Eight soaps in revamp mode
It seems to be makeover season for primetime
dailies. Hindi GECs have hit on a smarter
formula to revive sagging storylines of existing
soaps and giving them a longer airtime (and
better TRPs) by introducing new characters
(and turning one into a main protagonist),
sprucing up current story tracks (may be a
leap forward in time or even backward),
changing the 'look' of the show protagonists
(and even replacing stars who can't deliver
TRPs from the show altogether). After all in
the numbers game, a show is only as good as
its weekly TRPs!
F.I.R.
Revamp recipe: Kavita Kaushik lived the
role of the fiery motormouth female cop,
Chandramukhi Chautala in F.I.R . for seven
years making it very tough for her
replacement Chitrashi Rawat to fit in her
shoes. By popular demand, Kavita has been
brought back on her signature show in the
same role and the makers are hoping for a
longer shelf-life for the show.
Anamika
Revamp recipe : As the supernatural daily,
Anamika , struggles to survive in the 8 pm
slot with stronger contenders on rival
channels, to add some much needed spice,
there's a new female lead (played by Shivani
Surve). The main plot continues to be much
the same: the sexy churail (Simran Kaur) is
still trying to win the male protragonist
(Mudit Nayar).
Savitri
Revamp recipe: An ambitious costume caper
with extravagant sets, Savitri was launched
with a lot of fanfare with Riddhi Dogra and
Yash Pandit five months ago. Dipping TRPs,
meant a change of plans. The storyline's now
moved back to ancient India. Yash has made
way for a new male lead, Ashish Kapoor
who's essaying the role of a sword
brandishing warrior prince. Also joining the
cast are Shahbaaz Khan, Rishina Kandhari,
Jasvir Kaur, Utkarsha Naik.
Adaalat
Revamp recipe: Change is the only constant,
even for courtroom dramas aired on
weekends. After enjoying immense popularity
and decent TRPs in the weekend band for
two years, Adalat's added a supernatural
flavour to every episode and has been
recently renamed Khauff Ki Adalat. Actors
Prerna Vanvari and Smran Jain have been
roped in as the new assistants of the legal
eagle KD Pathak (Ronit Roy).
The Buddy Project
Revamp recipe: The action's moved from
school to college campus for The Buddy
Project. The love story of the protagonists
Keshav Desai (KD) played by Fahad Ali and
Kiya's (Bharti Kumar) continues, with (some
old and) new characters bringing in some
more dramatic twists in the tale.
Punar Vivah Ek Nayi Umeed
Revamp recipe: Punar Vivah Ek Nayi Umeed
is barely two months old, but the soap
makers seem keen on adding new twists to
the tale to ensure the TRPs head northwards.
Joining Karan V Grover, Rubina Dilaik and
Shrishty Rode in the credits is newcomer
Abhishek Malik, who is rumoured to be the
new parallel lead.
Suvreen Guggal
Revamp recipe: Suvreen Guggal - Topper Of
The Year's current plot has the female
protagonist Suvreen (Smriti Kalra) move to
Mumbai (from Delhi), and become an
assistant to a top fashion designer. Shivin
Narang, Heli Daruwala, Mohit Malik and
Simple Kaul continue to be part of the show.
Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha
Revamp recipe: Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch
Kaha Season 2 might have started off with
much promise but the TRPs have a different
story to tell. So, in a serious effort to give the
TRPs a leg-up, the show's focus will shift to
Megha (Akanksha Singh) and Mohan (Kunal
Karan Kapoor); while characters like Navika
(Jayashree Venkatramanan, Beera (Siddharth
Arora) and Addu (Kanwar Dhillon) will make
their exit from the show.
