Actually, the biggest howler here is how the depict the relationship b/w Ravan & Vibheeshan. Vibheeshan was one of Ravan's lifelong critics, but in DkDM purana, he's about as much a bhakt of Ravan as Ravan is of Shiva. Nothing betrays the contrived aspect of this story more than this.

A few things that surprised me over the week. I enjoyed Nandi laughing @ Ravan's plane crash 🤣 but one thing just struck me as impossible. Let's assume the DkDM purana to be original & authentic. How does Nandi, who's just cursed Ravan, try and advise him on how to placate Shiva? And why would Ravan, who can't distinguish b/w bulls & vanaras (somehow, zoology doesn't seem to have been one of his subjects in his gurukul), listen to someone he considers a vanar, rather than trust his own judgement?

The chandrahaas scimitar - Shiva gave that to him unconditionally. IIRC, Ravan used it to kill Jatayu, and later, after Meghnad's death, was on the verge of going out to kill Sita w/ that weapon. So had Shiva put any conditions on its use, that weapon would very quickly have returned to him. Incidentally, anything anywhere that says that Mahadev got it back after Ravan's death?

Also, was it Shiva who named Dashanand Ravan? I thought that he had that name from the get go.

So they made Ravan a celebrity @ Kashi? It was funny watching the exchange b/w Ravan & Sumali, who he seems to enjoy pissing off 😆 (a variation on the Ramayan, where his verbal skirmishes are w/ Malyavan). But what took the cake was Vibheeshan presenting Ravan w/ a Veena flag, which Ravan then adapted as the emblem of the Rakshashas. There is a lot more love b/w these 2, according to this serial.

An evil side of me wishes that they make Vedavati & Sita real vamps 😈

Ya, I know, Vibhishan is all like, "Bhratashri, what can I do for you? Shall I press your feet? Shall I get you water? Shall I massage your head? I am itching to worship- er, serve you!"
I think Chandrahasa would have returned to Shiva (though after a complete servicing to remove Ravan's germs😆)

Yes, Lord Shiva only gave the name Ravana to Dashanana becasue of his deafening defying-laws-of-physics scream! (Defying laws of Physics, because it travelled through vacuum and reached all the lokas. either that, or the devas have secret recorders placed on earth to transmit radio waves. You choose.)

Ravan became a celebrity? I thought they just said that to chase him away! His singing was horrible!
And was Malyavan alive when ravan was there? Because I thought Vishnu killed him in the Samudra Mathana fight (they didn't show that here). At least in SB it is written so.

No, the only one that Vishnu killed was Malee. That was b4 Ravan's birth, though. Sumali & Malyavan fled, and Malyavan was there to the end. Dunno when Sumali died.

Today's episode was hilarious - Nandi would do well to leave Ravan alone, and let his prabhu & mata handle this. But the funniest scene today was Lakshmi looking concerned as Mahadev agrees to accompany Ravan. Maybe Sita could have followed that strategy - agree to accompany Ravan if he did certain impossible tasks 😈

The singing was clearly and obviously ad-libed - I doubt that either Mohit nor Tarun sing like that. But I never knew this story about Ravan doing a musical in Kashi - that one is totally new to me. Which is why I said that they're glorifying him, since none of the Ramayans ever mentioned it. Did anyone here see Zee TV's serial Ravan a few years ago, and did it get shown there?

Well, so far they have always shown the Ksheerasagar viewers able to listen to all dialogues being uttered on Prithviloka, so I guess sound does travel through a vaccuum on DKDM! 😊

One thing about Dashanand - when they showed him about to cut off his own head w/ the Chandrahaas, why did Mahadev bother to intervene? As per Brahma's boon, Ravan couldn't be killed by anyone except men or monkeys, and he was neither. So Ravan could have cut off his head/s, and nothing would have happened. So there was no need for Mahadev to pay him any attention.

More seriously, I never understood why Mahadev presented Ravan w/ the Chandrahaas sword, since it (contrary to the serial) was used in subjugating all his enemies, and killing Jatayu. Last it was heard of was him threatening to use it to kill Sita (after Indrajit's death).

That Ravana was a Phd holder in Sama Veda is a known fact, that he used to impress Shiva with his musical and vedic knowledge is a known fact, that he was a veena maestro is also a known fact, but showing him having his arangetram (debut performance) in Kashi is something new.

You're right about the Chandrahaas being granted unconditionally.

Arangetram😆
They have confused the story. Maybe they wanted to showcase Ravan's talents to the citizens of Kashi. Or maybe they didn't find any valid reason for him asking Mahadev for boon.
