One verse from Ayodhya Kand , where Manthara is persuading Kaikeyi that she should stop Rama's naming as crown prince, she says :

pratyaasannakrameNaapi bharatastaiva bhaamini |
raajyakramo viprakR^ishhTastayostaavatkaniiyasoH || 2-8-7

"Oh Kaikeyi! In line with even the proximity of birth; the claim to the throne of Bharata alone can be pressed, that of Lakshmana and Satrughna who are younger is out of question."

Hope this will clear your doubts.

You know I really dont like it when there are sooo many different versions of 1 story. Why dont we have just one version?

Anyways, I get your point. Thanks for giving the explanation, Chandra.

Exit Question: All the 4 brothers, werent the born on the same day? mayb on different time? If you say that BLS were born on the same day, ie that Rama was born how many days before them?

Rimi , there are as many as 300 versions of Ramayana.😳 Each versions have included various stories which are not consistent with one another.
I think its in Ramcharitmanas all four brothers are in quick succession.

What I found was this verse:
AjAnulambibAhushcha mahAskandhaH pratApavAn .
lakShmaNAnucharo rAmaH pR^ithivImanvapAlayat.
O' highly dextrous Lakshmana, knower of what is right!! rule the earth with me as ruled by earlier kings, with the help of an able army. Installed as the crown prince bear the burden of this kingdom (with me)
verse 83
(Translations are not given on the site, they are mine)

Hey Ananya, did a great job in interpreting it. On valmikiramayan.net, I found the meaning and not the verse, and its the same as ur meaning. Hmmm Sanskrit Pundit.....................

Based on Valmiki Ramayan, the information was fed on the Planetarium Gold Software by Pushkar Bhatnagar and this is what the result was.....
Rama was born on the Navami tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra masa(9th day of the increasing phase of the moon in the lunar month of Chaitra). At that time, the nakshatra was Punarvasu, and Sun, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter and Venus were in Aries, Capricorn, Libra, Cancer and Pisces respectively. Lagna was Cancer and Jupiter & Moon were shining together. — Ramayana 1.18.8,9

The conditions can be summarised as follows:
1. Sun in Aries
2. Saturn in Libra
3. Jupiter in Cancer
4. Venus in Pisces
5. Mars in Capricorn
6. Lunar month of Chaitra
7. 9th day after New Moon (Navami Tithi, Shukla Paksh)
8. Moon near Punarvasu Nakshatra (Pollux star in Gemini constellation)
9. Cancer as Lagna (Cancer constellation rising in the east)
10. Jupiter above the horizon

The observations, when entered into Planetarium software gives us the above Sky Chart, which in turns gives forth the below mentioned date.

Sri Rama Navami - 10th January 5114 BC - 12.30 p.m.

Bharatha's birth is about 16 hours after birth of Rama - 11th January 5114 BC, 4.30 a.m.
Birth of Lakshman & Shatrughna are later during the day ie 11th January 5114BC, in the afternoon.

Hey...thnx. That's really interesting info!

Ram-Navami usually comes in March or April on the 10th day after the 9 days of Navaratri. Isnt it?

Ha ha, I will definitely note that Rajnish................ but I hope anyone who acquires more Vidhyas should follow this:
"Vidya dadaati vinayam, vinayaat yaati paatrataam,
Paatratvaat dhanaapnoti, dhanaat dharmam tatah sukham"
Sankrit Pandit ji (SPji) can you please translate this to your best. I would do it but my Sanskrit memory is fading...........😉 (now that I am a mother of a preschooler, all I remember is cartooons and rhymes 😛😆)

It does, somewhat, although I find it hard to regard Manthara's statements as factual sourcing. Nonetheless, if you know Sanskrit, I'm convinced that you're right that Rama doesn't refer to Lakshman as the eldest of the 3.
