Hi Ananya, the word devata is used in two senses. One is the adityas in swarg, whose king is Indra. Others are those, who are higher than these adityas. As you quoted from B.G., Arjun says to Krishna
"tvam adidevah purushah puranah"
So Arjun called Krishna as Adi dev. This way even Krishna becomes a dev. But definitely he cannot be put in the same category as Indra and other devtas. I am not saying that you are putting him in the same category. My only argument is that just because the word devta can be used for Vishnu also, we cannot claim that the BG verse according to which devtas are seen in Krishna includes Vishnu also among those devtas because we have to see the context to know correct meaning of a word. Yes Vaman is an Aditya. But he is an incarnation of Vishnu. A claim, which can be made regarding Vaman, cannot necessarily be made regarding original Vishnu.

The Devtas are Lord Indra, Vayu, Agni, etc. Lord Vishnu is not a 'devta'. He is part of the Trimurti

I too have the same opinion as Lalitha, Devtas are the demigods like Indra, Vayu etc......

Here I assume, that they made a generalizrd statement that Vishnu is not a devta but a part of Trimurti.

I agree, in the verse: pasyami devams...
we cannot say that Arjuna saw Vishnu along with other devtas, if he had seen he'd mention it explicitly just as he mentioned Brahma seated on lotus.
Hope my point is clear now.

U r right Ananya, I did categorize Vishnu among the "Trimurti" and not the "Devta". Thnx for correcting me there.
