The long-awaited biopic about Madhubala, a celebrated icon of Indian cinema, remains in development. Recent reports indicated Kiara Advani was cast in the lead, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali producing. Despite this, an industry source has since dismissed the casting news, leaving fans to await further official announcements.
Is Kiara a part of Madhubala’s biopic?
Speaking with HT, an industry source firmly denied the current rumors regarding the Madhubala biopic. There is absolutely no truth to the reports currently circulating about Kiara Advani being cast in a Madhubala biopic produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The claims are completely baseless and speculative, the source clarified.
While specifics are undisclosed, Jasmeet K. Reen is reportedly directing the film. Reen's directorial debut was the black comedy "Darlings," featuring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Varma.
Kiara’s work front
In terms of recent work, Kiara appeared in War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, which is part of the YRF Spy Universe, following Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. The film featured Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR alongside Kiara, with Ashutosh Rana also in the cast. Critics gave the film mixed to negative reviews, citing issues with the writing and visual effects, leading to underperformance at the box office. Upcoming, Kiara is set to star in Toxic: A FairyTale for GrownUps.
Madhubala’s career
Madhubala started her acting journey as a child artist at eight years old. She debuted as a leading lady in 1947 at age 14 with Neel Kamal, a successful film that led to more projects.
Madhubala's career flourished with hits like Mr. & Mrs. '55, Raj Hath, Kala Pani, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, and Howrah Bridge. By her early twenties, she was one of India's highest-paid actors. Her career reached a pinnacle with the 1960 release of Mughal-e-Azam, her most successful film.
Despite her success, Madhubala's health was declining due to a congenital heart defect. This led her to reduce her workload, accepting roles with limited screen time. She continued to star in successful films like Jhumroo, Boy Friend, and Half Ticket. Her final film, Sharabi, was released in 1964. She passed away in 1969 at the age of 36.
