If I may, I'll address your last para first. This is a generic comment - anybody who gains their 'knowledge' of the epics from movies, serials, dramas, et al, are really being sheeple, given that all these presentations, and that's what they are, are interpretations of the original, and in most cases, stray badly from the original text. Also, the argument by the Sagars that the most authentic Ramayan can be obtained not from Valmiki alone, but from a selective composite of all (Indian) Ramayans ever written, is an argument that begs to be lambasted!
In this case, if anybody/some people end up knowing whatever they know of the Ramayan from watching this serial, they need to be disabused of that very quickly. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing how many there are. The good thing is that it will be a subset of the TRPs, and given how the TRPs are in the tank, it means that very few people will be using this serial for their source of what happened in the Ramayan.

The way Luv and Kush were portrayed in the 8 May episode was shocking. It was really disgusting to show that on seeing gold Luv and Kush were tempted so much that getting gold became their priority over getting the swarn-kamal. Their guru Valmiki, who has been taking care of them since their birth, is in the danger of losing his punya karmas if Luv, Kush do not bring swarn-kamal to the ashram in time. For the first time Baba said that they should go to Kuber-lok fast. But what do Luv, Kush do? They no longer consider it so important to get the swarn-kamal. But getting gold becomes their aim. When they do not find anything else to drop in water, then they drop their bows, which were given to them by their guru. On seeing the golden bows, they become so greedy that they lie that the bows belonged to them.
Yeah, the same kids, who a few episodes ago, spurned offers of food and water b'cos it was important to get to Alkapuri and back within 15 days, suddenly, on seeing a mere tree laden with fruit, forget about their goals. What is this - a magic grove? Uptil now, Hanuman had been an impediment in their quest - delaying them at every turn at the behest of Shiva Vidhi, and finally, when he does share their sense of urgency, how do they suddenly go astray? And wouldn't Luv - having been trapped by the allure of that treasure room when he was king, be more wary of this now?
The other ugly aspect of this story is the depiction of Shiva, and to a lesser extent Hanuman, as sadists who subject 2 pre-teens to tests that even adults would have difficulties passing!😡

On one hand, the title song uses various glorifying words for Luv and Kush, Valmiki and other ashram-vasis are shown praising them no less. And on the other hand, Luv, Kush are shown to be liars and greedy.
Yup, what is more disgusting was their willingness to drop their bows in the river, and even worse, lie about which one was theirs. Like Chen noted, it reflected badly on both Sita and Valmiki as well. What's the point of this depiction?😡

Imagine somebody, who does not have knowledge of Uttar Ramayan and watches this serial to gain the knowledge? Will he not get a completely distorted picture of the epic? After all, this is not how Valmiki has portrayed Luv and Kush. In Valmiki Ramayan, it is written that Luv and Kush sang Ramayan so beautifully that people showered them with riches. But Luv and Kush politely declined saying that those riches were of no use to sanyasis.
Actually, in the original Valmiki, K-L simply did whatever they were told to do by Valmiki. They declined the 18000 gold coins offered by Lakshman because they were explicitly so instructed. This is not to deny your contention that they weren't greedy, but rather, to point out that they were normal kids with divine voices, with which they immortalized the epic in song. The original has little about how they were actually raised by Sita and Valmiki, but it paints them as normal kids who were born, and after 12 years, were brought to Rama's yagna to sing Valmiki's composition.
