@Arti,
Can you check the Kevat story from Ramcharitmanas? In that story Sita Ma gives her ring to Ramji, to give to Kevat. But Kevat refuses and Ramji keeps the ring with him. Later on when Hanuman goes to Lanka, Ramji gives him the ring to give to Sita, and that is how Sita Ma knows that Hanuman is a messenger of Rama.
Is this story how it's written in RCM, or does RCM not have the Kevat story either?
If Sita Ma had a ring on her finger, isn't it plausible that she had other minimal jewelry like a necklact and bangles? I just can't imagine Sita Ma without those because it was considered so inauspicious for married women to go without them.😕

^ janaki as per valmiki version king dhashrath ordered to keep the silk robes and jewellery for sitaji in the chariot considering the exile period ... she did wear silk garments and the jewellery on her MIL and FIL request and tht was dropped by her on the mountain

in the tuslidas version it is written sitaji wore the hermit clothes and rudraksh maala but yes both ramji and sitaji had minimal jewellery with them as sita gave her ring to the kevat ,,,, lord rama gave his ring to hanuman so tht sitaji could identify it and sitaji gave the chooramani ...these jewellery must be their mangal abhushan...auspicious jewellery...

So RCM mentions Anasuya giving Sitaji the jewels, but it doesn't mention Sugreev finding the jewels?😲 That's quite strange!😕 So does that mean Sitaji wore the jewels in Lanka, or is it a mistake in the translation of RCM by someone?

Yeah that's quite confusing.Confused Anyway, I like Valmiki Ramayan version of this story better. It makes more sense in my opinion.

besides sitaji was from janakpur or mithila which was part of nepal and outkirts of bihar traditionally nepalese dont have custom of wearinging mangalsutra its actually duboo ki maala or tilhari maala

I dont think it happens in whole Central India Arti, I also belongs from central India, Infact the most central part of central India 😆 Mangalsutra and Sindoor daan are the prominent custom of our family without which our marriages are not considered to be complete, and not only our Family but as many Marriages I have seen since my childhood I have found Mangalsutra as one of the most Important and Prominent custom for the completion of Marriages along with Sindoor Daan. Also Bichiyas and Bangles are also considered as the Important jewells of a Suhagan. I think it varies from family to Family, May be there are many families in SOuth India also who dont follow the custom of Mangalsutra 😕
I dont know, May be this cutom started from South India but it is also a very important custom in many families of central and North India!

seeya sakuch bas uttare na deyi , soo suni tamaki uthi kakeyi , munni pat bhushan bhaajan aani aagi dheere boli mrudu baani ..."

tht means sita was quite and didnt answered she was way too embarassed hearing all these conversations kakeyi grew angry she gave hermit clothes jewellery and vessels to lord rama and said...wear it and go to forest hernceforth...clearly tuslidas has mentioned the hermit jewellery ie. bhushan means jewelllery which is rudraksh maala hence ram lakshman and sitaji wore hermit clothes and jewellery...

then in chitrakoot wen sati ansuya looked at the royal princess in hermit jewellery she became restless and gave those jewellery to sitaji which sitaji dropped during her abduction...

there is full chapter in valmiki ramayana where dashratha asked to keep royal jewlleries for sitaji and then these jewelleries were dropped by her

since this one follow ramcharitmanas they made sitaji depart wearing the hermit jewellery...

and i remembered tht bichiya was mentioned in ramayana as lakshman could only recognize toe ring there so tht gives strong evidence tht sitaji wore bichiya toe ring as her mangal abhushan 😳

I still think Arti, that Sita was not completely devoid of the jewells. The sarga here tells us that Kaikayi asked them to put Hermit clothes but there is no specific line telling that she asked Sita to remove her gold Jewels (May be because she also know the importance of jewels for a Married woman)
So I think even after putting the hermit clothes and jewels, Sita kept the Minimal Jewellery required for a Suhagan, Like you mentioned of Bichiya here plus the Kevat story tells us that she was also wearing the Gold ring which gives us a mild view of her appearence, that even in the hermit clothes during vanvaas, SIta, for the sake of her Husband and Marriage kept the minimal Jewellery with her which is said to be necessary for a Married woman, like Bichiya, Bangles, Rings etc.
