Sidharth Malhotra's fitness secrets

The shy and handsome Sidharth Malhotra, who played an underdog in Student Of The Year has become the numero uno female fantasy recently. He's a self-confessed fitness freak addicted to workouts. "Like my dog Oscar, I'm hyper and feel restless when I don't sweat it out. I need to do something to release all my pent up energy," he confesses. But don't get any ideas girls. He is only talking about his workout regimen, as his trainer Satish Narkar corroborates. Sidharth holds Narkar in high esteem and describes him as being anal about the counts of his exercises and body posture, "A good trainer is one who can figure out your mistakes and Satish keeps a hawk's eye on me." The duo share the secrets of what makes Sidharth Malhotra the sexiest hunk of the year.

Plus and minus

Sidharth: I tend to put on weight. It's because of the lifestyle in the industry. There is no fixed time to sleep, wake up or eat. It's difficult to maintain the metabolism.

Trainer: Sidharth has a lean and muscular body. As an actor, he needs to dance and fight, so he needs to be light on his feet. He has a history of knee injuries. So I concentrate on flexibility and foot movements while training him. I educate him about his posture. Also, grasping the exercise is more important than just doing it for the sake of it.

Role play

S: Physically, Hansee Toh Phansee was an easy role. I wasn't required to show off my bare body. I'm lean in the film so I had to decrease the muscle mass. That allowed me to have regular homemade food. But for my next, Mohit Suri's Villain, I have to have a hard physique since the role is intense. I will change my diet for the film.

T: We keep changing the regimen as it shocks the body into giving maximum results. We also do weight training depending on his role. I make sure his body is well conditioned for change. Sidharth works out three to four times a week. We change the workout program every 3-4 weeks.

Diet dilemma

S: I'm a hardcore non-vegetarian Punjabi boy. I carry homemade food on the set. I have a sweet tooth so it's difficult to refrain from sweets. But I keep it in check by eating small quantities. I eat dark chocolate, which is a healthier option and also has antioxidant qualities. I binge on low fat ice cream sometimes. I love besan ke laddoo. Another healthy replacement for unhealthy desserts is jaggery. It has good iron content. Sometimes to cheat my body, when it craves sugar, I eat fruit. I don't drink fruit juices. A glass of orange juice is made from six oranges. Also, it has no fibre and many calories. So, one must avoid combining meals with juices.
Also my roles require me to dance. So my body tends to lose essential salts. Often, I have a craving for masala chips. To balance out the junk I go for organic and steamed food. I don't drink or smoke. At parties I just nurse a glass of wine, so that I don't offend people.

T: Since we change the workout every four weeks, we also change the diet plan accordingly. I don't want Sidharth to get bored of the same food. The diet consists of a good amount of meat, chicken, fish and veggies. His meals must have enough proteins, carbohydrates and fibre. With regards supplements, he takes protein shakes on days he has shoots and can't have a proper meal. I advise him to take vitamins and have food that isn't over cooked. He doesn't binge, maybe just once a month.

Off days

S: I don't work out when I have heavy duty dance performances, be it for a film or award shows. It's stupid to push your body beyond its limits. I compensate by doing weight training at home for 10 minutes. Ever since I have started working out seriously, I have a newfound respect for Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. They are the fitness gurus of India. They built up their bodies when they didn't have any trainers or dieticians.

T: On days when he doesn't feel like working out, which is rare, we do fun, light workouts, like lifting dumbbells or light exercises with Bosu medicine ball or with stability ball. These exercises don't shoot the heart rate up. It's not always about killing yourself in the gym. I have known him for the past three years but haven't seen him fall sick, except for a slight cold or a sore throat. On such days, I ask him to eat on time and rest as it's important for the body to recover.

drinking juices are not unhealthy, but these actors don't take because they have some calories, they don't even drink water before giving a shot. one should not follow their regimes because they keep changing.
