Neena Gupta reacts to PREGNANCY rumours at 66, jokes 'this is all I need, a real life Badhaai Ho'

Veteran actor Neena Gupta has reacted to recent rumours claiming that she is pregnant at the age of 66. The speculation began circulating online after the actor attended a high profile wedding reception in Hyderabad. Videos from the event quickly went viral, leading some social media users to suggest that Gupta appeared to have a baby bump. The actor has now addressed the chatter and dismissed the claims with humour.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Gupta made it clear that the rumours had no truth. Responding to the discussion around her appearance, she joked, “This is all I need, a real-life Badhaai Ho."

She then clarified the situation more directly. “There is no Badhaai Ho. I am not pregnant. The truth is that the saree material was thick, which made me look bulky at the event," she explained. Gupta added that she found the entire speculation amusing. “But I must say, I love all this speculation about my pregnancy at my age. It shows we are evolving as a nation."

The rumours began after Gupta attended the wedding reception of actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in Hyderabad. When she arrived at the venue, she stopped to pose for photographers outside the event. Clips of the moment soon appeared across social media platforms. Some users then began suggesting that the actor looked pregnant, which triggered a wave of online reactions.

Gupta’s personal life has often been part of public conversation over the years. In the 1980s, her relationship with former West Indies cricketer Viv Richards drew significant attention. At that time, discussions around relationships outside marriage were rarely spoken about openly in India.

Despite the scrutiny, Gupta decided to continue with her pregnancy and raise her child independently. She later gave birth to her daughter, fashion designer Masaba Gupta. The actor chose to embrace single motherhood at a time when such choices often faced strong social judgement.

Over the years, Gupta balanced her acting commitments while raising her daughter largely on her own. She has since spoken about the difficulties of that phase in several interviews and in her memoir.

In 2008, Gupta married Delhi based chartered accountant Vivek Mehra. The actor has often described this phase of her life as one that brought stability after many years of navigating both personal and professional challenges.
