To find out more about the versions of Uttarkand, see here and here.

Given that the Sagars are following versions of the Ramayan that few are familiar with, what would you have liked to see them follow from the above list, so that you wouldn't have been horrified at some of the things shown to date?

I wanted Valmiki Ramayan to be used as the prime source. Of course, if some version has something, which is not in Valmiki Ramayan, but at the same time, which does not contradict Valmiki Ramayan, then showing that is fine with me.
So adding onto Valmiki Ramayan with the help of other forums is fine. But contradicting Valmiki Ramayan is not.

I'd prefer Valmiki's or Kamban's Ramayan - they are not much different. I agree that there are differences between the two.

But Uttar Kand was not written by Kamban so here that option is something I cannot chose here. In Tamil, Uttar Kand was written by Ottakoothar - a book I have been searching for a long time but never found 😭

I almost agree with akhl. Valmiki Ramayan can be used as the prime source and additions from other Ramayan can be made as long as it does not contradict the Valmiki Ramayan. I'd prefer this but if the Sagars want to create something that is not strictly Valmiki Ramayan, let it be logical and coherent.

If I can vote twice, it will be Valmiki Ramayan and then Any combination of the other versions.

Thanks for your inputs. I agree w/ both Akhl & Vibs.

Setting up this poll was somewhat difficult, given what I wanted to ask. Some like me may prefer a pure Valmiki approach, with the only additions being that which does not contradict Valmiki. Some may prefer very specific combinations, while most people who'd prefer one of the above sources may not mind Valmiki as well. At one point, I thought about enabling multiple poll, but that makes it more difficult to decipher the results. R-f polls have only 10 choices, or I might have specifically listed out some combos, like Valmiki/Kamban and so on.

If one prefers Valmiki AND another version, say Kamban or Tulsidas, select the last option. Too bad I can't edit the above choices, or else I would have made that Kamban/Ottakoothar. Otherwise, only select the favorite version that you'd have liked to see this serial based on.

I would like Valmiki version as others. and also as avinash said would like that extra information from other source be added as far as it could not contradict Valmiki version. I would also like sagar to show RAM-GITA from adhyatm Ramayan and Journey of horse from Padm puran in this Uttar Ramayan.

Thanks, Rajnish, for your inputs. Although doesn't the horse battle somewhat conflict with Valmiki, given the following:

1. In Valmiki, Lakshman is the one who accompanies the horse, and that passes w/o incident, as opposed to Padma Puran, where you had Shatrughan and Pushkal;

2. The reason Kush & Luv end up in Naimisharanya is that Valmiki was among the rishis invited there, and he takes them with him. (One thing I'm curious about - does he take Sita as well?)

3. As for Rama Gita, does it include the war? I know that between Ramayan and RCM, a lot changed about details of the war, such as Indrajit dowing Lakshman in the latter, vs Ravan downing Lakshman in the former.

Vibs

While Kamban & Valmiki may be identical, I recall reading in C Rajagopalacharya that Shurpanakha's attempted seduction of Rama was quite a different story in Kamban than it was in Valmiki. Are there any other differences?

I'd like the serial to be based on Valmiki Ramayan some scenes from Kamban Ramayan , Ramcharitmanas yes even some scenes of Adhyatma Ramayan. I think the only thing the serial followed, religiously from Valmiki Ramayan is Agnipariksha episode in which Sitaji's dialogues word-to-word were from yuddha kand chapt 118, which I was very happy they followed. Uttarkand of Valmiki, apart from some injected story is very simple and it should have been followed... Agree with all of you. As far as contradictions are not given space any sane version's combinations will do along with Valmiki Ramayan.

I like Valmiki and Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas, so either would have been fine for me.

I had read that Valmiki took only Lav and Kush with him to Naimisharanya. He brought Sita later when Ram sent a message that she should be brought to Naimisharanya and take the oath again.

I think Rama Gita is just a collection of all that Ram tells Lakshman - the stories and teachings.

As you said, the war details had been changed a lot. Especially, when Lakshman was the one who took the Shakthi that was meant for Vibhishan upon himself whereas in Rama Charita Manasa, it was Ram himself who does that.

Will get back with the details of Kambaramayan.
