Personally, I think the reason behind Asad opting for a suit rather than the kurta jeans outfit might be because it doesn't exude the required professionalism that his position demands since he owns his own business. Jeans and Kurta even for a public sector official is unacceptable.
As far as Asad's behavior with Najma is concerned he plays two roles with her one of her elder brother which we saw in the bread butter scene as well as the father, since Rashid abandoned his family. Furthermore, in certain muslim families in the absence of the father due to any reason whatsoever the eldest son takes over the place of the head of the family and since she didn't really have a father in her life Asad is that for her thus she asked permission for lounge from him and not her mother. I can assure you that this happens and in extreme conservative families almost like Asad's every small action requires approval from the head.Hard to accept but that's how it works. Though Islam does not oppress women the way the society has interpreted it. The thoughts and traditions are evolving and women are progressing too,
Conservative and male-dominating as it may sound this tradition still persists in the larger part of the muslim community.

Asad is going to work and thats why he is wearing a suit. You want to look professional and also blend in with everyone.

But some muslim guys wear what they want and don't let their sisters wear western clothing, they can become protective of them and don't want anyone to look at them. Im a muslim girl and I think that if you don't let your sister wear western clothes then you should do the same, both should wear eastern clothes then.

In our religion a girl should cover her self but some muslims don't act like mulims, both males and females, the kind of clothes the females tend to wear and both tend to have reationship which are not allowed in our religion and gives us a bad name. Don't know what is happening to muslims these days.

Well I wouldn't be going to my work place in Salwaar kameez 😆 it's not a hard concept to grasp, some places have a particular dress attire that needs to be followed. Schools where uniform is compulsory, you won't be able to wear your own clothes there! In a professional workplace, it's essential for you to wear formals and not jeans or even a kurta for that case, cos if you think about it a kurta is not exactly a formal attire. And tbh I and I'm sure many others would have found it odd for him to be wearing a kurta to office 🤔

In Islam, men & women should both dress decently. Both shouldn't wear tight clothing.
Jeans, kurta, salwar kameez, pants, suits, etc. has nothing to do with Islam/religion.

Honestly speaking, In Islam, women have more rights than men.

Women do have the right to wear whatever they want, but like I said, as long as it's decent & not tight. Same thing goes for men.

I hope I've answered your question correctly.

Edit: Asad did make a point thou. Something which I have always agreed on.

Just because the world is changing, it doesn't mean we should change ourselves for the world.

Would this so called world change for you ? <-- Lame dialogue ! 😆

Peace.

I think the jeans comment to his sister by Asad was intelligently included by writers. Zoya wears western clothes/jeans etc. So again this is highlighting the differences in the 2 characters and where they;ll clash in the future!!

okay I do not agree with you on this. Wearing jeans is not against Islam. Yes, wearing tight clothes and tight jeans is wrong but you can't just say wearing jeans is against Islam period. Wearing short clothes is against Islam but as long as your covered properly its okay. You have to be modest in what you wear. Please don't cause confusion for people about Islam. Thanks :)

I don't see anything wrong with Asad wearing a suit to office, instead of a Kurta and neither does it mean that he is being a hypocrite as some people are calling him. Like I already said some places have a particular dress attire that needs to be followed. In a school you have to wear uniform, in a workplace, it's essential to wear formals and tbh I don't really class a kurta as being formal, but that's just my POV. Some people may disagree :) But even when we go to parties, some may have a dress code and we follow that right?! So what's the big deal if he wore a suit instead of a kurta! Nothing got to do with his tehzeeb or him being a hypocrite. OH and let's not forget that in the previous episodes, he was at a DARGAH, hence we wore a kurta, cos that is a typical attire for going to a dargah. I'm not saying that you can't go to a dargah wearing a suit, but that would have looked odd right?! Just how it would look odd for him to be wearing a kurta to office. And tbh if he was wearing a kurta to office instead of a suit I would have surely found that odd 😆

As far as him telling his sister not to wear jeans, cos that goes against there tehzeeb, I have to say I initially found him being quite regressive, but definitely not a hypocrite! However that's his character, a traditional and conservative man, living in a traditional and conservative society! He's been portrayed as the father figure in the house, cos he's the only man and he's just trying to protect his little sister. I don't see anything wrong in that, even though I didn't like the fact that she wasn't allowed to wear jeans, but then sometimes it's important to adjust to the environment and society you are living in. I live in the UK and here I wear jeans all the time, my brother or my dad even don't say a thing to me about it, cos they are cool with it. However when I went to pakistan, I was encouraged not to, cos of the ppl there. And I didn't blame my family for doing that cos when I went out wearing jeans, I was at times given weird looks as if I was an alien! So it was better for me to be wearing salwaar kameez and my family was just being protective of me. Same goes for Asad, he doesn't want any harm coming to his sister, cos let's be honest women are more vulnerable than men.

OH and before I forget, no where in Islam does it say that you can't wear jeans 🤔 Yes there are requirements needed to be followed for a how women needs to dress, which are
;

1. They shouldn't wear tight clothes, that reveal their figure.
2. They should not be transparent.
3. They shouldn't be so much glamoured, that they attract the opposite sex.

These ^^ are the requirements and as long as you are following all these, it doesn't matter what you wear. And let's not forget that clothing is not a religious aspect, it's more of a cultural thing. I've seen non-muslims, not allowing their daughters/sisters to wear tight fitting or revealing clothes or even jeans, cos of their society and culture!

Anyway I think we should just stop being so picky about trivial things in the episode like what a character is wearing :)

Thats the whole point of the show! Thats Asad's character..a conservative Muslim man and his numaish dialogue and what he said to his sister proves that. The point of the show is to show that women in Islam actually do have more freedom than people think they do. As Asad and Zoya's bond deepens, I'm sure we'll see some change in the way his character thinks!

And agreed with Noma lol honestly I've never heard of jeans being forbidden in Islam..youre supposed to cover yourself and be modest in what you wear but that doesnt mean jeans arent allowed 😕

@ChocolateCharms

Word yaar.

I really don't understand some people who are calling him a hypocrite.

He is a MAN.

What the hell is he supposed to wear ? A women's dress ? 😆
