does not respond to her happiness (I think he is very
disappointed with hema being in the bottom three)- Shaan seeks his
attention and AS blesses Himani. Hema is obviously in the bottom three
and takes it very sportingly.
Himani sings another Narula number- Sabki barate aayin…….very well
sung- amazing control over her voice, good feeling.

Now the final results- Rajiv, hema and nihira- who will be out this
week? Everybody is tense. All three perform their shaadi numbers.
Hema is the first one with Mujshe shaadi karogi……..well sung- good
masti which he brought- good energy…a little accent problem but not
too much. Overall,a good performance. Nihira sings Didi tere devar and
is as usual perfect- she is a little nervous and that shows but her
voice and sur obviously do not show that- I think she needs to work a
little on her expressions- she had excelled in last few rounds and is
capable. Rajiv sings Ek punjaban from Major saab- falters- misses a
little coordination bit with the other singers as well. Hema tries to
support him by singing in the background.

The results- Rajiv clears the round with 9.058- shaan tells him that
he should not be so nervous and perform to his best ability. So, now
it has to be between Nihira and Hema. The mentors are extremely
disappointed because they are two of the best singers who are trained
as well. Shaan hands over two envelopes to the contestants and tells
them to open them and see their percentage of vote. And, the most
amazing thing happens- Both get 9.053% vote and are tied at the
bottom. SMS, land line and internet polls- together nihira and hema
have got exactly the same number of votes. Both go to the next round-
the mentors are happy. The show ends with mehndi laga ke rakna.

Agnipariksha final 9- 9/12/05

Today the special guests are Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao who are promoting their latest movie Vah Life ho to aisi. The contestants together sang a song from this movie- Teri yaad yaad….. Not much fun watching this kind of lip sync performances- the ones who dance and have style look good.
Theme for the day- Songs picturised on Shahid and Amrita (I would say-very bad idea- they have got hardly any good songs!)
Jatin lalit have- I think (I might have missed some part where they announced their absence) have bid goodbye to the show- they are absent today as well.
The first gharana to perfom is Rock gharana and the three contestants from HR's gharana are Vinit, Paresh and Ujjaini.
Paresh is the first one to sing and he choosed Khubakoo- mujhe tu nazar aaye from Dil Maange more. Good singing, good style and presentation- a little weak on some lower notes but overall a good performance.
The mentometer reads 7,8. HR says that paresh is now not just performance but good singing. Shahid and Amrita both praise the singer (I am not going to mention their comments from the next singer because it was more or less same for everyone- will mention if there is something diff.).
Ujjaini sings Saiyanji…have not heard the song earlier but she does a good job- trying to bring the nautiness of the song- good control over voice and her voice did sound nice. Good energy…..i think she needs to be a little less nervous.
The mentometer- 8,8. HR is happy with her performance and says that she is reaching her best and one more of the black performance and she would have made it. Amrita says that with due respect to the original singer- she wishes that she would have sung this song.
Vinit, the star of Rock gharana is the next one to perform and he obviously gets one of the most popular song from Himesh- Yeh dil…..from Dil maange more….a sonu song which needs a lot of control- and I did think that he lost it in some places- he missed the beat by fractions but picked it up. His voice did not sound too great. (may be I was comparing him with Sonu).
The mentors gave him 8,9. HR was as usual all praise for him- saying that his voice would suit all current heroes. Shahid said that it was brave for him to attempt this difficult song.
Next gharana to perform is Yalgaar and its challengers are Twinkle, Debojit and Nihira.
Twinkle is the first one and chooses Hum deewano ki..from Ishq vishq……….i did not like her singing- I thought she was trying too hard- no problem with the sur or beat but her voice did not sound good- putting too much emphasis on expression- I think she is going downhill.
The mentometer does not quite agree with me and she gets 8,8. ID is happy with her performance and says that the others are jealous and he thinks she should have gotten better but the audience knows everything.
Debojit sings another popular number – Ek main hoon from Fida- good beginning and he sings the dialogue bits really well- "oh ya" with a heavy voice and accent sounded really good. I thought he was singing the rest of the song also in a little dialogue kind- he tried to move around and shake a little as well- good control over his voice.
The mentometer reads 9,10. HR says that the cap is probably doing the trick and it is not fair (as if only vinit has got the copyright to wear a cap- btw all the boys were wearing casual clothes with caps). ID said that he wants to hug him today for wonderful singing.
Nihira is the last one from this gharana and chooses a romantic number from Shahid and Amrita's debut film- Dheere Dheere…….. As usual, perfect sur, perfect pitching- flawless singing but I think she was a little nervous because of the last day's results- needs to work on her expression.
The mentors gave her 8,8. ID said that she was perfect. Amrita said that her voice quality is fabulous and shahid added that singing romantic song is the toughest and if you can sing this well you can sing the rest.
The last gharana is Jai ho and the singers from AS's gharana are Rajiv, Himani and Hema.
Rajiv is the first one to take the stage- and sings Nazar nazar from Fida and messes up a lot. It is pretty evident that there is lot of difference between him and the other singers- his un trained voice and sur is clear- and though he does well in the higher notes, he barely manages the rest. Nothing much to comments except his voice quality is good but singing poor.
The mentometer, this time, agrees with me and he gets 6,7. AS just says that he has got a good voice and the people love it.
Himani, the top singer this week, sings Chale jaise hawain from Main hoon na. Chose a song which suits her voice completely and does justice to it. I thought she could have a little more energy- but singing wise- expression voice very good. The bindaas attitude is very evident.
The mentometer does justice and she gets 9, 10. AS says very good but he is scared as the public does not seem to like trained voices.
The last singer for the day is Hema and picks the title song from Ishq vishq….. Most original singing and as Shaan puts in later that when Hema sings the song – one can never make out the original singer- he is absolutely original. Good harkats, good singing- somehow it did not seem to suit Shahid- but hema put in lot of expressions as well- lot of high notes in the song- his transistion from the lower to higher was not that good- from higher to lower was perfect, excellent.
The mentors give him 8, 9. AS is happy with his performance.

We were also shown clippings of the contestant's home, family,
friends…..all praising their contestant (not for all of them but for some)

The show ended with Shahid, amrita and the team of Vah life….wishing
the singers and SGMP all the best.

the intro song was raat baaki baat baaki
all the singers were singing it well except rajeev and paresh

shaan announced that the no of votes crossed 50 lakhs
but did not give separate figures for sms and internet
i guess the amount of SMSes have dipped from last week 35 lakh


then shaan started calling out the all the participants according to the gharana
first it was HR gharana

vineet got a green
paresh also got a green

then the yellow light flashed on ujjaini
she was disappointed

hr said to ujaaini that she will be safe its my gut feel

then the two boys started singing
First Paresh came to sing
ek paal ka jeena from KNPH
paresh disappointed his singing was totally out of diction and sur

vineet janaabe ali from bardaasht
vineet was consistent but i would say that he did not sing well his voice lacks the maturity

then it was the turn of AS gharana

hema got green
rajeev got yellow
himani got green

in the performances

hema - main aisa kyun hoon (lakshya)
hema was flawless in his singing

himani sang baras jaa ae badal baras jaa
himani sang with a lot of passion her singing was really good

then it was the turn of ID gharana
debojit got green (21%)
then nihira got green (16%)
so twinkle again became trishanku

debojit sang beautifully yesterday he was hitting the high octaves perfectly
nihira ishq khudayiii rab ne banayii from rudraksh
nihira i would say was mechanical in her singing
perfect as always but without much emotion

all the 3 trishanku singers came on to stage next

he had control over his sur but his voice kept on breaking

the surprise was ujjaini

easily the best song of the day
full of control emotion and range

twinkle sang chori chori chupke chupke sar se sraka jaaye dupatta bemann re from popcorn khao mast ho jaao
twinkle sang well but not upto the mark of the others

then came the turn of the three trishankus
first of all the highest among the 3 was ujjaini
she got 7.0%

then shaan told that rajeev was voted out(4.98%)
twinkle got 5.4% and started crying
