I respect your opinion, seems like you are a fan of Mr. Ram Kapoor.
However, I disagree that Mr.Kapoor as Jai Walia is a bad choice. For me,
when Jai Walia first appeared on screen, there was no doubt, in my mind,
that the actor and the character were made for each other. It's like the
hand that fits the glove. Its the same with Bani's character, Ms. Prachi
Desai is Bani.
This is my first Indian tv serial and the only reason I am watching it is bc
of Mr. Kapoor and Ms. Desai. They have the best on screen chemistry be
it in Bollywood (besides SRK and Kajol) or in Hollywood. When watching
them together on screen, this duo reminds me of old hindi film stars, like
Waheeda Rehman and Guru Dutt.
JW is a very strong male character for the small Indian screen. In my
opinion, the biggest mistake the KS team made was to go ahead with the
Ons track, it was and still is a long and disgusting track that keeps going
on and on like the energizer bunny . In the beginning, there was some
amount of dignity in the show. However, during the Ons track, dignity
transformed into plain disgust. The fault lies in this unbelievably
nauseating track for bringing JW down, turning him into a weakling and
totally ruining his character. Fine, they needed to show the weaknesses
of JW but it could have been done in other ways.
From what is being shown, it seems like Kasam Se is a modern Indian tv
serial trying to do something different, but resorts to the same old Indian
soap formulas. Herein lies the ruination of KS and the downfall of JW 's
character. It is the use of these tried old soap formulas in KS which
produces a stagnated conflict between the modern and the old resulting
in the confusion that we the veiwers have to bear. This show's strength
lies in it being different and with it so does the strength of JW.
In acting, not only, delivery of dialogue is important but also, the
gestures that the actor uses as well. Sometimes, there is a conflict
between the dialogue and the gestures. It is a very concentrated conflict
between the gestures and the words and only an actor who understands
the craft well can deliver the job. Mr. Ram Kapoor understands this.
Thus JW becomes a human, and not just a character on screen…
Throughout, the sorry Ons track we witnessed the fraility of JW, at times
the script was clichd and poorly written, but the actor's gestures were
not. Mr. Kapoor's ingenuity as an actor was evident during this phase the
most, when he was doing the best he could with a cliched poorly written
script filled with loopholes galore. The script during the awful Ons did
not suit his character at all. But the actor delivered. This is proof enough
that we are not witnessing an ordinary actor here, but a rare one.
But now, his character has to come full circle, with the weaknesses and
the strengths, the hatred and the love and all the gamut of emotions he
has experienced since Bani came into his life. Basically, JW has been
turned inside out. He has been emotionally stripped bare. (All this was
done in the most silliest, undignified and uncharacteristic way- it insulted
JW's intelligence).
Jai Walia, is such a strong and individual character that he should not be
twisted into just another cliched version of the Indian men crying on
screen type. JW's strength lies in his modernity, his originality. The
challenge now lies in giving the actor a strong, original script to progress
his character further.
I am sure that Ms. Ekta Kapoor understands this, for she is the one who is
responsible for bringing this character to us on the small screen.
