For seema aka segad's 75 year old mum who I understand is a fan🤗
Part Nine.
Arnav's eyes fell on Khushi. She lay curled up on the floor in a foetal position, her knees curled against her chest, tears streaming down her face. She was shaking. Her eyes stared into the distance.
He ran to her.
Khushi, Khushi!! Are you ok??? He pulled her up into a seating position. She was shaking.
What the hell?? What wrong with her??
Khushiii. He yelled again as her tried shaking back into reality. She didn't respond.
Oh Shit.
The contents of the PI's report came racing back to his mind.
Subject suffers from acute Achluophobia (fear of dark) and claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) as a result of vehicular accident related trauma.
She was in shock, realised Arnav as he began to rub her icy cold hands as if to infuse some heat into them. No response.
Great.
He gathered her into his arms and scooped her up, cradling her against his chest. Arnav walked to the elevator. He was amazed at how light and delicate she was.
Getting out on the executive floor, he raced to his office. She was still out of it.
He placed her seated upright on the couch which sat in the meeting area of his office and crouched down on his knees in front of her. His hands on her shoulders as he gently shook her.
'Khushi, Khushi...can you hear me? It's ok, you're safe. Can you please say something?'
Arnav had seen this once before. His di. When their parents died.
He tried again.
'Khushi, look at me. Look everything is ok, you dont have anything to be afraid of...Khushi?'
He stared into her big brown tear stained eyes and saw something flicker there. Shit, she was genuinely scared, thought Arnav.
Khushi felt like she was trapped again. But this time it was in her own body. All she wanted was for it to go away. She heard a calm voice call to her through the haze of panic.
The Rakshas. He was crouching in front of her. She gasped. He had rescued her.
He was still speaking to her... Look everything is ok, you don't have anything to be afraid of...Khushi...?'
She launched herself into him and put her arms around him.
Arnav didnt quite know what to do. She was trembling like a leaf. Maybe she's cold he thought and wrapped his arms around her.
Instinctively, she felt his arms go around her. He was so much bigger than her that she felt like she was beginning enveloped in a warm muscular blanket. She snuggled even deeper as her head fit perfectly beneath his chin.
Hmmm...she wasn't shaking as much thought Arnav. She must be warming up.
The haze and fear began to clear from Khushi's mind as she realised that she was ok. The car accident wasn't happening again. She was safe.
Then it struck her. She was in the Rakshas's arms. She gasped.
Arnav felt Khushi stiffen in his arms.
Khushi pulled back. Her eyes wide open. She wore a perfect rabbit caught in the head lights expression, thought Arnav.
He asked softly 'Khushi are you ok?'
His voice startled her and she jumped back on the couch. Her hands wringing in her lap.
'Ah..ummm.. Yes Arnav-ji, I'm fine. Umm I must have...I don't know what happened' she mumbled.
But I do thought Arnav.
'It's ok Khushi...sit there.' He stood up and walked to his desk and filled a glass full of water and brought it to her.
'Here, drink this' he offered.
Khushi hands trembled as she tried to get hold of the glass.
'Let me hold that for you...' he brought the glass to her lips and held the back of her head for support. She jumped.
His touch. On the back of her neck. It sent a million little shock waves racing down her spine.
He moved the glass back and asked 'Khushi, kya hua - tum theek ho?'
Devi Maiya! what was happening to her??
'Uhh..Haan Arnav-ji, nahi...I mean...Haan hum theek hai' she babbled as she tried to stand up. But he was too close to her. She could smell his scent. Distinctive like him.
Arnav stood up just as she did and grasped the top of her arms as she swayed unsteadily on her feet.
'Khushi, maybe you should stay seated for bit?'
His hand radiated heat through the tops of her sleeves. Devi Maiya, she needed to break this contact.
Her gaze fell on the clock on the wall behind his head.
8:35pm.
Hai Devi Maiya!! RR-ji must be waiting for her online. She was late she realised in dismay. He wasn't going to be happy. Khushi jumped back.
Then another thought struck her.
How was she going to chat with RR-ji while Rakshas was still around??
Devi Maiya...maadat!!
Arnav watch Khushi fidgeting. What was wrong with her??
'Uhh Arnav-ji hum theek hain, I'll just go back to my desk. I still have so much work to do,' she said as she stepped to the side and began walking away from him.
Arnav watched Khushi intently as she babbled and began walking away. Looks like normal Khushi was back. He stood at watched as she navigated her way back to her desk.
Arnav heard a chime emanate from his computer. Must be yet another email from Aman he thought as he walked to his desk.
It was his calendar reminder. It was time for his chat with Ms Khushi Kumari Gupta.
Arnav looked up. She was at her desk typing furiously on her keyboard. Arnav's eyebrows rose as he thought 'No wonder she was in a rush. She had remembered the appointment'.
Arnav sat down on his chair, loosened his tie, opened the top button of his shirt and rolled up his sleeves.
He looked at her through the glass partition and smiled. It was time to have a chat Miss Khushi Kumari Gupta.
The devil rubbed his hands together in glee, while the Angel whispered a prayer for Khushi.
