ASYA Two Shot: Yeh Haldi
Zoya sat on her bed staring at her burned hands and sighed. She took her fingers and stroked her palm caressing his name softly. A small smile played on her lips as she remembered Asad applying medicine on her hands and how he blew the pain away. How his one gesture, one touch could wipe away all her pain. How he lovingly brushed the tears off her face, how he held her hands staring deep into her eyes almost touching her soul.
The pain was worth it for Mr Khan's one smile she told herself. The love and care that were overflowing from his eyes made Zoya feel like she had found the world's happiness. She would gladly take any pain that comes her way for the sake of her love, for her Mr Khan. She looked to her side and picked up her outfit for the haldi ceremony. She held it against her cheek; another ceremony that will indicate Asad's claim on her. Haldi is not just a coloured paste; it is a colour that indicates his love, it will spread onto her enhancing her beauty. It's true when they say love is one's best adornment, one's best jewellery.
She got up and walked into the bathroom to get dressed. Moments later she walked out dressed in her yellow and white patiala suit. The top was yellow and three quarter sleeved. The pants were white. Her hair was done back in a braid. She picked her duppata up from the bed and was about to go outside when the lights went off.
'Allah Miyaan yeh lights ko kya ho gaya?' She sighed. She jumped back when she heard a noise coming from the window, 'Ab yeh window ko kya ho gaya?' She said nervously, she heard the noise again before noticing a light shadow figure appear climbing in through the window. Zoya's eyes widened as she gulped, 'who's there?!' She asked. She got no response, just more noise. 'Hellooo, answer me… I er I know karate!' She said quickly in an attempt to scare off whoever it was. She looked towards the door and her cupboard, either she runs away now or fights him with her pepper spray. If she runs away, everyone will be in danger she thought to herself and she didn't want to worry anyone. She could also prove to Mr Khan that she doesn't need his muscles to save her every time. She ran for the cupboard only to have this intruder grab her hand and pull her back with force. She went flying back against his rock solid chest, this was it thought Zoya. Stop pretending to be brave,
'Mr Khan Cho-!' She felt his hand go over her mouth. Zoya's eyes widened and her shoulders tensed. Wait a minute, why does this touch feel so known, why is there familiarity to this intruder… Mr Khan.
'Main hoon…' He whispered into her ears, she shivered as she felt his warm breath against her neck.
'Aap?' She exclaimed as he removed his hand away from her mouth but his body remained glued to her.
'Miss Farooqui, you're not fighting. Who did you think it was?'
'Chor Mr Khan, Chor!!!' She breathed out, 'I was going to scream for help from you, but look aap hi nikle!' She smiled before acting shocked, 'haww! What are you doing here? We're not allowed to meet' she reminded him,
'Jaante hoon, I switched the lights off!' He said,
'Kyunnn?' Asad let go of her like he had been electrocuted, she asks too many kyuns.
'Ermm woh... Actually Miss Farooqui,' He started again, Zoya rolled her eyes as she turned around. She couldn't see his face, if it wasn't for his heavy breathing, she'd think she was alone in the room.
'Aap yahan Mr Khan... We're not allowed to meet like this either...' She said sadly, wait why is she sad? She should be happy; she thought she wouldn't see him until the nikaah day. Her lips curved into a smile as she waited for him to get past woh actually.
'Woh, yeh haldi...' He held a pot in front of her,
'Haldi? What haldi?' Zoya widened her eyes not being able to see anything; she put her hand out, only to feel his jawline. Zoya felt a current go through her body as her thumb brushed his bottom lip; he's smiling? She felt his hand go over hers and hold it tight pulling her closer to him. The next thing she felt was his warm breath on her face, she took in his scent feeling almost intoxicated. Her knees wobbled slightly as she held his shoulder for support,
'Yeh haldi...' He whispered,
'Yeh haldi kya' she whispered back so softly that she too wasn't sure she said it,
'Mein aapko pehle laaga na chahta tha...' He said finally as he dipped his hand into the pot and found his hand on her cheek. He applied it gently, his thumb stroking the same spot making sure it spread on her cheek properly. He took his hand back and waited for her response.
She held his shoulders tighter lifting herself upwards as she tiptoed on her feet, she stopped as she brought her cheek side to side with his,
'Kyun?' She whispered as she pressed her cheek against his cheek motioning it up and down to get the haldi to smear on his face. Asad tensed for a moment before wrapping his arms around her waist and held her tight pushing her against his body as her hands wrapped around his neck and her head rest at his shoulder,
'Kyunki mein aap se p' Asad was cut short by Dilshad's call. Zoya flung back, her heart was racing so fast she felt it threatening to burst out any second. She looked here and there moving back and forth before running for the door.
Asad stood there holding the haldi as his other hand touched his cheek,
'Kyunki mein aap se pyaar karti hoon... Zoya.' He smiled before turning towards the window. He stopped once he had one leg over the window ledge and looked back, 'aaj mein baata kar rahunga, yeh mere pyaar ka vaada hai... Kehne ke liye toh tum haar taraah mere pyaar mein rang gaye ho, lekin aaj uss unkahe baathon ko mein kehna chahta hoon.' And finish my long essay I prepared for you he thought as he laughed.
