I am extremely sorry in advance if this post comes off as insensitive or ignorant (though I don't find it to be either)

Yash Chopra's demise was an extremely sad one.
And one thing I noticed it is, that feels as if his departure is one of the first major losses felt by people who have grown up in the 90s...

Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor, all legendary, but they ruled in years that we would probably call the yesteryears.

Does anyone agree that this is the first major void created in the mind of every kid who's grown up in the 90s, being born along with the DDLJ/DTPH/Lamhe/ the likes?

I do see your point and agree with you.

Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor = I love their films but I was introduced to them by my parents and elder relatives/friends who were of that generation. Yash Chopra films, I grew up with. When the above three legendary actors passed away, I felt very sad, but there was a detachment still there for those whom I have never met. With Yash Chopra...it feels like I've lost something precious. It's a very strange feeling and yes, void is absolutely the correct word for it. The world has sort of changed overnight, and even though his death won't personally affect me in my day to day life...there is a sense of loss that has come with this that I've never really felt for others before.

P.S no offence intended to anyone else.

I agree with you...Yash Chopra's is the first loss I felt the most from Bollywood. Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor ruled before us and were already retired before we were born. Yash Chopra was pretty active with filmaking over the last two decades and hence was very much present in the minds of the 90s generation.

PS: Taking nothing away from the yesteryears actors

i agree i agree

this is the first time i feel like some one i know has passed away because his movies define my childhood, those songs especially of DTPH remind me of the time i used to come back from school and put this movie on my VCR (which was really famous at that time as dvds were not common) everything about his movies make me feel good, make me miss my childhood and i feel good thinking about them. He is the first person whose passing away actually made my eyes wet with tears. I am not very sensitive as a person and never take seriously much happening in showbiz but this has totally moved me!

I agree. Shammi Kapoor I didn't feel as much even though I'm a huge fan whereas because Yash ji's films were a major influence in my life.

i have been upset since yesterday. idk why but i guess his movies touched me in a way that without knowing Yashji, i feel his loss. Still kind of numb minded. Nothing feels good right now. I was jus want to cuddle on the sofa and watch a marathon of all his movies.

Being born in early 90s I have pretty much grown up watching and loving movies like darr, veer zaara, DTPH so on and so forth... I love the srk-yash chopra film pairing as they made movies that I can never get tired of watching no matter how many times I watch them...
There is truly a void left behind after his demise which I have never felt for anyone else before 😭

I understand where you're coming from and I agree :)
All the legends you mentioned have contributed immensely to cinema (I won't say Indian cinema because a performer is not bound by geography or language) I do have a soft spot for Rajesh Khanna because I'm a huge Kishore Da fan and most of his best songs were picturised on him.

But with Yash Chopra's departure I do feel more upset because I grew up watching his films and his work will always remind me of my childhood days. I would stand infront of the mirror as a kid and dance to Sridevi's Morni Baaga Ma Bole...and sometimes sit in a sombre mood and hum, Lagi Aaj Saawan Ki Phir Woh Jhadi Hai :) Those are memories that I'll hold on to for the rest of my life.

All I can say is, thank you - Yash Ji. Rest in peace Sir :)

I know, Darr was really different and BW have changed.
Then DDLJ redefined bollywood love in such a natural way with connecting it in to NRI's. The film which changed 90's youth and definition of love..
Romance which was taught through YC's films- never rush in to love, every one will have a soulmate and its not about just sex.(
I agree with u.the greatest lost to 90's generation. That may be the reason, how youth felt this much sadness over YC's death
