SRGMP Challenge 2005-1st Elimination Round: Episode 6

The last of the first elimination round -

The contestants who have reached the second round are :

The first contestant-Sreekumar - Yeh dil tum bin from Izzat- his voice is good but singing had a lot of flaws- also lack of energy.

Annie -Aa bhi jaa – ok singing – good on the higher notes but not very impressive.

Irfan - Aaya Hoon mai from Mission Kashmir- a very energetic song and he lacked that- good control over sur but not his kind of song.

Sanchari- Udate Pawan ke from Shagird. She has got a very sweet voice and the sur was pukka but somehow since the voice is in the changing stage- she sounded a litlle strange- voice cracking at points………..but good singing with good expressions.

Shripartho -Dil gaya dil - lot of energy but not much control over sur

Anindita - Dhadak Dhadak from Bunty aur babli- did not like her voice too much- problem with sur specially on higher notes - but good energy

Dilshad - Kaali ghata chhaayi from kaali ghata- very good rendetion- chose a song which suited his voice- soulful singing.- though did feel a little breathing problem.

Priyani - Aao na.gale lagaao na- good expressions, good voice- but voice throw probably needs to be better and consistent.

The judgement for the day- Among the girls there was tie between Sanchari, Anindita and Priyani but the mentors consulted and chose anindita and priyani. Among boys Dilshaad and Irfan were selected.

Today the boys will be divided into the four gharanas. Apart from the 12 selected boys- Nakash, Paresh, Sharib, Hemachandra, Nanu, Niladri, Aishwarya, Bhumik, Abhijeet, Vishwanath, Irfan and Dilshaad; there are two standby participants also-Vishwaas and Rajeev.

The first round is the guru round- there are chits with the names of all the four mentors. A representative from the audience will pick up the chit and the mentor whose name is written will be given the chance to pick up the contestant of their choice.

ID is the chosen one and he picks Niladri.

Niladri sings-aashiq hun main from Badshaah – I am not too impressed with his singing- lot of diction problem as well. Wonder why he is the first choice.

Next is AS and he chooses Hemachandra.

He sings- Haan ye hi rasta hai from Lakshya- good choice by AS- powerful voice and good sur.

Next is HR and he selects Dilshaad

Dilshaad sings Is tarah ashiqui ka asar from Imtihaan – good singing, chose a song of his kind but I think his breathing is little too prominent in his singing.

JL get the last chance and pick up Abhijeet.

Abhijeet sings- Tu yaar tu hi dildaar from Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani. Not his kind of song but managed well- good sur but not enough energy.

Now the next round which is Shishya Round where the name of the contestant will be picked up, through chits, by representatives from the public and then the contestant will choose the gharana.

Vishwanath selects AS and sings Jeene ke hain chaar din from Mujshe shaadi karogi. Ok singing but I don't find anything new in his voice.

Nanu chooses HR and sings Marhaba marhaba from Musafir. Good singing though it is not his style of song.

Bhumik chooses JL and sings O humdum suniyo ve from Sathiya. Not very impressive, the song has got a very good feel, which was not evident in this.

Paresh is by default in ID's gharana. He sings Has ke to dekh from Hum Tum. Good song selection and energetic singing.

Next is Sobhagya Round where the wild card entrants (Winners from the last SGMP shows) will sing and if the mentors are not satisfied with them then they might have to compete with the standby contestants. The four contestants are Debojit, Prashant, Saptak and Vineet.

Debojit - Kaisi hai yeh rut from Dil Chahta hai- good voice and good feel.

Prashant -Yaaron sun from Rok sako to rok lo- not very impressive

Saptak –Not sure of the song- but he has got Kishore kind of voice.

Vineet -Dil maangta hai dildaar soniye from Mujhse shaadi karogi. Good, confident performance.

Vineet, Saptak and debojit go through to the next round but Prashant will have to compete with Rajeev and Vishwaas.

The gharanas of these are decided through chits-Vineet gets HR, Saptak JL and Debojit gets ID.

The remaining participants (unlucky ones) will be divided in the gharanas through Diksha Round where the contestant will sing their song and can be made to compete with the standbys.

Nakash -Sun zara from Lucky………..not very impressive- a very soft number but not sung that softly with feelings.

Sharib - Dil dooba from Khakee- not his kind of song but managed ok.

Aishwarya - Prem nagarya ki from Chalte chalet- good energy

Irfan -Rut aa gayi re from 1947….Good song selection and a controlled performance.

Nakash is not selected and will have to sing with the standbys.

Prashant, Nakash, Rajeev and Vishwaas will compete for the final selection

Prashant competes with Rajeev- both sing Aisa zakhm diya haifrom Akele hum akele tum. Rajeev has got more feel in his voice and AS likes his voice quality and selects him.

Turn for Vishwaas and Nakash. They sing- Sach keh raha hai deewana from Rehna hai tere dil mein. Vishwaas is better and is selected.

Now the gharanas for Vishwaas, Sharib, Aishwarya and Irfan.

AS – Vishwaas, JL - Sharib, HR -Aishwarya, ID - Irfan.

Final gharanas for the boys

AS- Hemachandra, Vishwanath, Rajeev, Vishwaas

HR- Dilshad, Nanu, Vineet, Aishwarya

JL- Abhijeet, Bhumik, Saptak, Sharib

She sings kuch na kaho and does a good job as usual.

Next is HR and he takes Joyeeta.

Joyeeta sings kajrare from Bunty aur babli- good song selection as this suits her voice.

AS is the next one and chooses Hemabindu who sings Dil toh udne laga from Tum

JL is the unlucky one and gets the last choice and selects Sanchali

Sanchali sings bhaage re man from Chameli- good singing.

Now the next round which is Shishya Round where the contestant's name will be picked up, through chits, by representatives from the public and then the contestant will choose the gharana

Himani – AS and sings-chori chori chupke chupke …..sar se sarka jaye…makes good use of her powerful voice- good voice and good throw.

Swananda – Jl and sings thoda sa pagla from aur pyar ho gaya- sweet voice and sang the song very well.

Twinkle-ID –not sure of the song she sings. But she was quite good with good expressions.

Supriya by default gets HR and sings chup chup ke from B & B

Ujjaini - Kaisi paheli hai from Parineeta-good performance but a little restrained

Rakhtima sings bechainiyan betaabiyan- ok but a little nasal

Keka sings dil pe chaane laga hai nasha pyar ka- she has got a very powerful voice and the song chosen was right for her voice.

Vineeta sings Ishq khudai rab ne banayi – another powerful voice- did not imagine that such a powerful voice will come out of such frail body.

Keka is made to compete with standbys. And the remaining three are inducted into their gharanas

Ujjaini -JL

Vineeta –ID

Rakhtima-AS.

The remaining participants (unlucky ones) will be divided in the gharanas through Diksha Round where the contestant will sing their song and can be made to compete with the standbys.

BanJyotsna – not sure of the song but did not like her voice much

Priyani - bach ke tu rehna - very good expressions- I thought she sang very well

Manjeera -Mujhe rang de – Did not like her voice quality- competent singing.

Anindita -Nikal chali be- her voice suited this kind of song and she sang well but I have doubts about how she will be in other songs,

Banjyotsana is singled out and will have to perform with the standby. The rest three are given a go ahead. Now Banjyotsna and Keka compete with the standbys.

Banjyotsna and Sanchari both sing Baahon mein chale from Anamika- Sanchari's voice was very sweet and her sur pukka but I think her expressions were not that good. Banjyotsna did put in lot more expression and was good….so she was selected.

Keka competed with Neeta pandey. They sang Mai kudi anjaani -

Neeta is not very good, it is Keka kind of song and she sings well and is selected.

AS - Keka, JL - Manjeera, HR - Priyani, ID - Anindita.

So the final gharanas

AS- Hemabindu, Himani, Raktima, Keka, Hemachandra, Vishwanath, Rajeev, Vishwaas

HR- Joyeeta, Supriya, BanJyotsna, Priyani, Dilshad, Nanu, Vineet, Aishwarya

JL- Sanchali, Swananda, Ujjaini, Manjeera, Abhijeet, Bhumik, Saptak, Sharib

ID- Nihira, Twinkle, Vineeta, Anindita, Niladri, Paresh, Debojit, Irfan

4^th august

These are the contestant who took part in this episode-

Himesh reshamaiya- Nanu and Supriya
Aadesh Srivastava- Vishwas and Raktima
Ismail Durbar- Debojit and Nihira
Jatin Lalit- Saptak and manjira


The judges were Shiv kumar and hari prasad chaurasia.(shiv-hari)

The songs sung by the participants-

Nanu- (i don't remember so anyone please fill this one) *but he sang ok .....faltered a little.

Supriya- Dheeme dheeme gaon from zubeida.....sang well..in the sur but without any feeling...i thought the playful song became very very serious one. I think she might be nervous and was singing very carefully but in that she lost the whole mood of the lovely song by rahman

All the mentors said that these singers performed much better than earlier and it was evident that himesh had worked on them.

Vishwas- Sanson mein sanson ko from Hum tum....sang the upper notes very well was a little unsure on the lower notes....but the voice overall sounded very good.

Raktima- Jiya jale....very very ordinary.....not impressive at all

The mentors praised vishwas a lot and jatin lalit said that his HUM TUM Lines sounded even better than the orginal one.

Debojit- Kuch mere dil ne kaha....i thought he sang very well...

Nihira- Kehna hai kya from Bombay- she sang well but she is suppose to be the best female singer in the competition...i don't think she sang that well....

The judges praised nihira very much and jatin lalit thought debojit did not have finishing.

Saptak- mujhe kuch kehna hai- he was again good at the higher notes but not so good in the lower one.

Manjira- Kesariya from Lekin....difficult song ...sang ok but somehow her voice did not sound too good..also faltered at some point.
Ismail darbar said that he was not impressed with these two.

5^th August

The six singers from the friday's episode competed against each other out of which 4 of them got green card and the two singers were shown red cards meaning they are out of the competition.

The singers-

Nanu (HR)- Na jatko julf se ....sang ok.

Supriya(HR)- Abke sajan sawan mein from chupke chupke.....sang it well but faltered in some place with regard to sur...the playfulness of the song was missing.

The mentors said that nana sang ok but jatinlalit mentioned that they noticed that there was a strange quiver in his voice. Supriya was ok, ismail was not impressed. Himesh said that he had selected some other song for nanu but nanu wanted to change it two hours ago and it is himesh's fault and he should not have allowed nanu to change it.

Saptak (JL)- Ye jawani hai diwani........sang good but aping kishore completely.

Manjira (JL)- Tore naina form Lekin....i think she sang very well...very strong on the classical bit and also with lot of feelings. I think she was the best of the day.

Aadesh said that the singers should make effort to have their own style and not copy someone (regard to saptak). Himesh did not comment saying it may sound biased. Ismail said that the songs chosen were very good but he did not like their singing.

Debojit (ID)-Tum jo mil gaye ho.....sang ok but i thought he sang better on the last day.

Aadesh thought it was good, jatin/lalit said that the rendetion was different from the orginal one and the romance in the song was missing. Himesh thought it was good.

Raktima (AS)- Tere liye palkon ki chadar.....i did not like her rendetion..it is a very soft romantic song but i thought she was just delivering the right notes.

Jatin/Lalit said that the song is sung in a very soft voice and whispering tone which was missing. Himesh just made a pt that the singers should not think that they are bieing criticised because they are from other gharana but for their good. Ismail darbar liked the performance.

Finally the judges- shiv hari gave their verdict- supriya and saptak were out.

Saptak was very sad and kept on crying...jatin lalit said that though he was out of the gharana, he can come anytime along with the other participants.

11^th August

Hi all saregama lovers...

These are the contestant who took part in yesterday's episode-
Jatin Lalit- &nbs p; Swananda and Bhumik
Himesh reshamaiya- Banjyotsana and Dilshaad
Ismail Durbar-   ; ; Twinkle and Niladri
Aadesh Srivastava- hemabindu and Rajeev

The judges were Alka yagnik and jagjit singh

JL-
Swananda- Kabhi neem neem from yuva- she sang quite well, delicate voice though she did go strange in some places but overall impressive
Bhumik- Ramta Jogi from Taal.....sang very very ordinary- without any feeling.. I think the mood of the song was completely missing and he was singing very consciously- seemed nervous.

Aadesh said that swananda was good but bhumik was not good as lot was expected from him. Himesh said that it seemed that jatin lalit had done work on these. Ismail said that bhumik had chosen wrong song, and was not good, swananda had chosen a good song but could not do justice to it.

HR -
Banjyotsana- Ishq kabhi Kariyo na… I thought she sang bad
Dilshaad- I don't know the song so please fill in if somebody knows it....sang quite well…is voice is very suited for sad kind of songs.

The mentors were not impressed with banjyotsana. Jatin lalit said that Dilshaad should try some different kind of song.

ID-
Twinkle- saiyan chodo mora baiyan.. she sang with too much of expressions- I thought her sur was going pretty haywire. Last time she had sung very well but was a disappointment this time.
Niladri- Chood aaye hum from Macchis ...very ordinary again- I think he needs to also work on his pronunciation…also when he singing in the lower notes his voice could be hardly heard

The mentors were not impressed. Himesh said that Niladri voice will sound very good in recording studio even if he was not good today.

AS-
Hemabindu- Piyu bole from parineeta- Not good again…the whole feeling of the song was missing and also lost the sur in places
Rajeev- Khali dil nayoo from kacche dhage....superb beginning…but soon lost the sur as well as the taal..pretty bad after that but his voice is very powerful and I think if he is little careful he can go till far.

The mentors said that hema was ok, but ismail darbar said that when Rajeev started singing he thought that this guy is going to be the winner but sadly he was pretty bad after that.

The winner among the girls was Swananda. Alka said that banjyotsana was trying to ape the singer in voice as well as mannerism which is not good as individuality is important. Also twinkle had too much of expression- more on the face than in singing. Twinkle said that she thought she sang very well. Ismail said twinkle don't worry you are the best. She said that her aim is not to just become a playback..singer but also a performer. Himesh said that first one has to be singer and then performer. Jatin lalit was annoyed and said that so much overconfidence in a newcomer is not good, when they were new they used to shiver before meeting people. Swananda kept on crying and jagjit said that why was she crying as she was the winner. Swananda said that she did not expect to win as she thought she did not sing upto her potential and will improve.
The winner among the boys was Dilshaad. Even Jagjit mentioned that Rajeev started very good but was letdown after that and should be careful as he had missed the taal as well. Himesh said that since dilshaad's strong point was this genre of songs- he will continue to guide him in that way.

Tomorrow the remaining six singers who got yellow card today will compete.
