ok i was not knowing tht sitaji was decked in jewels when she first met Ramji after being freed from ashok vatika ,as per valmiki RAMAYAN !!!!

as far as i know, ram asked sita to be brought all dressed up and the bhibhisan arranged accordingly but motehr sita refused to change into royal dresses before seeing hr lord ram, who still was weariing a hermits attire

ya thats true... Bt its really confusing coz how cld sitaji be dressed as rajkumari when she is in vanvas time
so its gud that they showed her in vanvasi look ..

I think we're blowing things 'out of proportion' regarding Ma Sita's clothes.......Nothing wrong if she wears a royal attire, specially when Shri Rama instructs Vibhishana that she be present in public in clothes and jewellery 'befitting' to a woman of royal family.

There are some verses in Valmiki Ramayan that state Mata Sita wearing SILK in Vanvas, some verses are given below:

At many places in Valmiki Ramayana, silk is mentioned as 'Kausheya'.

Sita wore Kausheyam.

Here are a few verses on kausheyam, from Valmiki Ramayana.

Sita was sighted by Ravana as wearing a silk attire.

(from Aranya khanda)

sa taam padma palaasha akSiim piita kausheya vaasiniim |
abhyagacChata vaidehiim hR^iSTa cetaa nishaa caraH || 3-46-13

Here, 'piita kausheya vaasiniim' means "ochry, silks, wearing".

Sita was wearing Kausheya at the time of abduction.

"tapta aabharaNa varNa angii piita kausheya vaasanii |
raraaja raaja putrii tu vidyut saudaamanii yathaa ||" ( 3-52-14)

piita kausheya vaasanii= ocherish, in silks, dressed;

(meaning :-.That princess Sita scintillated like the oblique flashes of lightning in a cloud, owing to her golden coloured body which is muffled up with jewellery of pure gold, and added with a golden coloured ocherish silky dress, while traversing in the sky.)

In Kishkindha khandam,

Sampathi describes to the vanaras the abduction of Sita.

He mentions that Sita was wearing superior kausheyam.

"suurya prabhaa iva shaila agre tasyaaH kausheyam uttamam |
asite raakSase bhaati yathaa vaa taDit a.mbude ||" ( 4-58-17)

tasyaaH uttamam kausheyam= her, best, ochry silk sari;

(meaning :- Upper fringe of Sita's silk attire with golden glitter is upheaved in the sky, and with the reddish hue of sun in red heat of midday it beamed forth like a reddish cloud. )

Sita dropped the jewels wrapped in her upper garment of kasuheyam while she was being abducted.

"teSaam madhye vishaalaakSii kausheyam kanaka prabham |
uttariiyam varaarohaa shubhaani aabharaNaani ca || 3-54-2
mumoca yadi raamaaya sha.mseyuH iti bhaaminii |"

(meaning :- 2, 3a. vishaalaakSii= broad-eyed one; varaarohaa= curvaceous lady; bhaaminii= lady with resentment; kanaka prabham kausheyam uttariiyam= golden, in hue, silk sari, upper cloth; shubhaani aabharaNaani ca= auspicious, ornaments, also; raamaaya= to Rama; shamseyuH yadi= they indicate, if [they may]; iti= thus [on thinking]; teSaam madhye mumoca= their, amid, released - dropped.

That broad-eyed and curvaceous lady with resentment Sita, inwrapping her auspicious ornaments in the upper-fringe of her sari, dropped in the midmost of those five Vanara-s with a thinking that 'these creatures may perhaps indicate them to Rama.' [3-54-2, 3a])

Hermit clolthes can be Silken. Sita Ma's clothes were jute made n yellow-saffron colour. This was gifted to Her by Anusuya

Sita Ma didnt wear any royal onaments when she entered Agni. But when she came out of Agni she was dressed like Laxmi Ma. But sagar didnt show it. It was upsetting

Thus spoke the Self-existent Sire:
Then swiftly from the blazing pyre
The circling flames were backward rolled,
And, raising in his gentle hold
Alive unharmed the Maithil dame,
The Lord of Fire embodied came.
Fair as the morning was her sheen,
And gold and gems adorned the queen.
Her form in crimson robes arrayed,
Her hair was bound in glossy braid.
Her wreath was fresh and sweet of scent,
Undimmed was every ornament.

I agree that Sita Devi was wearing the clothes gifted by Mother Anusuya when she was kidnapped by Ravan. But Sita was brought to Ram in royal finery.

For the same translation, (Griffith's)

And thus to King Vibhshan cried:
'Let St bathe and tire her head
And hither to my sight be led
In raiment sweet with precious scent,
And gay with golden ornament.'

The Rkshas king his palace sought,
And St from her bower was brought.
Then Rkshas bearers tall and strong,
Selected from the menial throng,
Through Lank's gate the queen, arrayed
In glorious robes and gems, conveyed.
Concealed behind the silken screen,
Swift to the plain they bore the queen,

But I'm not sure if it was the same jewels and royal silks or Sita Devi came out of the fire with different clothes.

Thanks for all those welcoming messages. Nice to be with so many Ramayan fans.

Well, actually speaking Maa Sita would have been right in both situations, whether she wore royal dresses and jewellery or not - I think.

If she wore them, she was just obeying her Lord's instructions. Also she was not sent on exile. So it was not hard and fast rule on her that she should not wear them.

And if she did not wear them, she was following her "Pativrata Dharma", that since her Lord was still in hermit's clothes she too remained that way. And different versions of Ramayan may pose it differently.

As per Anusuya its not Adharma to wear silken or jute robes or onaments during vanwass. Sita Ma used to wore divine ornamets given by Anusuya n floral onaments during vanwas. Even Dasrath too gave her onaments n garments when they were leaving for forest
