The next few weeks passed in a peaceful routine. They woke up, went to work together, they shared lunch and after work they went home. Some days it was Sharon's home and some Swayam's. Swayam had suggested that they move in together but Sharon still felt that it was too soon. She still felt insecure and that made Swayam furious with her ex-boyfriend. At night, they sat hugging each other in the couch watching a movie together, or they discussed about their day and their lives before they had met. Someone might have thought that their life was boring but they loved it. It helped them bond even more with each other. Swayam constantly had his hand on Sharon's belly. He had hopes of feeling his little fairy's first kick. She made fun of him because it was too soon to hear the baby kicking. Yet, he always replied the same way about his hopes making her laugh.
When the day of their second appointment with the obgyn came, they were both eager to finally hear their baby's heart. The reason they ended up going one hour earlier to their scheduled appointment. When the receptionist saw them she smiled knowingly.
"You are going to hear the baby today?"
"Yes" Swayam said sheepishly. "We are a little bit early aren't we?"
"Yes you are. But don't worry, you are lucky. There was a cancellation in our schedule so the doctor can see you now."
They practically ran to his office. The doctor greeted them.
"How are you feeling, Sharon?"
"I am good, doctor."
He left the room so that she would get undressed. A few minutes later, she was ready on the special chair, with Swayam holding her hand tightly. The doctor came in, and started ultrasound. A couple of seconds later, they heard a weird sound, it was very quick thump-ing sound. Swayam didn't know what it was and looked expectantly at the doctor for some explanation, because Sharon was already squeezing the life of his hand.
"Do you hear that?" the doctor asked them.
"Yes!" they both said.
"That is the heartbeat of your baby. It is a very strong heartbeat. Congratulations!"
Swayam squeezed Sharon's hand back but did not look at her. Both their eyes were glued to the screen in front of them, where a little bean appeared.
"And, this little bean you see on the monitor is your baby." Still they did not say anything. They kept looking at the monitor. The doctor laughed and commented on their reaction.
"Well I am glad some things stay the same. You have the exact same reaction you had when you first saw your previous baby, I am just glad you have someone to share the moment with. And from what I see he is worse than you" he laughed again.
Swayam woke up at that point from his trans-like state.
"I am sorry, doc. It is just that, I did not expect it to be like that. It is amazing. That is my little fairy." A single tear dropped from his eye. He bent down and kissed Sharon who still had her eyes locked on the monitor screen. She had not uttered a thing but her eyes were running freely. She turned looked at him and choked out a simple fact.
"Our little fairy!"
"Come on now, Sharon. I know this is a very emotional period for you, especially with the hormonal imbalance you are experiencing now, but please try to calm yourself. Stressing yourself is not good for your baby."
Sharon hugged Swayam closer, placed her head to his heart and slowly calmed herself and stopped crying.
"I am sorry doctor, it is just that after my previous miscarriage I had given hope of having a baby again and to see one inside me so soon, it just seems like a miracle."
"Aaah! Why would you think of something like that? I assured you that you would be able to get pregnant again. Your accident was not grave enough to cause permanent damage."
Sharon did not say anything but Swayam knew the real reason she thought she would never have a baby. She was deeply disappointed not only by her ex but from all the men in her life, except her father of course, and she had decided to stay away from them and not let someone else hurt her that deep and cost her the most valuable thing she ever had, her baby. He cursed internally her ex once again and prayed he never got to meet him. It would be a shame to spend the rest of his life in jail for killing him, instead of being with his family and seeing his fairy grow up. He held her hand tightly wishing he could take away all the pain she had ever felt.
"OK, from what I see everything seems fine with the baby and the mother, so keep the same routine and I will see you again in a few weeks. If you have any problems call me at any time."
"Thank you doc, and I am sorry for my emotional breakdown"
"Hey hey now, don't worry about it, just try to keep yourself calm." The doctor said and left them. Sharon got dressed and left the doctor's office with Swayam holding her close in his embrace. They did not say much but they didn't need to. It was a comfortable silence. They were happy. They saw their baby for the first time that was what they could think of.
When they got home, Swayam ordered some dinner for them and made her sit down.
"Sharon! We need to talk." he said.
The second these words left his mouth her nerves sky rocketed. He was going to break up with her. All her fears would materialize. Her face paled and sweat started dripping from her forehead.
"Sweet fairy! what is it? Are you in pain? What is it? Why did you get pale all of the sudden?"
"What do you want to talk about?"
"You silly thing is that why you paled? It is not a bad thing that I want to talk you about."
"You are not going to break up with me?" She said trembling
"How many times do I have to tell you that I love you more than life itself, for it to sink in your silly head? Of course I don't want us to break up. For God's sake, I have already proposed you, why would you think of something so absurd????? On the contrary, I want us to get married before our little fairy is born. Don't answer right now; I want you to think about it first. AND... I want us to go to your home town this weekend to meet your parents."
"Isn't it a little bit early for that? I mean I haven't told them I am pregnant yet."
"That is exactly why I want to meet them. I don't want them worrying that you are all alone in all this. If they meet me before they learn about your pregnancy, they will sleep more peacefully at night knowing that I am always next to you, protecting you."
"I hate it when you present everything so rationally."
"Come on you know this is the best solution. Unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Unless you fear that they won't like me." Sharon could not help but laugh at that.
"Ya! Like there are a lot of people that meet you and don't like you instantly. I know they will love you, it is just that I have never brought a boyfriend back home."
"What do you mean be that? Did not your ex come to meet your parents when you found out you were pregnant?"
"No they never met him, not even after the accident. Considering the compromising position, I found him before the accident, he never came to the hospital. What I saw terminated our relationship automatically and the next time I faced him was at the office when I returned to patch up things before leaving for good."
"You have got to be kidding me!"
"No. And I am actually glad he did not come to see me. That would have upset me even more."
"I cannot believe that there are men like that out there. It is official any guy that wants to date our little fairy, will have to go through a thorough inspection from us first." Sharon smiled lovingly at him.
"Sweetie! I am not sure she will agree with that"
"It is non negotiable." He said sternly.
"Well, we don't have to worry about it yet, so there is no reason to stress about it yet." Sharon placed a reassuring hand over his.
"I love you. I love you both. I will never let anyone hurt you. And this weekend we are going to your parents. It is time they know you met a decent man. I am sure they will feel relieved."
"You are so full of yourself, you know?"
"I love you! And they will see that. That is what makes me perfect for you." He told her and reached for her. He pulled her on his lap and started kissing her. They ended up trying some new positions after all. The good doctor obviously opened the Pandora box of sex for them when he suggested that they try new things to see what is more convenient for Sharon. And, for that Swayam intended to send him a thank you note accompanied with a big gift.
When they were finished and exhausted on the couch, gloriously naked, Swayam noticed his message machine flashing with some new phone messages. He pressed play and they both heard three angry phone messages from the delivery guy that had brought their food and had obviously spent a lot of time ringing their bell without any answer. They both laughed a lot because they hadn't heard a thing in the throes of passion!
Swayam called back and apologised to him making up a story about some disaster that had occurred to them and they could not answer the door. He doubted the delivery boy believed any of his excuses and that was why he tipped him really good when he brought back their food.
"Honey!" Sharon told him when brought the food to her.
"Yes fairy?"
"Next time you want to convince someone you just had a huge disaster in your house, try to tone down the sexually satisfied look from your face." she smirked at him, still he had the decency to laugh.
"It is your entire fault. I am just an innocent and helpless male at your mercy"
"Ya right."
"You better believe it!!!!!!"
