Jaws dropped in disbelief when Aamna Shariff (Kahiin To Hoga) was declared the Best Actress over Sakshi Tanwar (Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii), Smriti Iraani (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) and Sarita Joshi (Ba Bahoo aur Baby) at the Indian Telly Awards 2006 in Andheri's Chitrakut ground on Friday.
But despite winning also the Best Style Icon of the Year (Female), the over-decked up lady's cup of joy didn't overflow. Reason — her boyfriend Rajeev Khandelwal had skipped the occasion, probably because he stood no chance of winning this year.
The Best Actor Award was deservingly given to Ram Kapoor (Kasamh Se) who also won the couple of the year award with his co-actor Prachi Desai. Prachi also shared the Fresh New Female Face of the Year Award with Saat Phere lead Rajashri Thakur. The other shocker was over how Mohnish Behl (Ek Ladki Anjani Si) edged out Aman Varma (Virasat) and Vikas Sethi (Kahiin To Hoga).
The star of the evening was Ekta Kapoor. The night clearly belonged to the TV czarina as she walked up thrice to bag the trophies — Hall of Fame Award (herself), Best Production House (Balaji) and Best Continuing Programme (Kyunki).
Ashwini Kalsekar rightly won the Best Actor in a Negative Role (Female) for Kasamh Se but, in her excitement, let the cat out of the bag. She attributed the award to not only her family and Balaji, but also to TV actor Murli Sharma who isn't part of Kasamh Se. There has been speculation that the two are a couple, but until now, the two haven't admitted it.
Eijaz Khan, Akashdeep Segal, Mouni Roy and Pulkit Samrat (who got the Fresh New Male Face of the Year) set the stage on fire with scintillating dances. Khan, in particular, was outstanding. He and his fiance Anita Hassanandani should make it to Nach Baliye next season.😳
Manav Gohil, Juhi Parmar, Renuka Shahane, Mona Singh, Gaurav Chopra anchored impressively.
