Not just Indians but most people in the world would see most of Brahma's actions, and the consequences those actions have on his family, as wrong. It is important not to deny that this kind of thing happens, even though there might not be one specific real man who did specifically everything Brahma did. The show is trying to demonstrate that Brahma is a villain, and that people like him can get away with so much if no one stands up to them. Rather than promoting Brahma's crimes or any non-traditional values, I consider that this show is promoting the idea that people should stand up for justice rather than suffering unreasonable shame. In my opinion, that is the nayi soch. Of course traditional values are important, but society (and not just Indian society) has a way of allowing men like Brahma to get away with their badmashi, while girls like Priya might be blamed for being "available" for assault, wives like Devyani blamed for "not keeping their husbands happy," women like Uttara for being "characterless" without recognizing the influence and brute power a manipulative man can have over a woman, sons like Gaurav and Karan for being "abnormal." This show confronts these attitudes that can cause so much pain and problem in individuals' lives, often for no better reason than that society would rather blame victims than reform aggressors.

Also please note that Priya was not yet Brahma's daughter-in-law when he assaulted her. At the time, he was a man in a position of authority trying to take advantage of a young, attractive, vulnerable woman. This happens all the time. Most people can understand that it's wrong, but still many will not speak against it. This show is challenging people's attitudes and encouraging them to address the wrongs that occur in life.

It is not a serial about a depraved father-in-law. It's a serial about how the women in his family have to deal with such a man. By showing Devyani coming out of her scared subservience to Brahma, the serial is demonstrating what can happen when a woman gathers the courage to break away from a ruined life. It is also showing how difficult that is, and that in the end, there is no truly happy ending. Whatever happens, all of Brahma's crimes will still have happened, and he will have had a negative impact on so many lives. If the show can spread the message that people like Brahma should not be tolerated, then at least we can have hope for a better future.

Nicely written 👏

All I wan't to ask those people who say it's not natural or against same sex love, what if your kid says that he/she is gay. will you disown them for being different? or supporting them for what they are?

You know, you're very lucky that you have a parent that accepts you for who you are. It's very nice to hear this. Not everybody has a parent like your mom. There are so many parents who either silence or disown their children after finding out that they are gay for the fear of what society will say about their family.

I think you raise a good question, something the show has brought up too (during a very effective scene when Devyani asks Roshni Devi, what is important to you, your son or this society?) What makes it very difficult is all the ignorance and myths surrounding the issue of homosexuality. So many people I know think it's a mental disease. This is why it's very important to educate people on this issue, and this show must be applauded for attempting the same.

I agree that only people who are gay or who have a friend or a loved one who is gay will truly understand the difficulty, the complexity and the emotions involved. But, what is so disturbing when I see all these antigay statements is the alienating behavior and a total lack of empathy and humanity that they show!

I really appreciate your mom😊

at bold:my question exactly.

at topic maker : This show is a mirror to those wild beasts who rape their own daughters, nieces(most common),minors. This show has shown the life of a homosexual person in such a beautiful way in a country with a timid approach.
I pity your ignorance.

I know people watch this serial so im sorry if you are hurt by my views so dont say i didnt apoligise to start of with!! Im sorry but this serial is disgusting! 😡It is a serial about a father in law raping his daughter in law and the father in law having affairs!! 😲 😡Then after his son turning out to be gay! 😲What is this??? So whats the message go rape your daughter in law and have affairs!!! Firstly this is all seen as very wrong in India so why promote it also I am not bothered about that guy being gay as everyone is different but atleast show how he overcame it!! This is definatly not nayi soch unless they want rape and homosexuality to increase in india!!
😡😡😡
I am sorry once again if you are hurt with my opinion but everyone has freedom to express their views!! Share your views with me if you want 😊😊
If it is pointless to you why make a point of it here on this forum? But if you are reading all the replies, we hope you learn something and in the end become a better educated person with some insight into the anomalies of this thing called life.

This ignorance is everywhere, even here in US, where although things have progressed well in the last decade, a large fraction of people still carry antigay attitudes. Until recently, there was no primetime US TV show (other than W&G), with gay characters as leads, so I was quite amazed to see an Indian TV show with Gaurav and Karan's story as a lead track of this show the 6 months it lasted and now to see it's ending so abruptly, it's very disappointing!
