SS: Unspoken part 6

Adi jumped with glee and went to the front of the house but Khushi turned to Arnav, looking anxious. "I don't want to go anywhere."

Arnav popped an eyebrow up. "Do you expect to live on these clothes for the rest of your life?" He pointed to her white and purple salwar kameez and she looked down at it in vain then back at Arnav with the same worry still evident in her eyes. "But everyone will look at me."

"Well you're going to have to show yourself eventually. Let's go," he directed and waited for Khushi to walk ahead of him. He did wonder why he allowed her to walk ahead - it wasn't even just allowing, it was practically welcoming her to take lead. He'd done that with no one else so why her?

Khushi hated every step she took. Any woman or man who was outside their home stared at her with gawking eyes as if she had a tail growing out of her back and horns coming out of her head.

"They're all looking at me," she said quietly over Adi, who was walking in between them, to Arnav. He didn't bother to reply in any way. She knew that very well for herself - that people were going to look - so now she would have to deal with it until people got used to her.

She frowned when he wouldn't even look at her and continued with her walk. Beyond all the cottage type houses and endless green trees and the soft green grass they were walking on, was a world she admired just looking at.

The field of crops alone was such a huge field that harbored all the green leaf vegetables. She noticed the long stems of corn in one corner, another vegetable in another and so on. She was impressed seeing the word 'pharmacy' etched on a nameplate at the top of a house reserved for it.

"Where's your school Adi?" She asked after some time of silence.

"We've already passed it. It's closer to home," he said then took a hold of Arnav's hand, or rather just a couple fingers since his tiny hand was too small to curl around Arnav's giant hand.

After hundreds of stares, and many new things that she was exposed to, Khushi walked into a sea of more glares when they reached the marketplace. Arnav pulled her and Adi to the side, shielding her with his big figure so others didn't see what he was about to do.

"I'm going to give you something and you better keep quiet because I don't want to hear that you don't accept it. Whatever I say or do, you will accept it, understood?" He asked and made sure his serious expression was there to disable her from rejecting it. He took his wallet out and placed five thousand in her hand. Khushi looked at all the money then up at Arnav with wide eyes and a half open mouth.

He brought his finger up to his lips to motion her to not say a thing. "Take Aditya with you. Keep him in your sight at all times."

"Where are you going to be?" She asked, tensed that he would actually leave her with a bunch of strangers who were already acting hostile towards her.

"I'll be keeping my distance. If I'm there, then people will look even more. Do you know what to do, Adi?" He asked when he looked down at his brother.

"Yes abba."

Khushi quickly tied the money in her dupatta and held the end in her hand. She would have to keep it that way until she got a purse or wallet - she would die on the spot from humiliation if she slid it into her useful holder called a bra.

Arnav watched as the two walked away, already going into one shop. He too started to casually walk along the shops when he saw Poonam and her mother coming out of the shop. "Namaste Arnav babu," the mother greeted and Arnav nodded his head. Poonam gave a shy 'namaste,' and he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion when the flush color wouldn't escape her cheeks. 'What the hell is she blushing for?' he wondered.

"How are your mother and brother?" The kind woman asked but he was getting irritated. He didn't like people inquiring about his family - as if they didn't know already.

"Mmhmm, they're good." He mumbled and prepared to say goodbye but the mother caught him by surprise.

"Poonam is about to finish school soon. Her father might send her to Mumbai for further studies." She stroked her daughter's hair for effect but Arnav's expression became far from soft. He knew what they were doing and it was enraging him. Throwing their daughter like that at him - he hated that to the core.

"Good for you, Poonam," he said and gave a quick bye as he left. He barged into the jewelry shop and went around the counter to sit on a chair. He was fuming when Akash stepped from the back room and chuckled. "Arre Arnav! What are you doing here?"

He began to calm down once his friend came and sat down next to him. "Khushi and Adi are here to shop."

"Khushi?" Akash asked with a teasing smile. "You're on a name basis." He stated as a fact.

"She's living in my house, Akash - I can't call her 'the girl' forever."

"Right..."

"I'll be leaving to town in a few days. It's time we upgrade on some things," Arnav said, changing the topic altogether.

"Do you want me to come?"

"No, I need at least one trusted man to watch over my family. I'll be taking Uday and a few others."

"And Vijay?"

"I don't have a choice. He's Chatur's son. I hate him so much, Akash." He kept his mouth shut when a few customers came in. He nodded in return to their hellos and then let his memories occupy his mind.

Arnav walked furiously down the distance between the council house and Chatur's house. Vijay's back was to Arnav and when he reached him, he grabbed his shoulder and turned him to look at him.

"What are you doing?"

Vijay stepped back to show his own rough and tough appearance. "Don't argue about this matter. You should be grateful I even bothered to bring the councilmen in on my personal business."

"She's a Sadasyan, Vijay!" Arnav said through clenched teeth.

"I don't care! You hate them, I don't!" He spat and Arnav stared at him with so much hurt, he was actually left dumbstruck for a moment.

"They killed my father and you don't care?" Arnav yelled because his tears would have betrayed him and spilled over if he spoke in a soft tone.

Vijay blushed red in embarrassment then shrugged his shoulders. "I care but you have to understand, she didn't kill anyone. I love her, so I'm going to marry her."

Arnav heard the voices of several men as they walked towards him but he didn't pay heed to any of their calls. "She's a Sadasyan! I don't care if she did anything, SHE'S STILL A SADASYAN!" He exploded and felt a hand hold his arm back in case of an attack. If it weren't for that hand he surely would have.

"She's marrying an Amit Sravnan so she'll become one too! Your father would have been more understanding but you - "

Arnav clamped his hand around Vijay's jaw to silence him completely. He kept his death hold there despite all the tugging at his arm. "Do not ever speak of my father. He was a man, not an animal like those people WHO KILLED HIM! If he were here, then you could have married all the Sadasyan bitches that you wanted but he's not! This place runs by me and I hate the sight of a Sadasyan so if you do this, you will forever be associated with those bas***ds."

"Let go, Arnav!" Akash said sternly next to his head and Arnav did. Vijay rubbed his jaw as he stared hard at Arnav. "I'm going to marry her no matter what you say or think."

If it wasn't for Akash to rip him out of his stance, Arnav would have been glued to his spot screaming hate towards Vijay for the rest of his life. When he turned, the first man who came up to him was Chatur. Vijay's father.

"I did this because he would never take no for an answer. Please Arnav, please forgive me." Chatur put his hands together in front of Arnav but Arnav only walked around him to go home.

The wedding happened without any music or fun - Arnav forbade it. It was as quiet as a regular day but as deadly as a war zone - other than the girl's mother and sister, not a single Sadasyan man was allowed to step foot on their land. It was a controversial wedding all around - Sadasyans had disowned Sonam and Amit Sravnans greeted her with hate. More than anything, the wedding sounded like a funeral, especially at the end of the night when the mother and sister cried their hearts out as they bid her farewell but they knew it was going to be anything but well.

Arnav let out a quiet sigh as he came out of his daze. Where he forgave Chatur some time after the wedding, Vijay and he were never on good terms again.

Seeing that Akash was busy with customers, Arnav got up and walked around the counter to leave but not before something shiny caught his eye. It was an antique gold and diamond necklace with three white pearls hanging from it. Khushi's face flashed in his mind before he shook off the crazy thought and walked out of the shop with a wave to his friend.

After an hour of walking in and out of each shop just to pass time, he finally saw Khushi and Adi. He waited for them to walk in his direction first but the ogling looks towards Khushi from a couple guys sitting at a table made Arnav clench his jaw and walk to what he considered his own, not caring who he pushed along the way.

Khushi stopped and looked at Arnav with confusion, especially because he seemed so angry. "I'm sorry, did I take long?" She asked as she held two stuffed bags in one hand and Adi's hand in her other grasp.

"Start walking," he ordered and gave one menacing look towards the guys to show that he saw what they did before he followed behind the two.

Khushi felt uncomfortable walking back. Not even because of the stares this time since surprisingly enough, she got used to it, but she was more anxious about Arnav's silence and angry looks. She knew very well than to force him into small talk so she also kept quiet.

Adi suddenly let go of Khushi's hand and went around to hold Arnav's. "Abba," he said and waited for Arnav to look down. "Didi bought me a toy car."

Arnav glanced at Khushi then nodded his head. "Good."

"She bought herself a lot of nice things," Adi said and Khushi's eyes widened but she took a sigh of relief when Arnav curtly said, "I don't care."

Adi remained silent, which hurt Arnav a lot. He picked him up and looked at him with a smile. "Have you had a good day so far?"

Adi nodded his head with his own cheeky smile. Arnav put him down as they got close to their house. Adi ran inside but Khushi stopped when they reached the porch steps and turned towards Arnav. "Thank you very much," she said with an innocent smile and held her hand out with the rest of the money towards Arnav.

Arnav looked down at the money with furrowed eyebrows then looked at Khushi and kept his eyes on hers for a moment before one side of his lips curled up and he walked inside, leaving her standing there with her hand outstretched. She bit the inside of her lip to control the grin that was playing on her lips before she followed after him.

Hey guys! Sorry last time I forgot to add how long ago the flashback was. I've edited that so when his father died was five years ago and then this flashback is from 3 years ago. It will be going back and forth, but only a bit.

I'm so grateful that you guys like this otherwise I'd have a very hard time writing this. Trying to imagine a 20th century village is kinda hard but I'm doing it for youuu. 😃 Enjoy!!
