CHAPTER 7 : FACING THE PAST.
PART 1 : CHILDHOOD JOURNEYS:
"Maa"..the beautiful voice called out, and Ichcha was enthralled! Oh, how the feeling of being a mother was! She immediately regretted the way god had taken 19 years of her precious life away from her family, yet she was happy for the fact that atleast her gudiya, kanha and ammo were with her. That was Ichcha, a lady who was happy with the least of the things and never complained about anything.
"Maa...there's so much to talk about! Anni never allowed me to contact you and so I always wrote whatever I wanted to tell you and papa in a little diary..see them maa!" said Meethi excitedly.
Ichcha was full of smiles when she opened that book..it resembled a scrapbook showing bits and pieces of important times in Meethi's life. Pictures of Meethi's first day at school, her friends, her first doll, her first bicycle, her birthday parties...and Ichcha went through all of them with a bittersweet feeling. There were small notes attached like, "maa and papa, I got the first place for singing today!" "I fought with my best friend today"...and in that way Ichcha spent almost an entire day going through Meethi's memories and trying to understand her daughter. She felt Ichcha had a lot of characteristics of Veer...her polite ways, the way she was always there for everyone...and..that's when the tears came. Veer, Veer, Veer. The name she could never ever forget. "Where is my Veer? In what condition is he now? How can he live without his Ichcha?" But then she realised that she was a stranger in Veer's mind and there was no way she could get back to him again.
Meethi sensed Ichcha's change of mood, and asked.."maa what happened?" Ichcha brushed away her tears and said, "Nothing dear, I just wish your papa was there to know you like this as well" As soon as she said those words, she immediately regretted it because she knew what Meethi's next question would be. And as predicted, Meethi said, "No one in this house speaks about papa. I haven't even seen his photo. Everyone says he is dead. Why can't they atleast tell me something about my papa? Now that you have come, please tell me about my father, maa. I want to know what exactly happened." Ichcha was momentarily stunned, she didn't know how to reply to Meethi's question. All she knew was Meethi should never know that her papa was still alive and safe because that fact would break her heart and she would misunderstand her papa. She stammered andstuttered and began.."Well..."
PART 2 : HEARTBREAK :
"Why the hell is this happening to me?" was the only thought that ran through Yuvraj SIngh Bundela's mind as he sat beside his friends and accompanied them to an orphanage. Going to the orphanage was not his problem, but the people sitting right before him was his main problem. The girl he loved was holding hands with some other guy and laughing and talking happily. Anger surged through him, he wanted to take revenge for his heartbreak, but the pain was unbearable. He wished he could run away somewhere. But Priya wanted them to get settled properly and remain good friends. How could someone be friends after loving? He thought it was a absurd thought. He got a message from the members of students budy head, asking for advise about selecting the new head. More anger surged in him as he thought about the girl who misunderstood him. "Miss Attitude, you dont deserve this post" he thought, and immediately replied "Mukta Rathore seems to be too over reactive towards situations and does not have a patient mindset to see through things properly. Such a person would never be able to take crucial decisions for the students. I personally reccomend you to assess her once more before deciding to nominate her."
As soon as the nessage was sent, the van stopped and Yuvraj got down with his friends. The orphanage was nothing like he expected. He thought it would be an old building with very few facilities. But the sight of it took his breath away. It was a beautiful cottage surrounded by a lush green garden. There was a beautiful park for the children and when he saw those happy little faces playing and having fun, for a second, he forgot all his worries and looked at them happily. He didn't realise that all his friends went inside. Instead another sight caught his eye. In between those smiling little faces, there was another face. A face that radiated happiness. A face which he felt some familiarity with. He went to the helper nearby and askedher, "Ma'am who's that lady with the kids?" The helper smiled and replied.."that's our Tapasya maa, she's the mother of all these adorable kids, and the caretaker of this orphanage." Yuvi restlessly replied, "Oh, thanks" and the helper left. At the same moment Tapasya turned and looked at Yuvi. Before he could sense the change of expression on her face, she gave him a quick smile and left to welcome and talk to Priya and his other friends.
He never knew why, but looking at this woman made him think about how his mother would have been like. He never felt like this before. All he knew that life was taking him in twisted path. He thought, "what would this meeting with a caretaker of an orphanage would result in? Lets see" and took a look at those tiny tots once again, smiled and went inside.
He never knew that this one week in this orphanage would change his outlook on life forever.
